ok so i work in an office, and in the summer i ride my bike in alot, well after melting a few pairs of dress pants on my header as well as the morning air cutting through sheer dress pants like someone threw and ice cube down your shirt, its time for another option...... should i get... a size bigger pair of jeans leather chaps jean chaps (if they make them) whatever you guys use in this situation keep in mind im on an x1, and two i dont want to look like a retard with a rubber suit on. | ||

There has been a few times were I've rode with dress pants on. Mine didn't melt but, I was afraid I'd ruin them. I just borrow my old man's leather chaps. They work great and you can find them pretty cheap at bike shows. | ||

Get a cheap pair of armored riding pants, and just buy them big. The Buell Adventure Pants are like this, and are good pants, but might not be the cheapest thing you will find. I got a pair of First Gear riding pants from a well known but non sponsoring online merchant. I think I paid like $130 for them, and I think there are even cheaper no-name kinds now. They breathe OK in the summer, give great protection against road rash (which even at 15 mph can hurt like crazy) and keeps "road goo" off the work pants. They take maybe 45 seconds to pull on or off right over your normal pants. Ideally, an aerostitch one piece is the perfect solution. Goes on and off even faster, gives great protection, works year round, and is generally approved for beginner track day sessions. I want it and its worth it, but I can't afford it  | ||

What Indy said, I have a pair of over pants I put on over my dress pants when I rode to work. Keep an extra pair of shoes in my desk so I can change outta my boots when I get here... | ||

I use a back pack.... for office clothing, slacks,shoes,belt,even my laptop when needed change there.. i do it all the time. just hide the tie and don't wear a pink shirt on those days.......... | ||

I wear a monkey suit to work under my Aerostich Roadcrafter 1 piece. No melted cloths, no wrinkles either. I hate my dress code at work. | ||

I put a heat shield on the header pipe, after I wrapped the pipe that would be under the shield. I can now touch, without getting burned. see my profile. | ||

800 bucks for a one piece road crafter! wooo! hmmm 90" kit or 1 piece.......... im leaning towards the adventure pants or a one size bigger kevlar pants | ||

Do the headers on the X1 protrude more than the XB? I really have not rode my 12Ss in other than textile pants more than 2-3 times and while the heat can get uncomfortable it has never damaged my clothing. Then again I rode a 94' VFR750 for 12 years so I am pretty much used to the leg cooking only difference being the grill zone moved up my leg about 6". | ||

Get a surplus Nomex flight suit. ~ $40 Check out "CheaperThanDirt". Most of the fire protection is probably gone but still a good windbreaker w/ lots & lots of pockets. | ||

here's what you do: wear a textile jacket and pant combo so you can slip them on and off easily. wear your work pants under your riding pants. wear your undershirt under your riding jacket. carefully fold your work shirt into a backpack. enjoy ride to work. avoid being run over. take off riding suit. slap on clean crisp work shirt. enjoy work day with nice almost wrinkle-free clothes and a lovely case of helmet head! note: work pants may tend to wrinkle depending on outside temps.... the wrinkles usually fall out shortly. ...been doing this everyday for over a year now... | ||

I have a pair of tourmaster textile pants (caliber I think?) and they will melt to the header. They have before. The only thing I've worn that I know without a doubt won't melt is leather chaps. They don't really look normal on an X1 but who cares. They're nice for long distance rides too because the leather is heavy enough to prevent whatever other lower body garment you're wearing from flapping against your leg constantly. | ||

I bought a pair of thin ,cheap Cargo pants one waist size larger and two inches longer than my normal size and just pull them over my dress pants. They also have an elasticized waist drawstring thingy which make them more comfortable. I think I paid $12 for them at Kohls. | ||

I have a pair of Alpinestar light armor, double mesh, padded knees, zip open legs, over pants. These things are great in cool weather to hot weather. Being double mesh and some special fiber crotch paneled, they are great for heat insulation on the Uly. They are easy on and off, so you don't have to feel like a tard taking off your pants in front of people that you work with. Just unzip the legs and walk out of them. They won't mess up your clothing under them either. | ||

since i pissed off the brother in law a few weeks ago, i'm riding the bikes every day and i use the same chaps that i've had for the past 15-16 years that were made in the usa. although this job allows me to wear jeans, my other jobs made me wear dress pants. i can't afford aerostitch right now either but i also don't care what i look like on the bike (unlike some people). remember why you ride a buell, and it's not because you want to be like every one else. | ||
