I'm starting to research buying a used XB and have a question for the group. Are the frame sliders easily removable? It seems a lot of people buy them a little late. Normally having them already installed would be a good thing but if they are concealing frame damage I'd sure like to know about it before making a decision on a bike. I was hoping someone might have some advise on what to do if I come across a used bike with them already installed. Thanks.

If they were installed properly, meaning the frame was prepped correctly, they can be a real bitch! But I've seen them come off rather easily if the directions are not followed!!

the frame damage would not be your only sign of damage from being dropped. unless they took the time to replace the engine casings/exhaust/swing arm. i think it is the right side that is the thicker side of the frame (if it applies to your perspective purchase)

i would not buy any vehicle without a meticulous eye-balling, especially if i don't know/trust the guy. just good practice

Both sides are the same.

There is a hole going through the left side on the earlier models.

The bottom/rear of the swingarm usually gets nicked too.

If the bike falls on the right side, as an example... the swingarm, footpeg, header and brake lever will all get knicked up some (as well as the mirror on R models). Don't ask me how I know.

BTW - the frame slider never touched the ground.

If I were looking at a bike with frame pucks on it I would ask that the owner remove them. If I was selling a bike I would remove them so people can really see the bike. Really, it is only $40 for a set of pucks. Small peanuts when a bike is selling for several thousands of $$.

I dropped my 03 9R - left side, 10-15 mph, hit algae water and front washed so fast my hand never left the grip. Moved left mirror, scuffed slightly; scuffed clutch lever end; scuffed bar-end; scuffed left turn signal; broke shift lever. Neither frame nor plastic bodywork were even touched.
