it is 32 deg and my beloved uly has been sitting hardly ridden in over the last three months. just been to busy. to might I needed to go to a coworkers house to pick up a part and service book. it is about a 15 minute ride half good old twisty Va. two lane, it is 1900 hours and 37 deg do I take the Ridgeline for comfort and XM, or the Miata for fun, or the jack of all trades, Swiss army knife of motorcycles the ulysses. I love this bike and am reminded every time I ride it. Which vehicle would you have taken? |

As Danger_Dave has said:

Seriously, your in Virginia, I am in NY. As long as the roads aren't iced over I am out. |

Don't feel bad, this has been a very warm winter down here in NC but I've only ridden a few times. I used to get my fix on my daily commute but since I started working from home full time I don't get out much. Who would of thought you could ever MISS a commute? |

Jaybird, how are you liking your Ridgeline, I will be getting a 08 in April and I have this dream of loading up the Uly , hooking my ultralite aluminum teardrop trailer and takin'off. Have you ever loaded your bike into the box?? (sorry for the slight hijack) |

Would you like some cheese with that whine. -41.8 in Estevan Saskatchewan and has been at least -30 for over 3 weeks. We would kill to have your balmy weather and we may do just that the next time we here any unwarranted whining from the banana belt lol |

I got a small thermometer and velcroed it to my Uly's dash, so I know when to look for ice. Heated jacket and gloves help, and so do the new, insulated Fieldsheer pants (zipout liner, vented, armored) that I got at IMS. Although, they're predicting tomorrow here (north of DC) the *high* will be 22. Might tape over the oil cooler - got home last night (27), shut the bike off, fan didn't come on. It was *that* cold. Now, to decide if I need to see how the 616s handle 1/4" of white on the side road from my house to the highway...or if I wimp out (get smart) and drive the Jeep to work today. Once out of the "neighborhood", the wife says roads are clear....we'll see. |

Thunder, your right. We shouldn't be whining about the cold compared to what you've got. Thats so damn cold I'd be afraid my nuts would freeze to my seat. Lol, I'll tell you what though, how about you come and visit this July and we can go for a ride. It'll only be about 95-100 F and 70-80% humidity. I'll be sure to find some nice stop and go traffic for us. You bring your bike and I'll supply the beer. |

Who's up for taking on a heated-seat mod for the Uly? Strada? I know, I know, the heated seat is already a built-in feature all the other seasons of the year. I rented a BMW R1200RT out in northern CA a couple years ago...it was rainy and chilly. I freakin' loved its heated seat. That, combined with my leaky rain pants, created a nice warm bath down there. |

Just added a Tourmaster synergy heated vest with comfy collar. Now my below 0 deg Celsius commutes are very nice. Heated seat rocks and Alaska Leather sheepskin cover is verrrrrry nice. Only other bike out I saw the other day was another Buell! |

Hooper, you are a man of simple pleasures. I like warm baths. But, have never tried one on the bike. |

Supertoon- I can answer the Ridgeline question-- and it relates to weather! Here in VT (-12 today) I have Winter-- then mud season. April is nice enough to start riding- but my road is 1' deep mud. I load it into my Ridgeline to trek it to a lot 2 miles away to start my ride. While the Uly is humiliated in the back of the Honda- it fits nicely with the rear wheel centered on the heavy tail gate. I use two aluminum ramps- one for the bike and one for me. Have to start it and work the clutch it in 1st to get it up, as the bed is high. CAREFUL. Interesting that others have the ridgeline/uly combo. both are different in their categories. |

It was better than the cold bath I had with the same leaky rain pants while riding in Scotland (that BMW R850R didn't have a heated seat). My boys were not happy. As you can see, it took me two rainy trips to locate the faulty seam in the ol' "crotchal" region. Sealed it up with some tent goo and I'm good to go now. |

Dnveloman, thanks for the info, the main reason we are buying this truck is to haul my little camper with the bike in the box. Drive a day or two on the slabs to a new location and do "cloverleaf" tours. We love Vt. and are down there every chance we get.I am 30 mins. from the border. Last fall we ended the season with a ride to Manchester, stayed in a little hotel and toured all the amazing backroads and did some hiking as well. With the truck we will be camping now as well! I checking out the lightweight folding ramps on motorcycleramps.com, kinda pricey but look well made... |

Good to see there are a few others out there that have to store their Uly for a few months! NH/VT is where I do 90% of my riding-- but I plan to get to Quebec in 09. I'll keep an eye out for you. |

Would you like some cheese with that whine. Thunderbox not complaining about the temp just trying to state how much I love this bike. Even when it is cold I still look for reasons to ride. I bet when it is -41 deg you don’t try writing your name with yellow snow. Ratbuell did you ride Tuesday I was in Ashburn and there was a light dusting of snow on the sides of the road and in parking lots. I wish we would get some real snow |

Yep, rode Tues and Weds. Too dumb to come in out of the (two-digit-temp) cold, lol. Yesterday and today, with the temp at *six*....drove the Jeep. Probably just as cold (Wrangler soft top), but at least I can't fall over on it, LOL. |

32°F and your not riding!!! Took a nice 60+ mile rip on Jan 4, with a daytime high of 28°. I guess it's a matter of conditioning, 32° to you probably feels like single digits to us up in Northern New England. Here's a shot from my ride: (Message edited by cyclone8u on January 17, 2009) |

There is no way I would knowingly ride on a road covered in that "white stuff"..Down you go and under a truck or guardrail..It can happen so fast with no traction...good luck and be extra careful... |

Saturday in the DC/Suburban Maryland area was supposed to be 44, but it was only upper 30s. Then, it started dropping. I had a GREAT ride through Montgomery, Howard, and Baltimore Counties, but my fingertips had a ROUGH time (the rest of me was in good shape). The heated grips were doing all they could. I need to quit procrastinating and get the heated gloves - it would have made the day much more enjoyable. I stopped by Bob's BMW in Jessup, MD for the first time. That's a heck of a store in a remote location...LOTS of Bimmers and a fantastic mini-museum of old BMWs. I was really impressed to see the number of cold weather riders that were showing up to the shop. That said, I was MORE than proud to park a Uly in front of that shop! It attracted a bit of attention. |

Yesterday it was over 41 degrees and that is Celsius here in Australia, you double that and add 30 so it was 112 degrees Farenheit That's typical summer riding weather here in Texas. That's why when I see people from the northern part of the country say the Ulysses doesn't get hot on the right side of the bike, I have to ignore them... they have no idea what summer riding is all about.
