Hey all! I'm heading down to the Dragon next Thursday and leaving on Saturday. Plan on running the Dragon a bunch of times and hitting the Cherohala too. Rode it last year and had a blast. Will try to take more pics and post them here.

Made a bunch of mods on my 2002 Cyclone since I first registered here, will post pics next week before I go.

If anyone plans on being in the area, send me a PM or email me at themalks@gmail.com.

Sorry, I'm not much of a poster, more of a lurker on here (except when I need help, you guys are awesome).

I hope to be on the Dragon on the 28th and 29th. I have a few buddies I am meeting there. This will be my fourth time at the Gap.

I plan on making this an annual trip (hopefully twice a year). Looks like it's going to be a chilly ride, let's hope it's only cold and not wet. We're staying at the Fontana Lodge ($75/night, 2 queen beds). Not bad for two people to split the bill.

Only thing I'm worried about is that I had a new tire put on last week, and during the test ride at the Harley shop the guy lowsided it and somejpw highsided it too. At first I was worried about the guy, then I was pissed because I've been waiting for this ride since last year, then I was happy when they told me they would replace everything free of charge (including stuff that needed to be replaced anyway). And the kicker is that I was getting it painted RIGHT after I would have picked it up. THAT would have really sucked.

They were absolutely humbled and didn't want to even tell me about it, I think their pride was hurt more than anything. Either way, it's a new tire and I really need to put some serious miles on it before heading down on Thursday. Don't need to be sitting on a new/slippery tire.

By the way, a buddy of mine who also rides an M2 and an X1 told me he gets better grip and easier turns with a smaller tire (170 vice my 190) on his bikes. Any truth to that? And he swears that he now likes his X1 better after installing a racing kit and other mods.

The stock tire on an M2 is a 170. Mine had been a demo bike and they had put a 180 on it. I could not tell the difference. A quick wipe down with acetone will clean the mould release residue off the tire. Soap and water should do the trick as well. I would not worry about it too much. It should only take a few miles of riding.

BTW, my buddies and I are going to camp out. $25/night or all of us at Punkin Center. Good conversations and beer around the fire at the end of the day.

That's what we did last year, but we figured we stay at the lodge this year. I checked the weather, looks to be in the 70's for us, hope you guys have good weather too.

I should be able to post some pics tonight of the new paint job. I'm looking forward to riding with those bar end mirrors too, the mickey mouse ones wouldn't clear my shoulders.

I have thought about the bar end mirrors. I am fine in summer, but my heavy winter riding jacket blocks more of the view. At my last house the driveway was narrow enough that even if my wife and I parked at the edges there was barely enough room for me to get through. Our new house has a very wide driveway, so it may be time to have another look as bar-ends.

Finally got her back, looks a lot better! (Let's hope she still looks like that when I get back from the Dragon)
