After this traumatic ordeal, we headed on into New Mexico through Luna, and down some gorgeous curves, through Glenwood, NM where the XB's could take on some gas, and on to Daryl's memorial. Jerry's pics from the memorial are above as you can see. From there we proceeded onto Morenci, AZ for gas, and what we thought would be lunch. I think the cheeseburgers at that gas stop were pretty bad, but we DID run into AL (belookin) and the Aprilia crowd there, and proceeded on with them.

Looks like (obviously) Ski made it and now Al. I feel like a damn junkie that could've had a fix this weekend but missed out on it. More please....more! |

Looks like FB is sportin' a new 'Stitch and Arai. Is he loosing weight or does it have a built in girdle? Do they come with expandable love handle gussets now? Isn't he humping the wrong person? I thought I was jealous I couldn't make it, now I wonder. |

Just curious, Since its' right next to the road, did you stop by and check the Clifton Jail out? If you’re an ‘Old West’ fan, it’s something to at least say you physically visited it. The small jail was blasted out of the side of the granite cliff. My Grandfather was Sheriff in Greenlee County in the late 1800’s and my Dad told me many harry stories. It is claimed that none ever left the Clifton jail except under escort. The Lesinsky brothers, owners of the mines, enlisted Margartio Verala to build the jail. The story goes on to say that upon the completion of the jail, Verala went out to celebrate. He got to carried away and shot up the dance hall and ended up becoming the jail’s first guest. -SD: |

hehe, good story Jim! I bet that must have sucked, building it, and then being the first in it. LOL Fortunately, none of the group had to visit any jails, all though, from what I hear the police did have to come and calm down the party Saturday night after the ride up Hwy 191! While most of the group sped through Hannigans Meadows, some of us did stop to enjoy the beauty, and take a break...

Bad Billy Bartimus, BuellHo, or just plain Bartimus, posing with my latest acquisition. The CityX is basically stock except for the Jardine. It was very underpowered for two-up riding, and required alot of shifting to keep in front of the Winnebago Ferris was riding, to no avail, with a grin and a twist, Mr. YamamotoSan was past me with the greatest of ease. But the handling of the CityX was superb, I attacked the corners with a passion, and the bike kept asking for more. (Hmmm, if only it had my S1W motor in it...) |

what a weekend. 0400 launch on Thursday, after not enough sleep, but enough beer. me ‘n D in the truck, the Reactor strapped in the back, Unibear astride his trusty S3T. daybreak a hundred miles later, good to be on the road, on a road trip. got creative at Adelanto, hung a left off 395 to Apple Valley (former home of American Sport Bike) and beyond, to avoid Interstate 10 but to keep us pointed toward Arizona. a brilliant move, made great time, saw cool stuff, and NO traffic except a million Harleys headed to Laughlin. damn hot, at least for the Bear, a comfy 68 degrees in the cab of the truck, about 45 CD’s along to rock to, including the Best of Boston (which is ALL of Boston). just about too far between bushes to squat behind out here, found a PortaPotty for Denise JUST in the nick of time. a cool way to spend the day, making time, but calm and casual, stopping when we wanted and taking as long as we wanted, making sure the Bear stayed alert and hydrated. fast forward to Phoenix, Bart on the cell phone, still harassing me about the V-Strom, which I no longer own, unaware of the Blue Thing in the back. motel, room, beer, Buell friends, motorcycle friends, simply friends, and good people, laughter, lies, more beer, more beer, more beer, bed (for some of us). day one of AZ SpringFast 2005 is in the books. |

Yes, or um, it used to be... Carey had sold the bike and the new owner will take possession some time this week. Carey was taking it on a farewell ride so to speak. |

Day two is ALMOST in the books. he he he After some glorious canyon carving in New Mexico, a stop at Daryl's Memorial to pay our respects, and the legendary Hwy666 behind us, we blasted across the bypass to Show Low in the rain. The group had splintered into smaller groups by now, Ferris, Glen, and I the last to head back. As we were blasting along at a high rate of speed we were shocked back to reality be the flashing lights of one of the areas state highway patrols. I must say, it truly was a sucky feeling, pulling over, I waved Ferris on, but he would have no part of it and pulled over also. We waited for the cop to catch up to us, both of us saw him pull over and thought he had turned around. But hey, I guess he just wanted to scare us, (which he did) He never showed up over the rise, and as we contemplated his actions in the rain, we decided he only wanted to slow us down. We found out later that he did in fact pull over one or more of the Springfasters, but ended up discussing Buells with the individual and giving him a warning and sending him on his way. Thanks to whoever he was, I appreciate his understanding, and do want him to know, I did notch it down just a bit. Really! But HEY! It's raining, and we've got BEER on ice waiting for us. Let the party begin!!! Day two isn't over yet... |

It was a great but way too short a time.I enjoyed meeting all of you.Everyone there was fantastic! Not one I couldn't call friend! Kudos to all who worked and participated as you helped a great thing happen. Gota watch that Bart guy tho as he bought that FIRST bottle of "brain warp" with a plan. Which I blissfully bought into knowing full well the probable results! Thank you for putting up with me as I unwound, which I needed. Old, drunk wisemen are not always wiser, sometimes just drunker! (for two of the AZ guys) It's not a party until the cops are invited (twice?) In the first hour on Sundays ride we rode through buckets of rain, sleet & hail. Sadly for me it took quite a bit longer to ride through the hangover. By the time I got to California it was getting to be a hard ride. Horrible winds and very cold & tired. I hope the guys heading north had a better time of it. I hope you do it again next year. I had a blast. |
