One of the reasons I'm riding my Buell today instead of a Duc is Steve at Renaissance! He seemed pretty arrogant and somewhat of an elitist. I guess he didn't think I had the ability to afford a Duc. He also didn't want anything to do with my Sporty (which I do understand, he's got a small shop and doesn't cater to the Harley crowd) but he didn't even attempt to call around to see what he could wholesale it to another dealer. You would think he'd try a little harder to make a new sale for him.

My buddy has a Tuono in Tucson and has had his share of good and bad experiences with Steve. I guess it just depends if he's had his cappucino or not!

Don't let some bad experiences sour you to much, because I've had excellent luck with my bike over the 14,000+/- miles I've ridden it. No leaks, squeaks, rattles (okay...maybe few), or major problems at all! Go ride one, that's the one thing the HD will let you do that other brands usually won't. It may be the deciding factor!

TucsonXB9S,

Steve is very selective about his trade-ins. This is very true and he very seldom accepts a non-Italian bike. For this reason, he has almost no used bikes for sale. He's doing something right though because he's been in business since the 1970s.

I sure would love to buy an XB9S or XB12S! I know I've said it a few times already but they sure look nice. All the reviews I've read have been pretty good too.

If you could do it over again, would you get the 9S or 12S?

Tim

The 12 came out a month after I bought mine. At first I was a little upset (no one told me it was coming and I didn't know about this wonderful website!) but I realized that it wasn't that big of a deal. The 9 was cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, and with a few mods (Jardine pipe, K&N filter, and 12 airbox) I'm happy with the performance. I may be off a little on the HP and torque, but I don't know if I'm really missing too much. The bike far exceeds my ability and having a 12 wouldn't help me be a better rider! So after a long winded answer, no...I wouldn't change a thing.

You're right about Steve. I know he's been around a long time and he has a very loyal customer base. I've almost ridden his Kitt Peak ride a couple of times. I just felt a little put off and disappointed he didn't try a little harder to get my business. I really was lusting after a Monster 750 with the Senna colors.

I lusted after a firey Italian, but fell in love with a sexy American!!

Nevar,

My dealer (in Yuma) dropped the Buell line but the bike is so easy to maintain/wrench that I couldn't let not having a dealer part me from my bike. It's been very reliable and I wring the dog sheit out of it.

If you do decide. Get the manual and perform your own maint. It's so easy. It makes the whole bike ownership experience more intimate. You better know your bike.

Thanks CharlieBoy and Tucson XB9S.

Don't get me wrong - Steve can be a bit distant. He ain't perfect!

If dealership wasn't a factor, I'd definitely go with the Buell over the Monster 1000. They're about the same price - $10,500. The Buell is just more INTERESTING. This online review picked the Monster over the Buell - but they said that everywhere they went people asked about the Buell - not the Monster:

http://www.biketestusa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=74

Also, Motorcycle Online had VERY good things to say about both XBs.

Get the Buell... Reliable AND very easy to work on. I've rotated my engine to swap the header and swapped tires numerous times w/o any real help. Get a service manual. I change the oil and that's easy. I did my front brake pads, that was easy. I've removed the bodywork, that was easy. I takes about 40 seconds to remove the front fairing to get to all the electronics (even easier on the "S" model from what I hear)...

I let my local dealer do warranty work, but so far it's only been one bearing that was an easy replacement (trans output shaft). That's the only warranty work I've had done in 12K miles.

Nevar,
Just FYI, Arrowhead HD/Buell is letting the XB9SX go for about 6995.00 this month. they are making good deals and came down quite a bit on the price for me. I just bought one to add to my collection of Buells. I couln't pass up the deal. I've always been a diehard fan of the tubers. I like the look, and the ease of maintenance. I couldn't really fit on an XB.
One test ride on the CityX, and it all was lost. : )
The seat is taller, and the feel is like that of a very large dirt bike. The handling is world class, phenomenal to say the least. I am very impressed with the bike, and find it hard to decide which bike to ride each day.
Come up to Phoenix, and take the XB for a test ride, you won't be disappointed.

Tripods forever!

For those that wondered about my helmet...

The view of the back of the helmet was washed out too much by the flash but there were only a few scrapes along the back. The ER had said their Xray caught 3 solid impacts, front side and back, but those are the only major solid visible marks.

Ski? You have your own welder at home? Or were you renting/borrowing for the welding on your Wife's Fireblast? (which I can't wait to see Saturday)

Mikel, My god bro, that was some kind of a nasty spill. I had something similar happen. This drunk butthole cut me off while I was on my bike, so I rode up next to him and knocked off his sideview mirror on his truck with my fist. He followed me into a gas station parking lot. So I got off my bike and had him down on the ground whoopin his ••• and didn't see his buddy still in the truck. His buddy got out and did some kind of judo move on my leg and snap, crackle, pop, broken fibula and ligament damage in my leg. His buddy got his though, he had to be helped back to his drunk mobile and fled before the ambulance and cops showed up. But I got his license plate and they stopped him down the road and arrested them both for assault and for DUI, so it was a good night. I never realized how many bad drivers there are until I started riding regularly again.

Mikel,

Yes I have my own welder, it's a cheap mig flux welder. Picked it up at Harbor Freight for like $119 bucks. Works pretty good I guess, everyone tell me to go with gas and I'll be much happier with the welds. Some day.

As long as your not planning on moving out of State again, we might be able to work that out.

Hey Wycked and the rest of you AZ gang, yep, I'm still here in Iraq, to answer you from another thread. I'm at Camp Fallujah. I was doing good until yesterday and my personal laptop kinda crapped on me. The audio on it dumped. So I can't listen to my music or watch movies on it. : ( Hey, other than that, things are going good over here. When I get some good shots that I can share over the internet I'll post something for ya'll. I called the wife and told here I had another laptop coming in the mail. : ) She don't mind so much considering I'm getting paid this extra money. Ya'll take it easy. Wycked, stay safe, I saw you had a bad spill. Take it easy. : )

Hey guys,
This is Kim's wife. He couldn't make a go of it here in AZ. He has moved back to Colorado. I will follow when I'm able. In the mean time, he has a tire changer and wheel balancer, barely used. Anyone interested? (so we don't have to haul it back to Colorado.) See Kim's profile for e-mail address. It was great meeting you guys last month. Cheryle
