Hey Mike, look at that camera again around 4pm our time. Bet you see a WHOLE different kind of traffic! 2pm on a Tues isn't bad, depending on which way your headed!

Plus that camera is on the south side, whole different animal up here on the north side.

There is food in Dalonega as well. Had some great italian food there!

There will be food at Deal's Gap, and I always eat lunch and dinner at TWO.

Your camping neighbors would probably prefer a nice chowder to chili. : D

You guys want a really epic ride to good food? Let me know, we can take the gravel roads through the woods, through a couple of water crossings, then hit the Richard B Russell over to Helena. Great food and good atmosphere! The ride is the best part though!

There is a Helen and a Helena in Georgia, and I know you meant HELEN, the faux Bavarian tourist destination located near Suches.

Believe me, you don't want to go to HELENA and back... it's hundreds of miles away in the flatlands.

The T.W.O. website just mentioned breakfast under the amenities button, didn't say anything about lunch or dinner. Good to know. How are the local prices?

They have breakfast every day, but I think they only do lunch and supper on weekends. The prices are about what you would expect... not cheap, but not outrageous. The food at the lodge was great the last time I was there in the October. Even if you don't eat at the lodge, there are hundreds of places to eat within a 20 mile radius of TWO, so you wont go hungry. If you want road food, you can get all the Beanie Weenies, Slim Jims and potato chips you'd want at the BP station just down the street from TWO.

I recommend the steaks and burgers at Wylies in Dahlonega. The downstairs part is where the lounge is and that's where you'll want to eat, not in the upper restaurant part where the teetotalers eat. I go there everytime I make it to Dahlonega and I'm never disappointed.

Yes there is food at TWO. If they are busy, or you don't get your order in, you will wait for it though....

Dalonaga has the Brewing Company and the place DJ mentioned (DJ, we have to do that this year... missed it last year. I should be there til Mon).

And for the love of god don't ask for the egg special with out the spinach. Took over an hour to get my breakfast that I did not wait around for. I think they were taking the spinach out of the egg mix piece by piece.

And check out time is 10 o'clock! Don't show up at noon thinking you are going to check out.
Thats lunch time! "We are taking care of the lunch crowd now, you will need to wait"

Needless to say I called the next day and gave them my Visa # over the phone.

A handful of people providing services to 100+ people at the same time?

I think they run a pretty tight ship.

Kind of like a place in Colorado a few years ago at one gathering, nice breakfast joint, just ask for the special and take it as they make it and you'll be fine and on your way happy and fast.

I think if I make this event I'll just bring along my bicycling panel to wear on my back:

During March Badness you will have to wait, very patiently to get your food at T.W.O.. But it is WORTH the wait!

We may have picked up a couple more interested parties at our club meeting tonight. If the weather holds out on that weekend we could have a pretty good contingent coming down.

Since we are trailering I was planning on making a big pot of chili, some stew and stuff and freezing it. Put that on the stove when we get back from a long ride and it would be time for some relaxation. I like to support places like TWO but if we overload them for food some good old fashioned oatmeal will get us by for awhile.

We offered to bring Gearhead's 1125 down to break it in for him but I don't think he will take us up on it.

OK,
I am looking into making the trip out for the MB V. I am trying to decide between....

Hauling the bike in the truck out and riding the weekend.

or

Riding the Uly the 887 miles out and riding the weekend.

To help me out, if say I was to have some issues with the Uly, would you say there is enough Buell shade tree mechs to help get the bike back up and running.

Any thoughts.....

Iamike-

Thank you for making a good point. As a camper, I also should be prepared to completely cover my nutritional requirements. I have a more precarious calculation: diabetes.

If I don't cover my metabolic needs, I'll be suffering. As much as I have enjoyed the delectable grub at TWO, I have had to wait over an hour to get my plate. But I slept too late, and tend to take a little more time to get going.

Get in line early to buy breakfast, WELL worth the $$$, but FIRST COME FIRST SERVED.

I should probably pack my milk and cereal.

would you say there is enough Buell shade tree mechs to help get the bike back up and running.

There are enough wrench benders to build an entire bike from scratch just from the spare parts on hand.

They can tune your ECM, strap on a new tire, or replace a broken clutch cable.

Unless you have something catastrophic happen, there are VERY talented folks around.

The real question is you. 887 miles ain't a light "jaunt". I'd truck it down so that you are fresh. You don't want to limit your enjoyment of some of the greatest roads around by being all sore and Monkey Butty.

Plus, if something DOES happen that is catastrophic, you have a way home. At Buelltoberfest, I had to fight a dying stator and voltage regulator. I could very easily have been stranded. I was only 260 miles from home. Being 887 miles away and stranded would suck.

You know the only reason I am coming is to meet you and your crew. I am also hoping to catch some good rides with others.

Thanks for the heads up on the truckin it, I really like to ride my trips, but you're right... I should be fresh to keep up with you guys through mtn roads I have never ridden before.

your post is causing me to reconsider riding the 386 miles each way. Im not deaf to the voice of reason, but am I just being pussified here?

Id love to say that I rode it, but I can see how having my truck to carry gear, tools, BREWS, bike etc. might be a good idea.

Should I shut up and grab a maxi pad, or what... This will be my first long trip on the bike and I want to be smart about it.

I used to whine about trailer queens until ChadHargis and I hauled out to Deal's and Helen. It was really nice to feel fresh when I got on the bike. It was also great to be able to climb into a nice cool quiet truck for the ride home. I'd truck it if you have the opportunity.

You don't have to eat 42 pounds of broccoli to get to the dessert. You can skip right to the good parts.

I'm only 250 miles from Suches, or I'd truck it.
