Pardon me for sounding like an eternal optimist but just how frickin' cool is it when a motorcycle company is so closely connected, (albeit with the de facto "buffers" (yeah, Seantor..."buffers" - quote: Clemenza) that that a complain from one of 10,000 owners bangs the needle agin the peg and sets smart folks ciphering to find the cause. I'll say it again....I came 20 years ago for the motorcycle and stayed for the people. Court |

Al, I'm encouraged by your post. What I noticed with both pairs that I bought was that the protective paper wasn't applied properly leaving the edge of the tape exposed. With my first pair, I accept that I may have compromised the glue with overspray. The second set though were not painted. Despite following Buell's instructions to the letter, the edges lifted within an hour of installation. I didn't pursue it with the local dealer, they wouldn't care anyway. If the factory does do something about this, please let us know as I really would like to get a decent pair. |

Like many on this board, this has been a cool thread to follow. I'm just pretty darn impressed at how well these things worked on Wycked's bike. Didn't we have a few BadWebbers whose early XB's were TOTALED because of frame dents caused by minor spills? The pucks are a pretty cool solution to the problem. |

I believe we do yes... I about had a heart attack when I dropped my 12R ina parking lot at about 1/4 of a mile per hour. I was certain I would pick it up and see scratches in the frame. I got lucky... I picked up a set from Daves as soon as he got them... |

Just adding to the list here. On wednesday, I got to work and found the left puck missing.(How can you find something if its missing?) Anyway, the right one came off with only a slight amount of pressure. I prepped the area with alcohol per the instructions. Temp was in the 80's and I waited until the next day to ride. The had been on about a week. Pending any word from the factory I will get another set sometime in the future but will probably use something additional for adhesion. Probably two or three tubes of "Gorilla Snot" on each one so that when the puck leaves, it will take the section of frame with it.. |

And for the factory lurkers that aren't lurking here and not gathering data... my pucks also had the buckled paper backing, but stuck fine. The backing was lifted in the middle of the puck, not the edges though. They were an early batch though. Should be an easy kludge with that foam two sided carpet tape type stuff. |

What I do when I install them and I've done a bunch is I first press and the white backing down with my thumbs so the sticky stuff is stuck in place real good. I then wipe the frame down with whatever I have handy, I have used windex, spray bike cleaner and other various products(yes, I know the instructions say alcohol, I rarely follow directions) I then hold them up, mark the frame with a pencil. I then carefully peel the backing off, making sure the sticky stuff stays stuck to the puck. Line them up, stick them on, press on them really hard for a couple minutes and then do the other side. Haven't had any fall of yet. Maybe they have a shelf life? I think it is important to stick the sticky stuff to the puck before you peel the backing off. I just checked and they have moved the off backorder date AGAIN to the 15th. I only have about 20 people waiting for them! |

I have had two sets now. The first set I put on my 03 9S and they stuck fine with out any problems. The second set I put on my 04 12R and the edges are not stuck very well at all. They will not come off but I will get some two sided emblem tape to stick the corners on. The first set I put on at 80 to 90 deg temps and the second I put on at around 40 deg temps. I put both sets on per the destructions so go figure. LOL. |

I'm having the same problem. I bought my pucks last weekend, followed the destructions religiously, and they are both peeling off from the bottom up. I'm going to buy some emblem tape and see if I can patch them up with that. The left side one never wanted to stay on from the start, no matter how long I held it down. |

I brought mine back to the dealer after I had the exact same problem. The rt. side was perfect, the left puck was it's evil twin and deformed. The dealer will replace them but it's been 3 weeks. What the puck! It ticks me off to spend money on parts and to get shoddy quality from a manufacturer like Buell. Some guy who owns the company producing them in la-la land is sitting fat, eating a steak and drinking a margarita on the sales of these defective pieces laughing his arse off. Buell should step up to the plate and change manufactures or instill some type of quality control on them. Lets see, if I owned the company I'd probably have some of my employees monitoring this web site for constructive criticism but that would be too rational. Makes me mad with their branding strategy and loyalty that they try to bring to the consumer which is a joke. |

I'm just glad this site is here, and that buell stands by there product. I just wish HD would treat this product as a real company instead of hiding the bikes in the dark corners of the shops(with exception to a few) I mean HD pushes there I'M A COOL GUY v-rod in every ones face looking for a performance motorcycle untill you bypass all the misinformed sales people and say BUELL I'M HERE FOR A BUELL!!! just some of my thoughts though |

The frame pucks are backordered and in high demand. I doubt the owner of the supplier company making them is sitting back eating steak, I bet he is sitting at work late on a weekend, after pulling another 70 hour week, thinking he needs another problem like he needs a hole in his head, and wishing he was home in bed so he could be there when his family wakes up for once in a month. Is that decal tape thick (like the foam carpet tape)? Or is it a membrane? Agreeing it's annoying to buy a new part and have to putz with it, but in the greater scope of things, even frame pucks that need some tweaking on install are a hell of a good deal for the money, and are a huge plus for the bike. The things are really well engineered otherwise. Unless there is something tricky about it, a trip up to Autozone or Home Depot for a $5 solution is not a huge deal in the whole scope of things. The factory started working on a solution within 24 hours of the first real rumors coming in from the field. Thats pretty darn good. |

The Pucks would be a great buy even if they didn't come with adhesive. IMO. |

Sheesh! I followed the instructions and now I have no idea how I'm going to get them off to put the CF frame covers on. I even tried sliding it on the street and all it did was scuff it up, break a turn signal lens and gave me a sore butt. |

I got a very early pair and they are still working great, even after some fuel spills. I do agree with Reep that the sticky tape was not bonded to the center of the puck on the puck side, but I figured that was by design. I used the standard ratio isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) to prep as in the instructions. xbolt12 |

Partial update: Buell has the pucks I returned, and the preliminary visual investigation says that they aren't being assembled right. Something changed. Don't know what, don't know when, but they're digging deeper. A local customer came by a few weeks back, had wheelied over backwards and snapped off the LP part of the pasta strainer, but otherwise had no damage. He put the 9031 LP Relocator on at that time, and I advised him to put the frame pucks on ASAP. He bought them on the spot, we installed them, they went on reasonably well (I used lacquer thinner instead of alcohol). They were from the same batch. He stopped by this week, only 1 hour after going down at about 40Mph on the 91 freeway. Had a pretty good slide, but both him and his bike faired very well, all things considered. destroyed his CRG mirror, scraped up his header a bit, trashed front turn signal, broken stock passenger peg (the LSL rider pegs held up very nicely). We replaced a few parts, added axle sliders front and rear, and got him on his way. Here is what his right side puck looks like: He certainly doesn't think these pucks suck. They saved his frame for sure. Given the current status of these pucks, this may be an inopportune time to introduce these, but the CF frame puck covers are done and are in stock. They came out splendidly. They do make the puck slightly more rigid, but they are thin enough that they will easily self destruct upon impact. It is possible that as they self destruct, the edges of the puck could possibly lightly scratch the paint on the frame a little at the perimeter, but I think this is unlikely and do not believe that structural damage could possibly occur, they are too thin to transmit enough load for that. They attach with very thin VHB tape to the frame pucks around the perimeter. Initial cost is a bit higher than I would have liked, but it is the cost of quality. I will however sell individual right or left pucks to owners that have a crash for less than 1/2 the cost of the set, provided that they can show that they bought the first set (i.e., no fair trying to buy just a left, then just a right, to get them cheaper ) I think they look marvelous. As much as I like the performance of the Buell frame pucks, they are aesthetically a bit lacking as they do look like big plastic lumps on the side of the bike. I had them on the bike at homecoming, ask anyone that was there of their impressions. Al |

Frame Puck update: The "problem" didn't appear to be a particularly large one. Of the LOTS of people I shipped pucks to from that same batch, I heard from 3 directly that they had serious adhesion problems. Others chimed in here that they also had problems, but I could not attribute their failures to pucks sold from me from that batch. Many others were sold from that batch that I have not heard anything back on. The fact that I got even three complaints in the same timeframe is significant, however, because up until that week, I had never received a single such complaint. Coincidence? Not sure. The factory has done some testing, and further testing and/or product improvements may occur as a result if warranted. Buell has reacted appropriately from all I've seen. At this point, I don't think we have a widespread problem here. The three people that contacted me with adhesion issues now have pucks on the way to them. If you bought any from me and have had an adhesion problem, please let me know. I have a few sets that Buell sent to me for warranty replacement, and I will happily provide those to anyone that got them from me and are having a problem. Let me know if you haven't already. If you had a similar problem but did not get them from me, contact the dealer you got them from to get a replacement. Pucks have been on serious back order from Buell for a while. I suspended shipments during the resolution period, and didn't order more until I had warm fuzzy's that the issue was well under control. I am comfortable with the current situation, have ordered a ton more, and will start shipping as soon as get them in again. Thanks for your patience. Al |

Oh yea, Buell, and particularly Bruce Champion, have been great to deal with on this. As mentioned earlier in this thread, don't underestimate how cool it is that the factory is listening to us, through MANY channels. Al |
