I want something that is going to last longer than 3000 to 5000 miles. I like to get out and go on longer rides, and its not like I need to be out dragging knees wile doing it. I’m not real aggressive while riding but I do like the twenties and straight line speed. I have found some Michelin Pilot Power 2CT Dual Compound Tires for $220.00 a set. http://www.compacc.com/p/Michelin-Pilot-Power-2CT- Dual-Compound-Tires-Z-Rated-Package-Specials Has anyone used these? I love the Pilot Road 2CT's that I run on my S2 - a little more treadlife than the power's, more of a sport-touring tire...but still a ton of grip in 'em, even in pouring rain. I have a feeling all my bikes (except my Uly) will be wearing them soon enough. The Uly, though, keeps it's D616 shoes for dirtwork  | ||

+1 on the Pilot Road 2s. I've got one on the rear of my 1125. I will put one on the front as soon as the Corsa 3 is worn out. I was going to put a Power on the front but I've since ridden a bike with PR2s on front and rear. I was extremely impressed with the grip. | ||

The 2CTs are great tires but are I doubt you'll get much more than 3000-4000 miles out of them. Considering that the Corsa IIIs go away in 2500 miles or so with a moderately aggressive rider, and the 2CTs are probably pretty comparable in rubber softness, you will probably experience similar tire life. I know you said you weren't dragging knees, but for others reading this thread who have the roads and inclination to do so, I can whole-heartedly recommend the Dunlop Q2, another dual-compound tire. I doubt they'll last more than 3,000 miles but I've thrashed my first set pretty well including 1K miles in the mountains and another 600 miles on FL roads (straight and hot) and the wear is surprisingly little so far. They're currently $264 a set at Cycle Gear, before the coupon discounts you usually get in the mail from them. I got them on sale in Spring at Cycle Gear for $200 A SET during a crazy promotion! Well, I don't have a PR2 on the front yet but I can tell you that my CR was dead stable at 148 mph - GPS verified. 34 front (C3), 36 rear (PR2). On a closed course, of course. | ||

+1000 on Pilot Road 2CT's, i am a VERY aggressive rider, usually dont see below triple digits that often, and i have NO chicken strips ( ) and somehow i manage to get about 10,000 miles out of my rear PR2 and about 13-14k out of my front PR2...im gonna stick with them for as long as they make them...in all honesty i didnt notice any changes in grip between the corsa3's and the PR2's....just about 2.5 times the tread life. yes i know it sounds very squid like, but in AZ the drivers just dont watch, so i stay in front of them instead of being around them even if that means speeding, and i do this on roads (freeways only) that i know (which i am usually on) i dont do nearly as fast on unfamiliar roads. and i cruise at 100mph usually, and when the bikes only spinnin 6k its comfortable. Also you know how easy it is do these speeds, you can barley pass a car on the freeway without doing triple digits. I was just being honest, i can guarantee that MOST of us badwebbers speed whether we admit it or not is our choice. I was just trying to highlight the durability of the tires not "brag" about my stupidity. That is all Jake | ||

Jake, I won't rag on you for speeding. Lord knows I've had my fair share of tickets. But, I'll say this: You aren't that aggressive of a rider getting 10k out of a tire, and you are doing mostly if not totally highway. I'm not surprised you didn't notice much change in the grip between the PR2 and the DCIII getting that kind of mileage out of the tire. | ||

yay thats very true Jdugger, ive only been riding for 2 years know. as far as my buddies are concerned (stunters) im really aggressive (cause im more into the "racing" aspect and actually using the bike for what it was designed for and not wheelies and stuff lol) and i will sadly admit that it is mostly highway becuase as of now im workin 2 jobs and 7 days a week and after summer ill be a full-time student again with a job (hopefully) so i dont have time to go out on real rides like id like to  . Another thing is that i REALLY wanna take an advanced riding course and/or track day because i KNOW im am no where near the skill level that i could be at....one day Also with the same riding i only got about 3-3500 miles outta my DC3's Jake | ||

Jake, There are several tracks not far from you, and I'd encourage you to look into options there. Even if it's just an ordinary track day operator, most offer some basic instruction in the novice groups. There's really nothing else that will "bring you up" as quickly. And, it's just plain *shocking* how much speed some guys can carry. If you have not been on a track before, I think you are in for a big surprise. | ||

> I cant even drag a knee...yet :/ Don't put too much stock in this, btw. Whether or not you drag is as much a function of your bike and your own body shape as anything. I've seen some pretty horrific body position and riding techniques come to bear from guys convinced dragging their parts around the track is the way to go. Just plain dumb stuff like hanging one's butt way off the seat with squared up shoulders just to drag a knee. Stupid. And slow. There's lots of guys at my home track that go through knee pucks like tires I can ride circles around. I've never exhausted a knee puck -- I barely ever drag. Actually, I hate the sensation so much, when I feel a touch I generally bring my knee in a bit and know there's just a titch more lean available until I drag my toe/peg. What matters is skills, safety, lap times, fun and improvement. Focus on those. One day you will touch -- just remember the knee thing is a feeler gauge, not street credit. | ||

There were guys that I passed easily on my last street ride who were obviously leaning way too far off their bike for their corner speed (slow!). It's like they would rather scrap up the knee pucks for the buddies, then ride quicker and safer the RIGHT way. It was actually funny cause they would almost park it in the corners, stick their ass and knee out as FAAAAR as it would go and keep the upper body in line with the bike. I like to think my skills are developing and as such I find myself actually using less of the tire then in previous years because my body positioning is allowing for less lean angle for a given corner. Yes, I could use that extra lean angle for more speed in the corners, but I like the little safety cushion and I am on the street after all. | ||

Thats very true. and i know that is a feeler gauge, but in the same hand i would like to know that i can. However i have dragged my pegs quite often (i know surprising due to 10k out of a tire lol) and my knee is out everytime but i never touch lol. And dragging the peg sensation does the same for me, except i get a nervous twitch and end up jolting the bike which is VERY unsettling. But i know one day ill probably get over it, in all honesty i just wanna be a better rider draggin parts or not. I really value your opinion Jim and appreciate your time and knowledge, any advice i can get from youi take to heart and head. Thank You Jake | ||

Fresno, I completely agree with you and i will admit that i used to be one of those people who over tried with the knee, but i am seeing the light. for the past months ive observed and takin notes from what yall have said about body position and it has REALLY helped out my riding. And as sad (?) as it is to admit i am EASILY the "fastest" in the corners than any of my buddies....not sayin much for them, i really want to go riding with riders of greater experience than me so that i can learn from them. I hate dragging and hard parts--especially pegs. My only real crash was due to scraping pegs (which was made worse by me letting off the gas which compressed the suspension further.) | ||

Jake, You are probably pushing the bike under you. You shouldn't be anywhere near dragging anything at street speeds. In the canyons I take corners about 2x the "warning" sign, and I'm no where near touching anything. Dragging on the street is asking for something ugly to happen. Like Fresno said, leaning off (correctly) reduces the lean angle required for a given radius at a given speed. That's why racers do it. | ||

And remember, if you're riding at 100mph you'd better be able to panic stop from 100 under full control. That means LOTS of empty parking lot stopping practice. Accelerate up to a set speed, 25 mpg to start with and increase speed on subsequent runs as you improve, gradually squeeze the front brake to a count of two until you obtain full weight transfer to the front tire and hence full braking force. Modulate the lever at that point being ready to let off if the front locks up. Get comfortable with the technique, forces on your body etc. This is a serious sport bike and as such the rear brake is mostly useless during maximum force stops where the rear tire is barely weighted. | ||
