How would people rate the available mufflers/pipes for, Power, Noise, and Quality? I just installed a Wileyco slip-on, and havn't finished jetting yet, but it seems medium - loud, and very good quality, ( looks, fit, ease of install etc.) I'm thinking it MAY be too loud for me, (nice bark) but suspect it's quieter than the best power system out there. So I'm asking! Thank You. |

my non-scientific 2 cents... Supertrapp:ugly, poor fit (I had a 3 piece model), tinny sound, never got the mid range right. Vance and Hines: excellent fit/sound,need to re pack, rear mount craked at 15k. |

Personal experience New Supertrapp/Buell Slip-on...great build quality. Has a high pitched pop on top of the growl. I think this if from the pressure pulses hitting the end cap. D&D...GREAT build quality. Nice and deep. Lots of midrange. |

I agree with Hoot. The new Supertrapp is very good. Very solid mounting system. Nice sound with solid end cap, nice bark with the open version. |

I've got a D&D and I'm quite happy with it so far (about a month). Good fit (a few rubber mallet adjustments made it perfect), great quality, great power - especially in the midrange, and excellent sound (although quite loud so if that's a concern for you, this is definately not the pipe for you. |

When you run the open cap on the Supertrapp do you have to remove the discs? |

Psycho- No, Evidently you can do tuning even with the open end cap. I run mine with 16 disks and the open cap.

The Two brothers slip on is very similar to the V&H in size and power production, is a little louder tha the V&H. Rear mounting seems a little flimsy, but it's been holding up just fine. Not crazy about the front springs that hold the inlet pipe to the can, but that's a common mounting system. The newest supertrapp is very well thought out. I like it. Tunable, solid mounting. A little large and heavy relative to many others, though. The Stainless Specialties is loud but purty. But if you want it quieter they'll acomodate you with a smaller diameter core and/or outlet. |

Al, Did you ever finish up on a redesigned rear hanger for the Boss? I'm thinking I'll tweak the spare Supertrapp mount I've go laying around. The SS Boss looks great an definately has a bark to it. Performs better down low than my Supertrapp. Brad |

Brad, Yea, kind of. I was doing it as a consulting job for Donn Griffin. The one on my bike was the first prototype, which looks great and has held up well for 7K miles. I've had 5 more built that are even stronger, with a welded in gusset...probably overkill. Unfortunately, they depend upon a semi-custom T-bolt clamp from Clampco with a removeable Tbolt. The design is not really custom, just the particular size is a non-stock item so you have to buy them in quantity to get a decent price (i.e in qty 2, they're $25 each, but in quantity 25 they're something like 6 bucks each). Donn was working on a custom header/muffler that he was going to market when his job went away and put all his plans on hold. I'll send him some mail. The 5 prototypes are sitting here on my shelf, and could be used with a number of different 4-ish" diameter mufflers. If Donn is willing, we could make the order for 20 clamps and sell the 5 prototypes with 4 clamps (needs 2 each, so two spares) for a reasonable price to badwebbers that want them. They're WAY cleaner than the stupid clamp ring that stainless specialties provides (also used on the early Suptrapps), and are better than the supertrapp/buell design because they don't use the Z-bracket, and one can replace a failed Tbolt strap. Did you know the Supertrapp design (built by clampco, BTW) requires the Tbolt strap spot weld to be made AFTER it's fed thru the bracket? Bogus. Stay tuned. Al |

Al, Thanks TONS for the update. Unfortunately, I do know about the Tbolt clamp post assembly spot weld thing. I broke one last year on the way to Colorado. Found a Tbolt clamp but there's no way to put it in. That's why I have a "spare" laying around. I would be interested in one of the clamps. I also have a couple of buddies up here in MN that have Boss pipe that probably would be interested also. Thanks Brad |

here's a few pics..I sent a message to Donn.... The gusset is supposed to prevent parallelogramming and fatigue, but the original is holding up nicely without it. I wonder if I've made it worse due to weld stress and the locating notch stress risers. Its also less pretty with the gusset, because of distortion near the weld. The original polished up quite nicely with little work. I apologize if I've posted these here before, I couldn't remember if I did. Al |

Being as since I no longer have the M2 that my D-Boss is/was attached to. I need some measurements from some one. like the body length: |

Loki I have one in my garage, off the bike. Let me know exactly which dimensions you need. Just the "muffler length where the 2.5" welds on? I'll pop a pic and annotate for you. BJ (Message edited by bluzm2 on May 25, 2003, %time) |

As I look at Al's design I am so sure that it is the answer to rear hanger problems...and looks bitchen too. Thanks Al for bringng this back up. You did a great job and it would be a shame if they only sat on a shelf somewhere. Stainless Specialties does not have any Buell knowledge. When Rek quit the muffler business they had no info to pass along to buyers. They will make mufflers for me on a custom order basis. The Daytona Boss is not a glass pack but a ceramic core with straight through design. The Race Boss on my bike is bullet proof. (except for the rear hanger that Al has built a replacemnt for) Hangers were their only problem. (Message edited by seeeu911 on May 26, 2003, %time) |

Bluz, Thanks! Plug the numbers for the body the inlet and outlet overall lengths. A couple good pics would also be welcome. My S1 is calling out for a boss as I now have a S1W header sitting on the floor. |

Regarding the rear hangers, I'll post some picture of the new ones (rather than the CAD models) when I get back home to San Diego. I'm in Montreal all this week. They were the prototypes, and as such, were built in small quantities to support the design process. It's up to Donn to determine what they should sell for. I'll dig up what it cost to build the 5 prototypes, send to Donn, he can figure out what to sell them for. They're more expensive than they should be because of the small lot cost. Also, just so ya know, they aren't polished, but are stainless and are easily polished. We'll also need to make a clamp order from Clampco to work with them, so I'll dig that quote up as well. Stay tuned.... Al

I'd be interested in one of those mounts as well, if it would fit a Supertrapp IDS muffler? Henrik |
