Kimberlie: How on earth could the repair bill be $9455.25. All that appeared to be damaged was the shifter, controls, foot pegs, and perhaps the pipe. What gives? FunJimmy | ||

Kim, Fight the ticket, you can win this one. If the posted speed is 40 MPH, the Trooper, Sheriff or police office just can't change it to 35 MPH and then write you a ticket for going 40 MPH. There are a whole bunch of lawyers up here in SW Washington that you can use to fight and win and you won't even have to apear in court. I got a ticket last year, a county mounty said that he had paced me for over 5 miles doing 70+ miles an hour. Keep in mind, I went through two major construction area's and a school zone within these 5 miles with many cars in front of me and never once seen this guy behind me (I think he just didn't like the sound of the Buell). The ticket was 500.00 bucks. I paid the lawyer 150.00 and three months later and week after the court date I got a letter saying dismissed. You can even fight this one yourself. If the posted speed limit is 40 mph and he wrote you a ticket for 40 mph, you were not breaking any laws. Give em hell Kim and fight it, odds are on your side! Jim | ||

I'll take the other side on this one. Pay the damn ticket and be done with it. It's only $101 and if you value your time at all it's just not worth the fight. Especially if it's a deferred sort of thing. What are you really after here? How much money can you really save by spending hours and hours and dollars and dollars fighting the ticket? If you only get a ticket every five years of so, one ticket won't jack your insurance very much. It just ain't worth it. Write the check and move on. Kim, get a price from the insurance company to buy back Sweet Pea. She really did not look trashed. Even if you don't want her, you could collect their check, and sell Sweet Pea to somebody who would put her back in service or even part her out for more than the cost to buy her from the ins company. | ||

Ticket: I don't plan on fighting it, being right isn't always what is important, I have never had a speeding ticket, so I am not worried about my insurance rates, to retain a lawyer is costly, the lady that Mike has used was $300 and there are never any guarantees. Besides I already called her and she said she won't drive down to Skamania county and she is the one who told me to just do the deferral. I never drive in WA so I am not worried about getting a ticket over the next 12 months. Bike: well the insurance company came back with a price of $4295. I laughed and told the guy when he was serious to let me know. Regarding the estimate to repair Sweet Pea - it was to put the bike back to the pre-existing condition with not a single scratch - that is why we have full coverage insurance. The body shop gave my bike a pre damage value of $7800 assuming it was clean - which it was. I was looking in cycle trader and a 2000 S3 is going for anywhere from low $4000 to high $6999. The one for $6999 was at Cycle Barn in Lynnwood WA it did not appear to have polished rims - not sure how much value that would bring, but I told the insurance guy it was worth something..... You know when I dropped Mike's bike on me last summer while at a dead stop - the bike did not slide on the ground at all, there was a few scratches on the engine case cover, one mirror, turn signal, brake lever, two foot pegs (underside) and the side plastic piece and it came to $1000. It adds up and that did not include any labor. I'll keep you posted, he said he would call me tomorrow early morning. We will see what full price value they give me and then also he said I will have an option to buy it back. I think that is kinda like what Shotgun did? Not sure. For all of you who shared my hope last Saturday at SPLASH when I found out my mother-in-law had awakened after being "asleep" for 7 days following her brain aneurism surgery, I thank you. Unfortunately, she passed away peacefully this morning. Mary and I are headed to Minnesota tomorrow. She was 89. She had a living will that said she did not want to live on life-support. Her prognosis was 24-hour nursing home care, no use of her left side, no ability to feed herself or to even contribute to her own care, no chance of being able to read, to watch tv, to sew, to shop, etc, all the things she lived for. If you haven't made a will, do so. If you haven't done a living will, do so. It makes the decisions your family may some day have to make, much easier. Rest peacefully, Gladys, my favorite (and only) mother-in-law. | ||

I hear the weather at home is hot! Down here in Fresno yesterday the truck registered 109! To freakin hot for me. Tomorrow morning we are headed to the coast where it a lot cooler. I washed the Harley this morning, got all the SPLASH bugs off, so will spend the next few days riding hi-way 1 and collecting some Cali bugs to bring home. Deb! Down here they have a Sketchers Shoe Outlet Store. Nicole and I went there yesterday and what a mistake that was! Got some new riding boots for $25. Loni | ||

Twenty Bonus Points to the first person to properly diagnose the problem. I ride a '02 Triumph Sprint RS with 22,000 miles on the clock. It's very well taken care of and has had no problems to this point. After work on Friday I started the bike as usual and rode less than a mile to a gas station. I filled up the tank, stuck the key in the hole, turned it on, pulled in the clutch, and the bike started to crank over and then fired up. I didn't push the starter button, it started on it's own. I didn't believe what I just saw so I turned it off and repeated the drill. Each time, the bike started without touching the starter button, just a pull on the clutch. I had brake lights and turn signals but no headlights. I think I had tail lights but I'm not 100% sure, and all the fuses were good. At that point I was 10 miles from home, I didn't know if the bike was safe to ride, and I didn't have a clue what the problem was or what to do about it. What would you have done and how would you have fixed the problem?
