Brian at Legends HD in Silverdale,WA allowed me to demo a new XT. I think this is the best street bike I've ever ridden. The power and handling were very balanced together. I'm seriously considering this bike as my next. I've never owned a Buell, but I read this board daily. This is an outstanding source of information. The heat on my right leg was there (75 degrees out). Can the 2008 Buells get the same MPG as the 2007's? Thanks for reading.

As an XT owner, I couldn't agree with you more. My previous ride, an '03 XB9S, that I slowly turned into a "Touring" model was good, but the XT was made to be an "adventure" touring bike!

Yes, I know some of the purists on this board don't agree with me. And that's OK. I'm riding it for my own needs and reasons... =)

Heat issue: LOTS of threads on that topic. My summary: I used the (Maximum) heat blanket (from Odie, made by Maximum); wrapped my pipes; and a RSS (Right Side Scoop) from Al (American Sportbike). The sum total of the three have radically reduced the heat I feel on my daily commute.

XT so far (2.75K and rising), no issues, none! If my XB9S(T) is an indicator, I probably won't have any until around the 25-30K mark. Simple stuff like the usual "expendables" were replaced, but nothing major... Unless caused my by own recklessness. But that's another story.

One small comment, the XT's rear shock adjustment is a simple yet genius way to go from one up to two up riding in just a few turns of my wrist. The handling was solid! I tend to carve roads at a pretty steep angle, so even with two on board, it felt very natural.

I could go on, but I'll let others have a chance as well...

I've got a '01 Blast, a '03 XB9R, and recently added a '08 XB12XT.

...if I could keep only one, it would be the XT. The bike does it all, and it does it all well. I've got about 2200mi on it now, the only problem I've had is rattling a few fasteners loose (not XT specific by any means).

It gets worse mileage than my XB9R, but not as bad as some other people are reporting. It's somewhat irritating, since it should get BETTER mileage, but I'm confident that sooner or later they'll work that kink out.

One of the board sponsors, Odie of Special Ops, has heat blankets for sale to deal with the rear head pouring heat through the seat/frame gap.

I also have a new XT with 1900 miles and agree with Darthane's assessment - annoying loose fasteners, right side heat (bearable if you ride with proper gear and don't rest your leg on the frame), and disappointing gas mileage. I use it daily as a short commuter with long country rides in the weekend, and I average about 36-38 MPG. Buell has a fix for this, but most dealers in my area (MD/DC) are dumbfounded when I call the service desk and ask for it.

Check out Frederick HD/Buell in Frederick, MD. They aren't dumbfounded...

Rwven - thanks, I usually go to them, but when I called to inquire about the reflash for the ECM for better mileage the service rep who no idea what I was talking about. As soon as Ratbuell recuperates and returns after his accident, I will follow up with him.

There's a thread regarding it in the Quick Board.

In march I demo rode an XT at Daytona bike week. I could not believe how smooth and comfortable it was. I bought mine in may and still think it is one of the best bikes on the market. Mine gets a consistent 48.7 miles per gallon around town or on a road trip and this is stock. I am getting close to 2000 miles on it now.

I have an '07 XB12X, demo'd the '08 XT and could not believe how smooth the power transitions were. The new injection system is noticeably better than mine and I am very satisfied with mine. The lower seat was nice too.

Well...you'll be waiting a long time for a 2009 in black, it's not offered.

For everyone with gas mileage problems... Make SURE you have the latest ECM software from Buell.

I unfortunately do not know how to tell if you have it or not. You pretty much have to get the dealer to put the latest flash on there, which assumes you're dealer knows what they are doing.

test rode the xt at march badness and two weeks later i was bringing one back up to greenville sc from tampa. i love the m2 and i love the ultra for what they are but the xt is an almost great in between bike. need stereo and cruise control for the interstate rides. those get pretty boring.

I'm still very interested in the XT12. I must sell my 2006 Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 first. I'll probably pick up a 2009 later this year. Summer is over in western,WA. 46 and fog as I type this. This site is a wealth of info. Hoping to see Buell address some of the issues like wheel bearings, BAS, and chafing wires. Thanx for reading. Peace.

If you are not riding your bike off road, the wheel bearings are way more durable and predictable.... BTW there is no chrome on the bike, you can ride her all year long. The 2008 in black is in the house.
Pray for a long indian summer!
See ya up on adv too .
