You shouldnt be ashamed to take advantage of the rights your constitution and state has allowed for personal protection. Carrying a weapon doesnt mean you have an ego or are tough guy. It does mean you have a lot of responsibility though.

I've had the middle finger pointed my direction on more than one occasion while riding. It's ALWAYS too nice a day on the motorcycle to spend it dicking with jerk-offs in cages.

The most versatile weapon you can carry is your own ability to understand and communicate. It'll get you MUCH further than brandishing anything metallic!

It's also rarely illegal to carry such things.

If you carry, you must be able to access your firearm. With a tight leather padded jacket, not many options. If thiers is out, you can't get yours. Someone at the top of the thread said " It does mean you have a lot of responsibility though" If you take a shot keep in mind if you miss you can likely hit an innocent person or child. So you must have the mindset and skill. If you carry you should train. Just my .02...

I often have my old Leatherman in my jacket pocket. Not only could I stab an assailant, I could use the pliers to pinch his or her nipple. Then when we all calmed down I could open a can of soup and a beer for them and then we could both file our nails.

That is the ultimate in deadly versatility.

Ever notice that the more time any individual spends in the sh*t (esp. at the receiving end of firefights) the less jerked-off they are to "carry" out here in the real world?

In the case of a fellow rider that I know, he never carried until he had a break down on a way back road in Kentucky. On a sole Saturday jaunt he was four miles from the last place to ask for help and beyond phone signal. He had to leave the bike and walk back to the gas station on a very desolate road. He passed two cabin/houses of the old falling down type and feared asking them for help as he noticed no phone or electric wires and only old junk vehicles around. As he passed one of them he was watched by a guy on a porch with a shotgun at hand. He said he will never be that defenseless and scared again. Having a pistol at that time would not have made for a confrontation, but his comfort level would have been much higher.

I'm looking into a rocket launcher mounted on a race leathers back protector for myself.

Part of the reason I live where I do is so that I don't have to carry. I refuse to live my life in fear. I live in a quiet little town, hidden away and unknown to most people. My daily life style doesn't put me in contact with the type of people I need to fear. I keep my CCW current just in case but seldom carry any more.

Besides, most people I know carry more for show or self image than for self defense. I can't be bothered.

In Ohio now it is legal to carry concealed! Finally .........

Carrying while riding is a right we deserve. It also takes some thought and training if you have to defend yourself while moving. We are at a slight disadvantage reaction time wise.

Just be careful to remain concealed. cross draw appendix carry is what I prefer. easy to get to and easy to conceal.

A clip knife, but it's more of a tool than a weapon, and it's always on me except when I sleep.

I pay attention to my surroundings & leave if it doesn't "feel right."

Better to run away & live for another day, than to tempt fate for no forseeable gain.

"Besides, most people I know carry more for show or self image than for self defense."

+1

Plus I worry about some douche with a chip on his shoulder running his mouth and picking a fight. Then, instead of taking his beating like a man, he pulls a gun to even the odds.

I'm not a fan of unregulated concealed carry laws and I don't view carrying a concealed weapon wherever you go as a Constitutional right. I don't see any "well regulated militia" aspect to packing a Glock every time you go to Wal-Mart. Even though the Heller vs D.C. ignored the preface to the amendment, it still kept the focus of the decision to having a weapon in your home.

I really don't want to live in a society where every ween with a cowboy complex gets to carry a gun in the mall.

Here in the Tampa Bay area of Florida gun shops can't keep ANYTHING on the shelf. My son was in a local shop last week looking around and the shop owner told him sales have almost tripled since the election.

I was talking to a friend of mine who manages a large gun store in Houston--he says his sales of guns and ammo are up 100% since the election.

Based on the short time Ive seen your internet personality I would say your type would be one of those armchair know it all pistol carriers. More for show than anything else. We dont need gun owners like that.

Yes I live in Tulsa,OK (The South)and all I've heard is fellow Okies talking about their right to bear arms and how quick the President elect will be shot.I was born and raised here and have always been proud of my home state until now.I now realize just how racist this sate is.Everytime the election or Obama's name is mentioned people start talking guns.
I say when its your time,it's your time. You can't cheat death. I am not a gun owner nor will I ever be. God save us all.

Obama openly supports a permanent ban on "assaullt" rifles. Which means if you dont have one now would be a good time to get one. Even an idiot could get that. }

Heh... oops, I totally forgot I even posted this. It was more idle curiosity than anything. I was remembering that thread on some other forum where one of those large bike "gangs" was causing trouble in Texas, and when one of the drivers responded aggressively, somebody in the motorcycle pack shot up the car. Just made me wonder how many people actually carry weapons with them.

The roads I ride might as well be lined with teddy bears and lollipops. But I do usually have a pocketknife. I would think any weapon would be difficult to use on the spot if you're wearing gloves.

"Yeah, I read about how a bunch of nutjobs have convinced themselves that Obama's gonna come and get their guns!

Um... that's like the Liberal wet dream. Zero guns and health care for all. Considering the amount of power the Dems are coming into, you don't have to stretch the imagination very far to see the possibility. Baby steps.

Don's Guns ("We don't wanna make any money we just love to sell guns!") of Indianapolis was on the local news last evening. He's reporting a sharp increase in sales and long lines at the counter. He bought ahead anticipating Obama's win but says other dealers may have a hard time replenishing stock on high demand items.
