Using a good synthetic oil like Amsoil, what OCI is being used? I have been using 5k on my XT. I would not think then 1125 is hard on oil due to water cooling. The tranny and clutch in the oil my be an spoiler..

What are the thoughts out there?

I have done 12 oil changes at 1,000 mile intervals with Red Line and Amsoil. The last 6,000 miles have been Amsoil at 2,000 mile intervals. I replace the 2 drain plug crush gaskets, filter, and O-ring with each oil change. The 09cr manual asks for 2.7 quarts, I put in about 3.3 quarts with no evidence of oil puking into the throttle bodies.

Amsoil i believe says 25k miles/ 1year...i know someone who rides VERY HARD all the time and thats what he does and gets his oil tested each time and it is fine every time. He has a Blackbird 1100XX

I have a jar of Amsoil with 5k miles on it from my Uly just waiting to be sent to Blackstone for analysis. I'll post the results.

My thinking (purely anectdotal) is 3k for cheap full synthetic (i.e. Castrol) and 5k for good full synthetic (Mobil 1 Motorcycle or Amsoil).

I use AMSOIL (mainly because it is awesome and I'm a dealer) and regularly change around 3000, but do not fret if I go over a bit. Shifting seems a bit smoother if I stay around that interval

Between 3K and 5K seem reasonable. 1K and 2K seems like overkill to me for street riding with 50% highway. I have always used Redline MC and just switched to Amsoil due to their sponsorship of EBR. Seems ok in the 1125R but I have seen oil foaming in my 08XT. Not sure why, but I've not seen it with the Redline or Mobil 1 VT.

Reepicheep - I would certainly be interested in the UOA information.

Dannybuell - I have to use 3.2 to 3.3 quarts to get correct oil indication as well. I haven't seen any oil puking yet.

I'll send it out this weekend. I ran a 5k interval once, I won't run it again unless the Blackstone analysis comes back positive (meaning its good oil).

It will likely come back negative in terms of being full of silver, meaning I am slowly eating my crank bearing... : ( Num num num num num...

Amsoil 20/50, 6200 miles, filter and oil get changed. No engine related problems as of yet, pretty close to 30k miles now.

Edit; no signs of oil usage either.

I do all my bikes in the fall, every two years. Since I've got five bikes to split my riding among, I usually end up with about 4K on the oil when it's changed. Amsoil 10W40 currently, was previous using Mobil1 15W50 until I found out that it sheared down to a 30wt within a couple thousand miles.

I've never pulled the screen--I keep forgetting since I don't recall seeing it in the manual. Hopefully I'll remember it next time.
