I tried removing the chin fairing this weekend and stripped 2 screws (I was using a T27 Torx socket). They were all a real pain to unscrew. Anyone else have any problem removing the screws? Anything I can do differently to keep from stripping them?

Sounds like there might have been red loc-tite on them. Use blue. The sripping may have started by overtightening.

Forgot to mention this is a brand-new bike. Trying to get the chin fairing off for the first service.

I'm guessing you got them all out? Sounds like they were crossthreaded. I'm guessing we are dealing with a brand new XB? If you don't have the fairing off yet, sometimes you can find an allen wrench to tap into the stripped torx. Maybe try to get them out that way. If that does not work, you need to drill them out. They should come out fairly easy. If they put up resistance the whole way out, I'm willing to guess that red thread locker was used.}

I had an airbox screw that would NOT be removed. Twisted the torx hole right out into a nice little circle. I used a rotary tool (aka Dremel) with a tiny cutting wheel to whack a line across the bolt head, effectively making it a giant flathead bolt. I also bought the biggest, baddest, 2 handed flathead driver I could find, and twisted that bad boy out. I've said it once, I'll say it again: thread locker on lightweight plastic parts is pointless. nothing but a headache.

I ended up drilling one out (left lower screw) and will just go with one on the left side.

Some were really loose, while others I could barely get out. I'll leave off the Loctite when I put it back together.

one of screws heads is stripped on the screw that holds my seat in (the right hand side i believe, i need to get a new one as some point, but it works for now
