A company called "Run-N-Lites" makes a kit to convert the front and/or rear turn signals on various BMW models into combination running lights and turn signals. I'd like to be able to do this with my XB12Ss to make the bike more conspicuous. Has anyone else tried this? Are there pre-packaged kits available? I'm more interested in the front lights; for rear visibility I'm usually wearing a Conspicuity Vest and that thing lights up like Las Vegas at night... |

Well not the same brand, but similar function. I put a Kisan SM-1 onto my M2, and plugged in the turn signal wires. They market a model specifically for Buell, but I didn't notice what years. This turns the front and/or rear turn signals into running lights that still function as turn signals. I did both, but California doesn't allow yellow rear, so I had to change to red rear turn signals (clear lens, red bulbs.) Doing this though removed the 'auto-cancel' feature which is the more highly touted feature of the Kisan unit. Since I was used to manually cancelling, this is ok. I've read that running lights are one of the best safety features for a motorcycle, especially in heavy traffic. That vest you mention is also a good one too. I also usually run my high beam on during the day time too, per various recommendations. |

Damn... just checked their applications chart and they only list the tube-frame models of Buells... |

An update: I used the "Contact Us" link on their website and simply asked if they had any models that would work with the Fuel Framers. Here is their response in it's entirety: Sorry about that. We are in the middle of updating the database. For both Ulysses and Lightning models, the SM-1 signalMinder works. Instead of typical 3-pin connector on the bike there are three separate tab connectors. http://www.kisantech.com/view_product.php?product=SM-1 |

I wired a relay in each side. The power has the bulb on unless the blinker is activated, then the front blinks off when the rear comes on. The only problem is that the blink rate is fast since the flasher thinks a bulb is burned out. |

why not just mount a 75 cent LED in the stock turn signal housing, with a 330 ohm series resistor, and run a 3rd wire out to the tail lite connector a few inches away? you would then have running lites, built-in, and the whole operation would cost less than 4 dollars. |
