So... I was riding home from work yesterday and I started hearing a slight exhaust leak. Next thing I know the thing is screaming. Header sheared off right at the mount on the front head. Now I'm shopping for a replacement... Any suggestions on what I should do? Currently have a Supertrapp slip-on. Should I just replace the headers? Or do I buy a whole new exhaust (Race headers etc) Any advice? |

Take the headers off and find a decent welding shop and have it Tig welded. Stainless Steel BTW. To bad your not in my neck of the woods, at my shop about $25.00 welded, dressed and burnished. Twenty minutes of run time and nobody would know. Also most of the time when head pipes crack it is because its under stress/tension,so check your muffler mounts. Ill be pulling the headers off tonight after I get off of work. I'll try posting pics tomorrow. I did check the mounts, and the front urethane bushing is missing... again. Guess it's time to get the Y-mount retrofit kit. I know you haven't seen the headers yet, but with the damage so close to the end of the pipe, won't welding it possibly get in the way of the fitting? |

I just updated to the Y mount. The parts can be found on ebay pretty cheap. I got the y mount, regulator bracket, and a z bracket for about $35. When I went to disassemble the exhaust I noticed the front bushing and bolt were completely missing! Happened sometime in the last 2 rides. Replaced it just in time. |

A good TIG weldor with a low amperage machine should be able to weld 2 beer cans ends butted together and not burn thru. |

Hey guys, Just had the header welded on the S1 last night, Also going to the Y bracket. Mine lasted about 23,000 miles, Going to put it back together tonight. I made the bracket a bit bigger than stock, Hope it helps. If you like I could post some pics? Take care, Chuck Horton. |
