... is a wicked, twisted road.

Actually, my first love was an iron head Sporty from the days of Harley domination of the NRHA Drag Racing Series. The coolest fu<kin bike around in the late 60's and early 70's

This bike naturally progressed my first love of Sportys and my newfound love of choppers. This fine home-built unit was my Christmas present in 1969 and built by JB1.

Then we went camping in the summer of 1972 to Yosemite National Park. We were on our way to Santa Ana, Cali where I was going to stay the Summer with my Grandparents. I've been all twisted up ever since. Note all the Volkswagens. Christ, what's wrong with you freaks from Cali? ;)

This very cool Sporty...

... was also the cover bike for Big Bike in April 1972 and owned by this cat named Junior Thompson. Junior owned B&O Motorcycle Consultants in Long Beach, CA. He invited me to his shop. I went. I didn't return to Indiana that Fall the same person. A lot of firsts came for ole JB2 that year. Been twisted up ever since.

I remember the first taste of sweet Mary Jane and I remember the beautiful brown skin of a lovely Mexican girl named Rachel and...

I gotta eat. Kim says my supper's ready. You trouble makers leave my thread alone and I'll be back to finish it. ;)

This bike came twenty-one years later. I sunk a ton of money into this Sporty. Those of you that know what you're looking at will easily be able to count almost the cost of the bike in performance upgrades alone, plus all the chrome from Brown's Plating.

But even as cool as that bike was I fell in love with Buells in 1993 when I happened to stop at Lumis HD in Black Mountain, NC. It took me until 1997 to convince Kim I HAD to have one of these bikes. thumbsup

I almost immediately hooked up with Jerry... uh... Ferris Bueller who introduced me to Todd Williams and DarkSide S2 Danny.

Eventually I got to meet Ferris at the breakdown filled BRATPAC 99. We had fun even with all the breakdowns. Lt to rt. Tim Dickey, Henrik, JB1 (red helmet), FMJ (red jacket), Ferris Bueller.

You gotta watch these two when you're on the road. Ferris Bueller and Fireman Jim are sticker vandals I tell ya. Fontana Dam incline car, 1999.

And I've met seriously dedicated folks who give unselfishly like Heidi Lauby standing next to me. She was the only relay rider on a Buell during the 1999 Pony Express Tour.

And I got to witness really cool moments like when Jay and Cap presented Erik with this guitar at Homecoming 2000.

Since then I became deeply involved with Team Elves. I've been a member since it started back in late 1999 and early 2000. I have a ton of pictures from TE times but I only have a few sized.

I followed and worked with Aaron Wilson even after he ran totally self sponsored. In the seven years since it's inception I count myself honored to have garnered his friendship and respect.

I have fallen so much in love with land speed racing that I willingly drive across the flattest part of the country to hook-up with like-minded folks and volunteer to work many late nights for free on their attempts. Team Elves opened these doors.

This was taken a few weeks back of Snail and I discussing the changes needed to make his bike slick to the wind again.

This is Snail telling a Ferris story. Is there anyone who doesn't have one? If you raised your hand go back to the rule book and read the first requirement of BadWeB... "Must be able to speak fluently about the adventures of Ferris Bueller".

Hey I resemble that remark. ;)

You know I've met a lot of friends through motorcycling and hope to meet lots more. It didn't all happen with Buells and it certainly didn't all happen with BadWeB. My bikes run fine without this web fighting shite. I came to BadWeB when it was an e-mail group and when I joined the site when there were no rules. Now there's more rules to break than a coffee house has coffee cups. Point is some of you have forgotten what it's
all about and you're keeping good folks away with all your petty bickering. I have many more pictures but it takes way too much of my time to stay involved so this is all you get for now. It's someone else's turn to turn this damn place around. Hopefully you guys will get the drift and follow suite. Peace, JB2

Thank's Jb2, very enjoyable. Maybe there is a reason to stay. With all the BS I have seen posted lately, I was begining to wonder if the whole point of why we are here was lost on everyone!

Thanks for the thread Jim. Very neat intro.

Most of my pictures are at home, but here's one that might make a point about motorcycling and friendships:

This is only a handful of the great people I had the pleasure of meeting at Buell Homecoming in 1999. I'm in black (of course). To the right of me, in blue a guy from Jersey I think - Tom maybe (?), then Andy S, Bill, Mikey P and Tat Marcy. Sorry, don't remember the rest of youse guys' names.

A 2-day interstate ride to meet up with people I'd only chatted with online - here ... on Badweb. It was worth every mile.

Jim, its people like you that make it fun. Thanks, I needed that.

My first trip to Bonneville was on a dare. I was riding a Gix., and expected to be treated like an outcast.

Instead I was welcomed, helped, and became hopelessly addicted to LSR.

Jim is generous person. He's dedicated his evenings to building a suitable fairing for the Gix.

The engine, when sorted, will produce 400 hp and we will go 250 mph.

I get trembly and shakey just thinking about that.

BadWeB and TE's made a dream come true. Those were the days.

Here's Paul Snail - father of the 3-step racing program - at the starting line at Bonneville in 2003. He looks focused and no doubt feels a few butterflies fluttering:

And here's Paul with his supporters:

And here's another Paul (heal well Paul, and please note what a flattering picture I chose ... ;) ) getting ready for a 150 Club run??

Dad on the 92

Back in late 93 my dad decided to get back into motorcycles after 20 years away.

He placed an order on a Harley SuperGlide and picked up this 92 Sporty Hugger to ride during while he waited.

This became my first bike when the 'Glide came in. Bone stock, 883, peanut tank. Last year for the chain. He put ~16,000mi on it in a year, I put 5000 on it over the winter of 93/94, selling back to him in May of '94 so I could get a car.

Would love to have it back.

Had a Sporty myself, before the XB. Here's one of me and my son on Christmas of '02 with his first "bike".

Josh and Brian, I am admittedly addicted to Sportsters. I owned three before my Buells. Thinking seriously about an 883R with an inareayhess 1200 kit.

This is the '91 883 I owned for a few years prior to the white and blue '93. I purchased the belt drive conversion and installed it before I ever rode it. 1991 was the first year for belted Sportys but it was a 1200 feature only. Like Josh said, the belt drive didn't cover all Sportster models until 1993.

I kept blowing tail lights in a driving rainstorm on the BRP. The boot on the back of the light had cracked and water kept shorting out the socket and frying the bulbs. Dad, JB1, always had an assortment of extras in his saddlebags. A spark plug wire boot works excellent for repairing a tail light socket.

TROUBLEMAKER, JB2

What is a "inareayhess" and doesn't wearing a sporty for a hat hurt your neck?

I liked running mine (my second bike was a 96 Sporty Hugger 883) with no (ok, almost no) accessories and a solo seat.

Sporty

Sold that one to mom (she still rides it) to buy the 98 S1WL.
