im a plumber. that is pretty common practice to take the anode out. water filtration and softners can cost huge amounts of money. i know, i have top of the line Kenetico softner, filters, and R.O. system. (value is some where in the $7,000) i do agree with mr. grumpy, softners do extend the life of heaters, and other appliances. i would look into this. i'm not a big fan of the elec. tankless units. Gas is much better in my opinion. if you go with a traditional water heater, try a Lochinvar. this is what we install and do not seem to have any problems. good luck. always use a licensed plumber, it's the law. try and find a really good one that knows what he is doing. stay away from the companies that advertise, they tend to be the most expensive due to ad. costs. |

My home gas water heater takes 50 cents a day to get all the hot water I need. I was toying with an in line electric water heater for the other shack, to heat my domestic hot water tank that is normally heated by an outdoors wood burning boiler in the winter and a 175,00 BTU gas boiler in the summer. Plumber said no,cost is too much in this area for electricity.....but thought it was a neat idea,none the less to save the big boiler from firing up to take care of "just that water tank" in the summer. Also said the big boiler is so efficient,it probably wouldn't save enuf to notice. Local electric utility also said to go with the gas heater........or I could just burn wood in the outdoors boiler all summer for domestic hot water........but I hate to waste the wood............and run out of wood when the house needs it for heat. |

one of the blades just came off the whole house fan..... WOOOOO HOOOO...

Your ••••••• plumber removed the anode rod?? That is why your tank crapped out after only 7 years. Not because of a rheem water heater. especially if your on a well instead of municipal water. The plumber should have suggested treating the cause of the sulfur. There are 2 different kinds of anode rods you can put in a water heater depneding on the amount of sulfur in the water. Water heaters these days are pretty much junk compared to 20 years hence the reason for anode rods. If your even thinking about a tankless make sure you have the power available. I put a small one in a home 2 years ago that required 2 40 amp 220 volt breakers to run the heating element. One 80 would ot work.. it needed two 40. Also a maytag water heater is made by US Craftmaster which is not one of the more reliable units on the planet.. I know, i work on them ALL the time |
