I was taking my 1125R out for a major road trip this month and she died on day 1. I was on the road for about 6 hours when I saw the voltage drop from mid-13's to sub-9 & engine shut-off. The longest trips before this were about 3 hours long. I've seen the CEL & Battery lights just a couple times before; always in stop and go traffic in the city, but once I get to the open road they go away.
Today things were going great and then out of nowhere the volts slowly dropped until the bike shut down. I did just install a GPS to the accessory outlet, but I pulled that when I noticed the voltage starting to go down.
I'm pretty sure the bike had the voltage regulator update performed at the dealer before I bought it; I'll find out tomorrow at the dealer.
Bike is low mileage...under 3k miles, just purchased it last fall from a dealer that was holding on to a couple.

Anyways, the bike is parked at Gateway HD in St. Louis waiting for their shop to open tomorrow am.

Based on what I've read here, it sounds like the stator has died, but I'm open to speculation...just really disappointed in the bike.

Right. When the voltage indication drops and you get the CEL & battery lights, that usually means a failed stator.

If its an 09 it sounds like the stator to me and from what I have seen. I am not sure if you have the harness upgrade or if it really helps. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Keep your head up. If I were you and always taking long trips I would look into a more permanent solution. Either 08 parts or maybe try the new custom rewind others have recieved. Good luck.

Try without the harness if you have it.

Thats sucks, try a custom rewind and a compufire VR and hopefully it should help with your problems. Good luck.

It was the Stator! Thankfully, Gateway HD had one on hand, so I'm back on the road.

Big thanks to Gateway!

Did they replace it with '09 stator?

My dealer says that "HD Tech Services" won't allow them to use an'08 stator on an '09 bike under warranty. That being said, there are cases where that has happened I hear.

I am 99% sure that I got an '09 stator, but I didn't ask for anything different. Since I was stranded between stops on a road trip, I was just happy to be able to get back on the road with only one day lost.
Once I get home I'll be looking to upgrade the voltage regulator (or just disconnecting it).

You can disconnect the harness "upgrade" but don't disconnect the R/R(Rectifier/Regulator) or you won't get far.
