Hi.Where can I get the snap ring pliers J-5586 to remove the transmission retaining rings? It's not that easy to remove them without that special tool.I'm also looking for any other used (JIMS)tools for tubers.Just give pm. Regards,Ralph |

Ralph, I went to Sears and bought a Craftsman Snap-ring Plier kit for $30. Worked fine, when I had to remove my trans and install a Baker shift drum kit last month. Check them out, they come with several size tips to handle most any job you would need for your Buell. |

Bill, I would look for it,but there is no Craftsman in Germany. The inexpensive snap ring plier sets I could buy here in similar shops are just good for the junkyard. Btw.To replace the shift drum, you didn't have to remove the snap rings on main or countershaft. They differ to regular snap rings. To remove them without the right tool, is very annoying. Ralph, I had my transmission out last year and there is a giant snap ring on the output shaft bearing. You will need heavy duty snap ring pliers. I've owned various junk sets in the past and then went out and bought another set, so I have several in the toolbox. My favorite ones are made by KD tools. NAPA sells them with their own name on the package too. Let me run out to the gargae to get the model numbers.... Extra-Large size is KD 3152 Medium size is KD 3151 They are convertable (they do external and internal rings by flipping a pin on the pivot... cool isn't it?) |
