Paul,

Slimy Crud Run is not likely for me due to scheduling conflicts. I'll show up if things change, but not looking good right now. Part of the problem is that I plan to attend the InsidePass Road America on Tuesday 10/9/07 and I'm having a lot of trouble freeing up time.

While i have been quite for some time, my school(yes school) classes have fallen on the same day as the meetings, and there classes i have to have, come next summer i should be done, but you never know
Either way, if there is anybody that would like some fire wood, i have some extra, and your welcome to stop by and pick up a face cord or so
Once its gone its gone
Mixed hardwood, nothing fancy, but it burns, most is seasoned, but some is not
Please PM for more info, and no need to go by it at the local 7-11

You guys who couldn't come to Road America for Track Day missed out on some of the best riding ever. The Windy City Club was represented by John, Kurt, Tim, Greg, Mark, Zac & I. We all got the chance to ride the 1125. The best word I can use to describe that bike is: WOW!

The power band and braking ability are awesome. The handling is smooth and predictable. For those of us used to tube frame, long wheel base Buells, the bike was like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes...it just felt right. I got to ride it three times. If you ever get a chance to ride one, take advantage of it.

As for the rest of the day, Tim, Kurt & John tied for the coveted "See How Many Times You Can Lap the Old Guy in the Brown Leather Jacket Award".

Unfortunately, due to the total lack of respecting their elder, the award had to be withdrawn.

Had a great time...wish you were there.

I had a great time.... even with my "leave the track and tip over in the gravel" mishap. (the group is giving me credit for a 1/2 crash on this one, not a full crash). I may be in the market for a lightning version of the 1125r when it comes out, although I don't think I'll ever sell my X1. Thanks to all.

I need a new set of tires for my Buell Ulysses which is approaching 20K miles and still going strong.

I've had 4 rears (about 5K miles each) and 2 fronts (about 10K miles each) using the OEM Dunlop D616's ($100 frt/$125 rear) and am ready to try something different. The D616 front tire always starts cupping badly at 8-10K miles despite the fact there is lots of tread depth left.

I'm looking at either the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT or the Pirelli Scorpion Sync for my next set of tires.

Great article on the Pilot Power 2CT:
http://www.motorcycle.com/products/michelin-pilot- power-2ct-12882.html

Per Greg's recommendation good prices on the Michellin Pilot Power 2CT at Tireexpress.com. I also found the best prices on the Pilot Power 2CTs at motorcycleproshop.com. $113 front/$145 rear.

I hear from my Scorpion Sync ($102 frt/$129 rear) riding friends that I should get mileage similar to my Dunlop D616s from the Syncs (about 10K miles front, 5K miles rear).

Question: I don't know anyone who has had the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's for a long time and didn't find any mileage quotes on Badweb for the 2CTs. Does anyone have experience with how many miles the Pilot Power 2CT's will last? I don't want to drop much below the 10K mile front/5K mile rear mileage which I already get from the Dunlop D616's as tires are not cheap and these 2CTs are already a price premium above the D616s and the Scorpion Syncs.

Thanks for any advice you can provide,
Marc

Hey Everyone,
Sure wish I could have been there to ride the 1125 on that world class track, that must have been quite an experience. I'd like to hear some more about it and your reactions to it.
Slimy Crud was really, good, just lots of miles for one day. Seriuously sore behind. I have that one group photo that I will have here soon.

Tires? I've been shopping as well. Need a new rear already. I'm pretty sure I have decided on this. <http://underbid.com/cgi-bin/underbid/underbid.cgi? action=display&item=1061992615&seller=mawonline> Pirelli Diablo Corsa III, also dual compound, but not quite as much as the Michelin. Any one have any experience or info. about them?
Now, where to go to get it mounted. Conrads gets $80 to mount, but I'm hoping to find something more reasonable. Where to you guys go to have them mounted? I'm planning on brining the rear wheel off the bike and the loose tire.

Nice photos from Vegas Marc. How does the Ninja do on those gravel roads?

Marc,

I have no info regarding mileage expectancy for michelin 2CT. My understanding of the 2CT is that it has very soft outside edge, with center compound being the same as pilot sport. If this is the case, the rear pilot sport on my SV650 has only lasted about 5K miles (the center is worn flat past the treads)....I'd expect a lot less on your more powerful Uly. If you want mileage, why not consider the Michelin Pilot ROAD Street/Sport Touring? Bomber has them on his bike and seemed to have no problems finding grip this weekend.

Thanks for sharing your tire knowledge. Based upon your advice and some additional research I see the Michelin Pilot ROAD 2CT as a better choice for me than the Michelin Pilot POWER 2CT. Both of my rear Dunlop D616's have worn bald in the center so I'm a good candidate for the 2CT harder center compound (as would anyone in Illinois).

I've eliminated the Michelin Pilot POWER 2CT as it is more of a "track day" tire than I need and will wear faster than I want.

The Michelin Pilot Road 2CTs are the most expensive of all tires I'm looking at (drat), but they will last approximately 1200 miles longer than the Scorpion Syncs or Dunlop D616's so money well spent. I found the Michelin Pilot Road 2CTs for $134 front/$159 rear at kneedraggers.com.

1). Check out this discussion on Uly tires as it was helpful for me in narrowing my search:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=741843#POST741843

2). Your Scorpion Sync Rear is about worn out? How many total miles are you going to get out of your rear Sync? Can you estimate how long the Sync Front will last?

3). The Ninja 650R ain't no Uly and when the pavement got bumpy and the road turned to dirt the Ninja 650R sucked big time and rattled my entire body....but what can you expect from a 2" suspension travel Rice rocket? I'd still do it again as I went off pavement for a total of 5 miles on my 400 plus mile Desert excursion on this trip. Next time I hit Vegas, I will reserve a more off pavement capable bike (Ulysses @ lvhd.com or BMW GS1200 @ bmwoflasvegas.com) and spend more time off pavement. Reserving two weeks ahead of my trip limited my options so if you do this reserve farther in advance to get the bike you really want.

Correction...Man those Pilot Road 2CT's are expensive. I looked up the wrong price on my post above for the rear @ kneedraggers.com:
Front 120/70 ZR-17 @ $134
Rear 180/55 ZR-17 @ $173 corrected
Total $307 before shipping and any taxes...ouch!

Pilot Roads rock!

Also, I have a feeling the corss-section will help with the pesky standing-up-while-trail-braking event thingie

grip is where you find it
