Cold start for mine is: Crank over, starts right up. runs 2 seconds. dies. hit starter again. starts right up and this time stays running. Any one else have to do this little dance? Is this a developing problem? If it was my 2000 X1, I would just crack the throttle a bit. I was told not to do this on the 2008 models. |

Fixed. Not sure what you are doing wrong, the 08+ bikes start easier than the old ones. |

Nate, mine does the same thing; but not all of the time. Sometimes it almost stalls, then it catches itself and runs like it should. I've been riding it through the winter, and it hasn't fouled a plug yet, so I'm not going to worry about it. My '06 Uly would stall almost every time, in the cold weather, so I just figure it's just part of the process. |

mine did that before i grounded everything again with star washers and extra ground wires..... grounding on these bikes is a problem... mine runs like a different bike now... even with star washers under my battery cables, i noticeded yesterday, that they were working loose again.. there has to be a better way....any tighter and ill strip the terminal.. also, after you ground it, go thru the tbs reset proceedure, if its an 08.. TPS reset: turn on without starting and open and close the throttle five times slowly? Right? |

Mine does the same thing on cold (sub-40F) mornings - even after I cleaned up and reinstalled all the grounds. Very annoying. ...I'm going to try adding some ground straps between the main chassis and tail section and the engine block and main chassis and see if that clears it up. |

Only when it's cold. The irridium plugs from American Sport Bike helps a lot. |

I agree, sub 40, turn the key on wait for fuel pump to stop, hit starter and it will run for 3-4 seconds. let fuel pump prime again, hit starter and she fires right up and idles fine. Above 40 starts first time every time. (Damn I love that bike)! |

My 08 only stalls once if its below 32 and I can't complain about that. above 35 never stalls and idles perfect everytime...What is DOES do is weird , initial starter button push results in an agonizingly slow crank and then it almost stops on the compression stroke..... and then (keep holding the button) cranks over fine. If you shut it off after it starts and try it again its fine. Happens everytime it sits overnight or sits days on end. Like a dead battery but voltage good and grounds cleaned and redone as per bulletin. |

My '08 Uly does same thing around 40F. Stalls twice below 32F. I use iridium plugs from American Sport Bike. I tightened up the battery terminals (just a little bit loose, now VERY tight), grounding checked ok (may use the star washers next). Annoying yes, but when it finally starts and stabilizes, the bike runs perfect. Weird thing is, the bike never did this winter before last. I'll be looking here for more advise. |

08XT did it till I put Iridium in it. I did a breather reroute and now it is even better. If you put new plugs in it, use a piece of 1/4" fuel line to start the rear spark plug. When it dies; part of ritual is to turn ignition completely off then back on and wait for light to go out again. |

The 09 Uly I was using just about always started, and I was using it consistently in the 30s/40s. |
