Okay so i am newb.. I just replaced my primary cover due to a lay down.. no injuries.. just cracked the case.. so now, what kind of fluid should I use and how much? I'd rather be stock as I can about it, but if someone has some ideas that would be great. I know now in the swingarm, I use Sync3 by HD. Do I use the same in the primary? How much? I mean I will never forget when it went down and cracked the cover.. HOLY $h|t!!! It was like brains exploded! lol just a big mess. But thanks for all your help!!!! I posted this in Knowledge Vault, but no fast response.. Sowwy! Thanks! |

Dmextreme, Syn3 will work fine but lots of Buell riders have had excellent results with Mobil-1 75W-90 synthetic gear oil. Whatever you put in, fill it by the book. It won't take the full quart unless you get ALL the old oil out (which you probably did by removing the cover). Overfilling will result in poor shifting. |

sorry i hadnt gotten back with a response on that. damn i even thought about it the other day. anyway if you wana stay stock go with the sportstrans. but, i personally plan on trying some syn stuff. was planing on the amsoil 20/50 for the motor and 75/90 in the primary. taking into account the benefit of the new job now i might just try the harley syn stuff first. all im really wanting is alittle easier shifting which others seem to have accomplished with the synthetic. |

Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90 made my 9R shift like butter compared to the Sportrans stuff. |

So then 1 quart in the primary.. okay.. so another dumb question.. is this separate from what you put into the swingarm? I poured a quart directly into the primary from the inspection cover. But I still have some in the swingarm, which is pretty much full. I mean, the more I know the better.. I just want to make sure i did that right. This is my mechanics class, this forum is. LOL.. Thanks |

swingarm and primary are separate oil reservoirs unless something is VERY wrong. |

If you overfill the primary, you're likely going to find oily funk all over the bike from the breather. Read the manual about the fill level... and yeah, a quart is just a teensy bit too much. Can't go wrong with Syn3 |
