Hola All! I was gonna try and make it out this morning to ride, but got the evil eye from the wife...I don't blame her! Anyway, I don't know what's going on this coming weekend, but I fly out again Sun or Monday, so I may be able to do a Saturday ride. I won't be at Hoss's 'til a little later (8-ish) 'cuz Wife has volleyball game...

Where all did you ride today? Who all was there?

Phil, Mel, Matt and I went out for a ride. We went down to VA. beach for a cruise and had some brunch. We hung out at BP for a bit and then headed back. A lazy day of riding but it was good to get out and ride.

today made me realize that we haven't much ridden ALL TOGETHER in a bit. or socialized for that matter.
this was especially obvious when i spotted Tank and S1Wmike at the 'ol BG MC'D's on my way to getting lost and showing up late to meet up with Todd, and Mel.
i pulled around and stopped to say a friendly 'hello' for a very brief, and very awkward moment. i felt horribly unwelcome in such a public setting, and as though i was imparting on something private and special. still, it was nice to see them.

Difference of opinions and riding styles has been the reason for the "split". Primarily riding in groups. Some may get mad for me expressing this but here it goes.

When I first met up with the HRH it was all about getting out riding and enjoying being around like minded people who were brought together because of one mans forward thinking and phenomenal engineering ideas. Then it seemed to begin to morph into a "bike club/gang wanna be". Going out and representing the 757 or whatever else. Maybe it was initially the patches that started all of this "representing" mentality. Not real sure, then came the BBQ seeing how many clubs we could get to show up. Dealing with organized bike clubs is like playing russian roullete with a fully loaded .357, by this I mean if you are not a locally or nationally recognized organization and they see you or your group as trying to organize and move in on their "territory" then thing turn ugly even if this was not your intentions at all.

Now lets talk about just overall riding style and maturity. Agreed I am not the one to lecture on maturity as I am probably the most immature person some will ever meet, but when I am riding in a formation that is a different story. Riding on the rear seat no hands on the bar, crowding inexperienced riders in formation, not keeping the pace of the slowest rider if they are not in the rear (put them in the rear so they do not hold others up). The list could keep going.

Once again this is just my opinion and observations and you are more than welcome to disagree. If you see this as a personnel attack then if the shoe fits wear it.

As far as you feeling akward in such a public place you must have a guilty conscience about something. You have a thin skin when it comes to stuff, and ever since the first time we had words you have acted a little bit different around me. When you posted on here about the little incident on the on ramp involving a certain SUV and then leaving the scene that made alot of peoples outlook on you completely different.

I enjoy getting out and riding, I enjoy my wife riding her bike with me, do I always need to go out and represent the "HRH"? Nope not at all. Do I like to get out and tear up the corners on the bike every now and then HELL YES I do. But there is a time and place for it.

So to give the abridged version, this started as a group with a love for a certain brand of motorcycles, it has now turned into a "CLUB" of some sorts. Not my interest, if I wanted to join a club I would join a nationally recognized club.

If you are looking for a decent group to model after check out the Tidewater HOG chapter. They organize good group rides with ability groups if they are going to be tearing it up.

Once again just my thoughts, if you agree or disagree really makes no difference to me.

Jimmy

Thanks Jimmy,

I was wondering what happened. And I think you're right. Especially when it comes to the club thing. I agree, for me I have an intense since of loyalty. I feel that organizations are like families and that's the way I look at us Buellers. Especially when it comes to "Us vs. Them". So often I get to circles where people have never seen a Buell I think it's important for me to educate them. I've always noticed that the more people see the more they want to see and being a salesman, it's just natural for me to promote the brand.

I absolutely love hanging out with you guys / gals. I see all of you as my brothers or sisters. And I think that as a family, it's up to us to educate those of us who are misinformed or uneducated. Riding is my passion and I want to do more of it. Iron sharpens Iron, so I ride hard with those who ride hard too. But I'll be the first to hang back with someone who doesn't feel confident, cause I was that person not too long ago.

Yes, I think we all could have handled some things better. Me, I could have asked how folks felt about my club building mentality. I don't know, maybe it's a black thing... (lol) But I looked around and noticed that "we" had something special and could be proud about it and I just wanted to put us out there as a model of how to do it right.

Not to mention, I'm always looking for a discount, something that's hard to do when you go in as an individual but simple when you've got a group.

All that to say, yup. I agree. We went from riding motorcycles to hanging in a bar talking about riding motorcycles. I think that's the point everything changed. We did it to prove something to the Chrome and Leather crowds, "...take us Buellers seriously, we ride our bikes even when it looks like rain ahead."

So... I'm glad I got that off my chest. It's been bugging me for months. I hate not knowing if I'm NOT supposed to call someone and see if they want to go out for a ride or something.

Just putting this out there... If anyone wants to ride and I'm available, I'll ride. It's the most important thing to me. Well second, knowing my friends are there when I need them is the most important. And I'll be there for anyone who needs me.

Friends?

Mel,

I don't know that Hoss's changed up things; however, I will put it out there that I'll take the hit for Hoss's. I started going there on Wednesday's before I rode with you all, and will continue to go there on Wednesday's. I don't go there to show off to the Harley dudes...I go there to have a sandwich and a beer and hang out. Hopefully, with guys/gals I ride with. I use Wednesday as a time to get together with folks I haven't seen, maybe plan for a weekend ride or get together, and B.S.

If I could get out and ride more, I would. I was gonna meet you guys on Sunday, but got the evil eye (deservedly) from a wife and mother who hasn't had her husband around too much as of late.

Regardless, if I can't get out and ride with you guys, it makes me feel good that I can at least hang out with you for a short while on Wednesdays.

As far as all the other stuff above...I'd bend over backwards to help out anyone, and if I needed help, I know that I could count on any and all of you.

I agree with promoting the brand 100%, me personally I have gotten quiet a few people on Buells since I got my first one. At least 6 that I can think of right off hand. I enjoy informing the un-informed about the forward thinking and design of Erik, and talking to them about the loyalty of the group that ride this brand.

I can say that I did enjoy the first few rides with the group but after that started becoming more of "lets see how deep we can roll in to some where" mentality and that is not what I am all about. The rides came to predictable after a while:

Poe's
Pungo
Hoss's
Quaker Steak and Lube

and that was the majority of the riding that was being done. What happened to hey lets make a trip to Carolina with no destination in mind and come back late that evening. Or even better yet just take a trip with no destination at all, take back roads and then find our way home. I guess more of a leisure ride, sure like I said before I enjoy tearing up the corners (may I add the uly does it remarkably well) but I do not always have to go out and do that.

Easter weekend I did a ride up to WV on the uly, took I64 up to 250 in Staunton and then just took whatever road I came to. No real destination except my parents house. Man what a blast.

Those are the types of trips that will make a group tighter, not setting in a smokie ass bar on a Wednesday night were you can barely hear each other talk. the rides were you can enjoy each others company and get to know each other, that is what builds a group. It becomes more personnel when you know each other better. This is the one leadership mentality the Corps brought to me and I use it at every unit I go to. But once again this is just my opinion.

I enjoy riding and that is what I will continue to do. I will be meeting up wit the C3ers soon and the same outlook I have they seem to have also.

As far as being there when people need me to be I try to do that as often as I am able, (Mel needed tires, Phil with his Micron, Myron with his primary nut to be able to get back to Lejeune). Not beating my own chest but I have some skills and like to help people when I can. Gotta run for now but if anyone needs anything let me know, Ron just called and actually needs a part that fell off his bike on the road. Gonna go take it off the SS and get him going.

Here, Here !

As a unit-er and not a divider, I choose to be a rider, what you ride, how you ride and who you ride with is of little concern to me. Unless of course your riding interferes with me (you hit or run into me) and that hasn't happened. However riding in formation does deserve some respect of others. I'm guilty of lofting the front end a few too many times (woop, woop... rider pull over).

Those that sit back and sulk, choose to do so, they are your feelings and I'm not responsible for how you feel.
If you don't say something (like "don't pop wheelies in formation"!) or mentor those that may need guidance, then you really shouldn't complain. Venting on a chat board by the way is a bit cowardice.

All that being said, you can't please everyone all the time. Our differences is what makes us, us. There are some of us that like having a beer and "rolling up" to a bar. That doesn't mean that everyone has to. If you don't want to do that, its OK. No problem. Nobody is twisting anyone's arm. Those that choose to ride apart from others is not a big deal to me. It's your choice. No apologies need be exchanged.

Being a Buell rider just became a very privileged group (thanks to the DICKS at the motor company).

If and when we all get together to ride, we need be respectful of our differences and unite in our passion. You will get that from me, I promise.

I'm sorry to see those that are leaving the area go but HRH will continue on regardless. No one person is HR Hooligans and in my opinion a Buell doesn't make a Hooligan.

LETS RIDE

The mentoring and talking has happened, but heed was not taken. The road and shoulder did some talking and mentoring (to more than one of us) and the effects only lasted a short while for some. Cowardice you say, once again your opinion. Don't really care for being called a coward but once again you are not afraid to throw it out there (on a computer mind you). I kept my mouth shut when maybe I should have said more or just knocked the out of someone. But hindsight is always 20/20.

If I talk to the individual in person it will more than likely turn to blows. It was prevented once before by some friends on a return trip from Poes next time it will happen. I can guarantee that.

I chose to remove myself from the situation before it did turn to that level. I do not handle ignorance well, call me hot headed if you will. But whatever man, like you said the HRH will/might go on. With the younger crowd that jumped on when the fire sale occured maybe the recruitment will go up and you all can become a recognized organization. To each his own.

Heres to riding with friends having a good time and the man who made it all possible.

Goodluck to you all and keep the rubber side down.

Jimmy

Jimmy, until this post, I mentioned no names. Previous post, no names.

If it comes to blows or "knock the outta them" as you stated, you are choosing to let your emotions be controlled by someone else. If it comes to blows... then your point will not only be disregarded but could cost you legal issues in this day and age. I read no where in my previous post of calling you "Jimmy" a coward.

I believe that the practice of ranting and such behind a computer is a bit cowardice (my opinion). It's very easy to take all of this personal and if my post stirs emotions, then I have proven my point.

The point being, sitting behind a computer, it's real easy to let your emotions get the best of you and spew venom with a sense of non-ownership. It's a disease on all chat forums and I seen it on ships by young sailors.

I have said things to folks here in confidence and if they choose not to listen then I did my part and my conscience is at ease. Stupid is as stupid does.
People are who they choose to be. Me, you or anyone for that matter, cannot make someone be something or do something, regardless of how right we are.

I hold no grudges, however there are some folk that I wish lived in another country. LoL, it takes too much energy to be upset.

I enjoy your company and conversation. As a brother in arms, I wish you and your family the best and a safe career. Oooo Raah !

Wow... is it me or does this feel like a Doctor Phil show? lol (No offense to our very own Phil)

This is good... anyone else? I wish we all could sit around and do this in person, but the reality is, someone would get interrupted, someone would feel singled out, someone might get punched, (what's the big deal about that anyway? I fight with my best friends all the time, it lets them know I care.) Maybe it's my age showing, but I have really enjoyed giving folks a chance to vent. I might not be able to do anything about it, but sometimes just being able to say it out loud helps.

My point is, it's better to let folks know when you have a problem then just saying nothing and that goes out to everyone reading this. There have been plenty of times where I could have changed something I was doing that offended someone if only I had known. Sometimes, you don't know what you don't know.

So, who wants to go riding? (Of course, I ask that right before I take the family on vacation to the mountains) These roads are getting stale. Gonna miss you guys down at "April Buells Day" and yeah, I'm riding.

Jimmy, I'm still hoping you'd lead (at least me) on a ride through your fair state. Can't say I'd know what to do if I was alone and heard Banjo music! lol.

This just in....

Va Police in conjunction with local law enforcement will be running operation "On 2" during the month of May. The purpose is to catch undocumented riders. The way it was told to me, "they will be stopping groups of 3 or more motorcycles to check license and registrations."

I don't know how that's legal, but I just wanted to pass it on.

Well, made it to Ashville, looks like ill be spending the weekend with the Prez while the storms blow over. Matt, thanks for the Laminar, I don't think it helps much, but it might be because my new bars don't leave enough room for it to sit properly. Big thanks to Phil for the super cross country back pack!! Dude this bag is awesome, just make sure u don't pack I with 50 lbs of gear like I did!

Okay,
bike goes in the shop tomorrow. Wish me luck. The engine oil light periodically comes on and I get a grinding noise about 3,000 rpm. I need it in prim condition to get at least one more ride in with you guys before I head out and because I wanna ride it to NC instead of having to put it on the trailer. Let us pray.

Our bueller's who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy rides will come, with curves and very few straight aways, give us sunshine most of the day, and make the rain go away, and come again another day. And when it's cold, give us some warm clothes. For riding is our life, and sanity, forever and ever. Amen.
