20 miles from home after watching the CCS Jennings races. I went to take off (nothing special), the bike started to move then acted like it popped out of gear. I stepped down on the lever to make sure I fully engaged 1st, nothing. I figure I lost 1st gear, so I shift to 2nd. Still no go. Look down and the belt is hanging off rear sprocket. Dang the luck!! |

you got twice as far as I usually do. I preemptively change mine every 9k.... but I abuse the bike a lil more than most |

I've recently noticed my belt is not at its prime, it might give out soon, 14,800+ |

23K+ and it seems okay, besides the burned hole from the welders shop, happened some where around 15K I think. I don't wheelie, or stunt at all but have been to the track a couple times. |

Hey Paint, I just pulled off mine after 15,000. I am going to throw it on ebay. Don't know if you want it or not, but I'm replacing mine since it's a pain in the ass so call it preventative, LOL. Figured I'd do it while I had the motor out. |

That just stinks. At least you weren't doing something stupid when it happened like I did! Maybe you should think about a chain conversion for the bike you use for track days, and switch the good belt to your road bike. If that is how you use them. Otherwise, just convert both to chain.

And to think I have over 25K on my old 03 belt, without the belt guards... |

So the big question is who has the most miles on the "lifetime" belt? |

I've recently noticed my belt is not at its prime, it might give out soon It's a lot more convenient to change the belt before it gives out ... |

I believe at least a couple of Uly riders have seen upwards of 30k on the first generation Uly belts. The 2008-up belts are supposed to be even better, incorporating improvements from the 1125R belt. |

I ran my '06 original Uly belt to 33,000. It was still good but fairly loose. I changed it before a long trip for peace of mind. I keep it around as my spare. |

What's the deal? I had 50,000mi. on my stock '99 belt and then changed it as maintenance. I sent the old one to Tramp since he was desperate for one a few years ago. I thought that part of the advantage of having a belt over chain is that it lasts so much longer. |

It seems, on the average, that tube frame belts seem to last longer than XB belts. Perhaps the belt tightening idler puller on the XB models have an effect on belt life? 37,000 on my S3, the belt looks like new. |

Yeah - I'm almost exactly 35K miles on my S3. I gotta remember that I'm supposed to worry about it. |

As far as I know, its Dr_Greg, he had about 50k and his broke during a parking lot mishap. I was just a tad under 30k when my lifetime 06 belt broke. |

41,000 miles on mine when it broke. Looked like it was still in good shape when it broke. |

I think mine failed at 17k on an 05 XB12ScG... a week after the clutch cable went... |

I had 34,000 miles on my '06 Uly belt when I traded the bike in on my '08 XT. |

I should add, the belt showed no signs of having a hole and no visible catastraphic damage (other than the failure it self). Of note it does look like "dry rot" on the inside of nearly all the teeth. Jon, I know I will stay with a belt for the street and I plan to run a belt on the race bike for as long as I can. (Message edited by Paint shaker on April 06, 2009) |
