Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has developed a setting for 150 pounds? The manual only goes down to about 170.

Just wear 20 pounds of gear<sarcasm>

I weigh 155# but used the " <170# " settings with COLD weather adjustment.

A little mushy, but comfortable on the highway.

Just an FYI I'm sure most of you guys already know this, but the settings in the manual are your weight with all your gear on. I weight 155#, but with all my gear (helmet and leathers) I'm 170#. The 170# settings in the manual are a little stiff for me in cold weather, but seem about right when the climate is warmer.

My bike came to me with heavy settings (190-200 lb rider). At 165 lbs. I went with the factory settings for 170 lb. rider. Better, but for some aggressive canyon carving I increased the front spring preset one full turn. a little harsher ride but handling is better and not as much dive on braking. It also slowed down turn in slightly. Still experimenting though. I do not think you could actually make this bike handle badly on any settings. Just ride comfort.

You light weight guys are starting to make me feel fat again.(because I am)

I was happy when I found out that that the stock suspension was able to accommodate me without modification.

I weigh 245-250 plus gear so my settings are close to the 250-270# recommendations.

The only recommended setting that I have significantly changed is the front compression which is too soft if you do a lot of wheelies. Setting it a little heaver makes it a lot smoother when the front tire comes back down. Plus it seems to make heavy use of the front brake better for me.(it doesn`t want to do stopies as easy)

I am about 190-195 with gear and I found the factory settings very nice. This is a coincidence, but I am excited at the prospect to see if the recommended settings are an improvement. Now that I have 2,700 miles on the factory settings, I feel that there is a good baseline to compare any future suspension changes.

After setting the bike up for your weight from the manuel. You should decrease the front preload by one turn instead and increase rear preload by 1. Give the front compression a half turn and the rebound a 1/4 turn clockwise. Go ahead and increase the rear rebound 1/4 also. I think you will like it for the twistys. A place to start anyway.

Art (Bigeasy), thanks much, I will try that probably on a ride Tuesday with better weather after making those changes today. Easy and fun trying different settings. What have you found this does to the handling? It seems like it would be a little stiffer with quicker turn in which I really like. Bob

Also I added the front radial brake master off the xbrr. Like it alot better then stock. 91.00 bucks from Hals.

Update from Bob: Art(Bigeasy), I finally got a chance to really thrash (up to 7500 rpm's), in the canyons/twisties today with temps. in the high 60's and dry roads. Son Mike on his SV1000 is having a time trying to keep up. Just fact. Your setup is working absolutely great. Might just leave it there. Guys, take note, this is/was a great place to start with your suspension if you are anywhere near 170 lbs., as Art has said.
