Yeah I am another of the unfortinutes that has defective frame pucks. A day after they were installed the left side puck pealed off!

I only hope that American Sport Bike will take them back.

So anyone else think that doing some welding to fit the Racing Motorcycles.com sliders seems to be less hassell at this point? At least we know they wrok, the FX teams use them.

IF "PROPERLY" installed and time taken to thoroughly clean the area prior to installation, the "Frame Pucks" themselves do what they are suppose to...Protect Your Frame! There are plenty other adhesives to fix the small corners that do not exactly hold perfectly.

Your Buell Frame pucks are crap. Mine look great and are so stuck, I doubt I could peel 'em off.

I, based on talking to folks at homecoming, tend to agree with the YOUR portion of the above. The frame pucks, by Buell engineers and owners, have been universally applauded.

Were yours properly installed?

Has anyone ever heard of a "bad" set with adhesive that was not up to par?

I saw some of those metal and nylon sliders at the factory on a bike. Looks like even a tip over could result in a big $$$ problem.

Have you picked up the telephone and called All at American Sportbike before summarily declaring them "crap" and associating his name with them?

I know the way Al operates, if there is a problem, even a teensy weensy one, your money or new pucks would be at your door before you could hang up.

from the Buell Owners problem resolution doctrine......

2. Professional
3. Persistent

I've had two pairs. The first set were painted to match the frame. Despite meticulous preparation, the left hand one fell off by itself. Thinking that I might have contributed by getting overspray on the edges, I didn't paint the second set. They were actually worst. Neither one adhered to the frame and after a few hours, the edges began lifting. Its obvious that there's a quality control issue here. At $70 CDN a pair, I've no intention of trying a third set.

Mine stuck like stink. What did you use to clean and prep the surface before sticking?

If you want what the race teams have Hal's will do them if you send them your frame. It'll cost you in the lines of $500 if you bring them your whole bike $1300 or so.

I've had absolutely no problem with mine & I've been caught in the rain several times and power washed them too. A little ArmorAll on them & they look like new.

No problems here. Been on 6 months , sits out in the heat and ridden in 35 degree weather. Make sure you clean the from with rubbing alcohol first.

I recently low-sided on the track with the Buell frame pucks installed and painted to match.

The ONLY thing that happened to it after being scraped across the ground for ~30' was that the paint rubbed off. It's not even scuffed up enough to make me want to replace it.

Now I'm faced with getting the damned thing off to re-paint it! It looks like I'm going to need a heat gun. Because there's no way I can just peel it off.

Yep. Call Daves (or your dealer). Buell offers a spray can of paint that matches the frame perfectly.

Mine are on good.

I did "prep" before applying per the instructions. My right one is on tight all away around.

I did not get the left one in the exactly the right spot and the very bottom tip of it never stuck good. That was my fault.

The Puck as a whole is on there good and tight, just the bottom tip never sealed good and tight. Applied a small bit of double sided and that was that.

>I screwed up the positioning on the right side ..

I haven't installed frame pucks, but installing other things I like to place it in position and use a sharpie to make alignment marks, then pull the backing off the adhesive and apply the item guided by the marks. Wipe the sharpie off quick with oops or goof off or WD-40 and you're all set.

Mine are EXCELLENT...

It took me a few seconds to figure out which one went on which side and exactly where they went, but once I worked that out, I peeled the paper off and stuck them on. The left one has a small spot where it's not stuck perfect but I've TRIED to pull it off with my fingers... Yeah, whatever...

I'm not worried about them at all. I've watched them work from 6' away and they work very well.

Maybe you put them on upside down and on the wrong side? Maybe too far forward?

Hmm, I've sold these since they came out and haven't heard of problems like this. But I've now read of a few above, and independently, a few other recent customers have cited some adhesion problems.

I'm investigating. Obviously, I don't make the things, so it takes a bit of digging to get to the bottom of it. Anyone having issues, go ahead and contact me so I can determine the extent of the problem.

I've looked at all of the other slider options. I am an LSL dealer, I am a SATO dealer, and I will NOT sell their sliders. As Court so stated above, the other "solutions" are likely to cost more money than they save. I spoke with a Buell test technician, the testing on these frame pucks is pretty significant. Bikes have been dropped off of trucks at speed to assess their performance, and they work.

That said, if they aren't sticking, they clearly won't work. If one or two people said theirs didn't stick, I'd have to suspect installation. But based on recent info, we may have a bigger issue than that. But I still firmly believe that the frame pucks are the best slider solution, we just have to make them adhere right.

Please contact me if you're having a problem. In fact, if you bought some recently and you AREN'T having a problem, please let me know that as well. If you have the box that they came in, please note the date on the box. More info is better.

Thanks,
Al

Ask Wycked what he thinks of the frame pucks.

Now maybe you had an adhesive issue, but like everyone is saying, if the were properly installed they do their job. I've had mine on since they came out and they definitely aren't coming off without a fight. Maybe they switched adhesives on the newer sets...

I got mine immediately after they came out as well. I think I got mine out of the first group that Daves got...

I wonder if maybe the adhesive gets "stale"...

I installed my frame pucks in relatively cool ambient conditions... around 55 degrees, they are stuck on very well, have ridden thousands of miles in the rain, no problems.

>>>I wonder if maybe the adhesive gets "stale"...

I don't know but time will tell.

If I was going to be part of a group buying anything, I'm greatly comforted by having the likes of Al and DaveS in the mix.

If it ain't right, it will be fixed.

Along with that kind of service comes the responsibility to provide facts ("crap" tells them nothing "actionable" and to fess up when you done it. Trust me some of the things that have broken on my Buells have BEEN broken by me.

Expect much, play fair.

I installed mine in the sun in the AZ summer. Probably 90 degrees and the frame was hot. I wiped the tank with a wet cloth first...

Ok I was alittle hot headed last night, sorry to anyone that I offended.
I preped the surface with rubbing alachol like the instructions said, and the right side is just perfect.
I will have to contact Al so he can officially chock up another on the list of people that installed them right but encountered problems.

Again I am sorry and "crap" was too strong of a word.

all of the parts I've ordered on my xb were from DAVE S or AL's american sport bike. And the service was great, I had the same problem that you had with the pucks (see what the puck) even the same side and dave s was more than happy to make me happy even on his day off, but like i stated up above I found some 3m automotive emblem tape and have been smiling ever since

Elyas,
Got you covered. If you have the box they came in from Buell still, please check the date. I'm guessing it said 10/20/04 as we ordered a bunch a while back so most, if not all, of our recent sales likely have that pack date. I can not conclude at this time that all marked with that date are bad or not, nor can I conclude that all packed on a different date are good or not, but we'll get it figured out.

Buell has been contacted, investigations have started, we'll get to the bottom of it, and everyone should be satisfied in the end. I can't instantaneously make it right, but we'll get there. I'd send you a new one if I thought it would help, but at this point, sending another MAY just be sending you another problem. I'm returning all the ones I have in stock to Buell so they can do a thorough investigation, so puck shipments to customers are temporarily suspended.

Stay tuned.

Al

Nice.

My local Honda shop would have just given you another set. After that set failed, they would have berated you about your lack of intelegence and told you to schedule a slot in the shop. After charging you to put them on (to recoup some of their cost in giving you the second and third set) they would have taped them on to save face and started praying that you never wreck. If you did and then pointed out that they didn't work, they would have shrugged their shoulders and pointed you to the sales floor...
