Hey - the Service Manual says 2.5 qts. - including the filter. Every time I do an oil change the dip stick says to add more. Anybody out there in XB land experience that same thing? I don't want to run my engine with too little or too much oil. ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/dunno.gif) |

Did you warm the eng up to operating temps first before checking? VERY important |

Kedo, I've seen the same thing on my Uly. I can put in exactly 2.5 quarts, ride the bike for 3-5 miles and check it, and it will be at the bottom of the operating range. I generally add enough to bring it up to the mid-point on the dipstick, and it seems to hold this level very well. |

The dipstick on these things arn't the most accurate. Every time I add enough oil to get to the stick's mark I end up with oil in my airbox. Next oil change I do I'm gonna put in exactly 2.5 quarts then ride it for 10-20 miles to get it up to temp. Then I'll immediately check the oil level on the stick and where ever the oil level is at I will make a score or mark on the dipstick to let me know that that is the true level I want. |

I have had the same issue. I am going to do the perfect 2.5 quart thing and see where I end up. It also matters how much you put into the oil filter. I don't think my dipstick is accurate (may just be genetics). I don't think my bike is burning oil, but I do think it is sucking it in through the intake track. |

I do the same thing that Hughlysses does and it works out fine. |

You must check the oil level when the engine is warm. Otherwise it will read low. |

Run the Engine until he fan comes on before checking. 3-5 miles is not enough. I usually do a 20 - 30 minute ride after putting in exactly 2.5 qts. Then check the level. Mine will read 1/4 - 1/2 above the fill line. |

OK, OK, OK... I DO check the oil level when the engine is at OPERATING temperature. DUH!!! It still reads low. That's why I started this thread. Sorry for inadvertently leaving that out of my first post. Anyhow, I put in the prescribed 2.5 qts and ran around for about 15 minutes. The engine was definitely at normal temperature and the level was about half way between full and the point on the dipstick where it says to add 150ml. So, I added about that and considered it acceptable. I know enough not to run with too much oil. Thanks everybody for your input!!!!!!! ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/bigwink.gif) |

I am glad to see that I am not the only one having problems with checking oil level. The oil level seems very touchy. as little as 4 ozs. makes a big difference ! |
