I went to Kragen to get stuff for my first service on my City Cross. I got Mobile 1 15w/50 synthetic. But I saw Mobile 1 10w/40 motorcycle specific oil.The motorcycle specific oil is more, about $3 more. Also got the Mobile 1 75w/90 for the tranny. Now after reading some topics here I'm really confused.Should I return the gear oil,and what should I use for the primary? Is the motorcycle specific oil better for me to use?It does say it lubricates transmission and clutches.Man after reading the other discussion here about Mobile1 gear oil,I'm confused.I just don't wanna void my warranty since it's a new bike. Drop the m1 gear oil. The HD Syn 3 is good, Mobil 1 1-50 is also good for both cavities. |

Your XB tranny for 05 is far smoother then the Tuber trannies. On a tuber tranny, M1 Gear Oil made a HUGE difference in shifting quality. On my 9sx, there was only a very slight improvement from mobil 1. There has been speculation here that M1 gear oil somehow hurts stators, or the yellow metals in the tranny. I had my Cyclone transmission completely apart on my workbench after 10k plus miles of M1 Gearoil, and I can tell you for a fact the "yellow metals" were fine. There was also speculation that the M1 gear oil somehow hurts stators. There has been no explanation for that theory either. I am running M1 gear oil in my primary now. If I switch, it will be because I found something cheaper or easier to get that will also work, no other reason. That being said, the new trannies are so much nicer that you don't see a big difference going to mobil 1 gear oil like you used to see on the tubers, so if you want to play it safe and use the same full synthetic 20w50 in both engine and primary, your life will be simple and your bike will work fine. |

Has anyone use 20-50 Golden Spectro 4 in their engine or trans? |
