Greenamp ...""Wow why would KTM refuse them? Bonehead move if you ask me.""

In the first move "Long Way Round" this is in the video.

The KTM rep was clearly uncomfortable with the abilities of the actors as riders. KTMs had already been through that route and the KTM rep was describing to Charlie and Ewan the conditions and I don't think that he liked their light hearted attitudes and doubted that they could make it.

Of course, if the trip failed for ANY reason (rider skill included) it would have looked bad for KTM.

Personally, I thought the whole bike begging scene was lame. Charlie and Ewan have the coin: they should have just bought their own scoots instead of begging them IMHO.

In the end, KTM backing out turned out to be great for BMW.

One of the funniest scenes in the whole movie was where one of the big Beemers broke down so the cameraman ended up riding a little Russian made pea shooter bike. It did a lot better through the rough, muddy roads simply because it was so light.

Of course, it wasn't a "real" D/S bike, but that is another subject altogether!

Just got back from the theatre for the 2 hour feature - there were about 8 others in the whole place. I was surprised - no throngs of bike nerds and dudes wearing Aerostich gear. Anyway, it was more of a tease for the complete series - lots of interesting places to ride a big bike through, lots of tipovers (including Ewan's wife, a new rider!), some serious mud, serious sand, two busted rear shocks, and more of the same monotonous commentary (no writers) from "Long Way Round".

Definitely a tougher ride than the East-West trip...much less "tarmac". Made me want to get out and ride...to work tomorrow, and then start my weekend!

Anyway, the more bike shows the better - I'll be looking for the DVDs in October since I don't get Fox Reality. Wait, is that a contradiction in terms?

I saw it tonight at the Union Square theater. It was probably 80% full, but it played on several screens here in NYC.

Entertaining, but I still think the "real men" are the guys from Terra Circa!

Went and saw it tonight in Plano, TX. Cinemark "Tinseltown" theater. They had it in one of the smaller ones off to the side of the main hallways.
Anyway, by showtime the theater was completely full and several times during the showing I looked around and discovered there was 5-10 people on either side of the stadium seating standing through the movie.

Needless to say, they over sold our location.

We had a good time and enjoyed the show.

All will like the 10 x 50+mins episodes which includes lots more 'stuff' on fox reality. I am a real fan of the adventure aspect of travel. Here in Montana (whole state) no showings of the movie, but I sure I would have gone. But 2 hours is just a tease to the 500+ mins for the whole deal, even the BBC cut of 6 hrs really sucked... to rushed with the BBC edition. The book is even better.

The only two critism on LWD would they should have taken 1-2 more weeks for the trip and support trucks less time with the motorcycles. And I will say Eve was great to have along.

Mondo Enduro and (soon) Terra Circa, Austin's and Friends adventure on the cheap with DR350's is the real deal! Also Lois (Austin's Wife/GF)http://www.loisontheloose.com/ is very interesting. And a plug to Ted Simons/Nick Sanders/Helge Penderson (sp?) which have been pushing the rubber on 2 wheels around the world for years...years.

2 weeks ago Ted Simons and Helge were at the BMW MOA Rally. I met both and awesome story tellers. Ted inspired Ewan to do LWR (was on the cover of the book/in the film). What a gental old man (70's now). Ted told me that the part in LWR in Mongolia were Charley/Ewan met him was completely planned. Ewan called Ted and flew him to Mongolia just for that 5-6 mins of film in the market. It's a wee-bit Hollywood LOL!!

Saw it last night in Erie, PA. MAYbe 50 people. It seemed to me it started out pretty slow, but once they got to Africa, things picked up. Gotta give Ev props... for as many times as she dropped her bike, it would have been very easy to say, "Throw it in the truck!" but she stuck with it. I'm not so sure I would not have gone down that much myself. Anyway, that was cool when they encountered the dude going around the world by nothing more than human power. Like Ewan said, makes them look like pussies! LOL...(like trailering to Sturgis...)

Looking forward to the series now.... gonna have to TIVO it!

At least 3 of us Badwebbers in the Charleston, SC area attended last night.

I think a Uly would have faired pretty well in everything they rode through except that sand, especially that talcum-powder-fine stuff they rode through at one point.

Cool flic.

There were a total of 5 people at our theater - and to think we showed up early to get a good seat! Anyone know where I could get Eve's Alpine Star pants - it sucks trying to find girl riding pants (that aren't leather).

My wife and I loved it! The theatre was pretty packed here in San Jose, Ca. I was impressed with the entire movie. From a rider's viewpoint, being right there with Ewan and Charlie, to the awesome animal footage, and the comedic aspect of those 2. Charlie Boorman sure is one ugly fella!

The movie got a standing ovation. And yes, Eve was a real trooper!

Pretty full-house in Ahwatukee (SE Phoenix) AZ. The film was showing in several theaters throughout the metro area. Technical difficulties caused a 45 minute delay and the loss of the first couple of minutes of the show (planning stages).

A fair number of bikes in the parking lot. Pretty good considering that it was over 110 yesterday afternoon.

Well worth the trip and I am looking forward to the full show on TV.

Technical difficulties? I laughed at the end of ours, it was being projected from a windows computer and he closed the DVD software.

Nearly full house here in Albuquerque NM. The wife and I and son couldn't all sit together. Of course the local BMW (M/C) dealer gave out 100 free tickets (yes I got three).

Well done. Man, that silt reminded me of what they have in Baja. Almost like a liquid.

Saw it last night and loved it. I drug my wife, thinking that I would owe her big (as in have to go see a chick flick) but she really enjoyed it as well. I've got the DVR ready for tomorrow.

I saw it at Opry Mills.

Took the wife, who didn't really want to go, and she loved it. She cried through a lot of the parts where they showed the little kids that had been shot and tortured.

She said, "It's too bad only motorcycle people will watch this. It's something I think everyone would enjoy"

She's right. And she's waiting for the series to start, same as me.

You gotta admit though, pretty damned effective advertising for BMW either way. I mean hell, they took those bikes from Scotland to South Africa and the only problems they seemed to have were a couple of blown shocks. And Ewan dropped his bike hard on more than one occasion.

I thought it remarkable that the bikes stayed so CLEAN! Especially after traversing those nasty, gooey, gummy mud flats. But hey, I'm sure the local "fixers" had a line on the bike wash providers.

I agree w/ mike dinger.... dude, he IS kinda fugly, but he fits the biker look. The whole wheelie side plot was funny, too. Then, just a couple hundred miles from the end... crash... due to the hot shot wheelie expert. I like how Charley played it down before he apologized.

Of course, since Ewan got a conjugal visitation and he DIDN'T, maybe he was just letting out some pent up frustration. 85 days in the bush without any luvin's....make ANY man want to ride wheelies in front of a crowd!

I don't know...I don't have the catalog. I haven't bought anything from Aerostich in a couple of years and they didn't send me one.

I did submit a photo to them, so it very well could be me.

I appreciated that they did show plenty of footage of dumping the bikes. I also can't imagine how much sand must have been in the bike air filters from that sand storm.

I would have like a little more detail on how they provisioned and handled the logistics. How many tires they had etc.

If I'm touring or it's cool out, I'm in the roadcrafter.

I've been caught in rain that soaked other people I was riding with, and I was dry except of a few places like my neck.

I highly recommend one.

+1 to roadcrafters, i just wish they came with more protection. Sure you can order hip and back pads, but i still feel its not enough. I can feel the rain hitting me, vs my old suits i only figured out it was raining by the sound.

Motoport- not real chic... but it crashes well, breathes well (Ultra 2 mesh kevlar) and the rain liners have always kept me dry.
