How ya doing? Goldwing? Couchabago? No way. No armrests and reclining features on this beast. But it's a Buell! The smile on your face after a rip up the Lion's tale will be more than enough. Oh, and it's comfortable. They designed it that way.

Baby Bart! Wish I could be there to see some of your world - your pics awhile back were awsome. WILL be cool to see you at BRATPAC next year - who knows maybe there'll be another collection in our stable? BTW, the Goldwingie comment - see Sept issue Cycle World - Mr. Anderson's write up. Pretty funny he mentions also the co-rider not coming off the back "given how readily the Ulysses wheelies with a passenger on board." BRING IT ON.  Can't count the times we've watched Rossi, Hayden, Mladin....with soooo little effort carrying a wheelie for the crowds and my sweetie with that look and for the upteenth time thinking aloud "I want a bike that'll do that." |

What is a "GB"? 
On the FB issue... Trust me, FB has been off the Kool-Aid for some time now and is very honest in his views. Too long maybe. And actually I'm pretty sure that he's now a staunch "Koor-Aid" kinda guy. That's one of the reasons he's the man for the job. Me? You are right, I like the Kool-Aid! You? You're too darn cantankerous.

Blake, pretty sure a "GB" in this case refers to Mr. George Bush.
SD, your points are well taken, altho i'm not nearly as nice a guy as your post would lead some to believe. thank you, tho.
as for "Kool-Aid"? it's telling, i think, that of my last four bike purchases, only one was a Buell (my '98 S1W), and the other three were Japanese.
as you know my current ride is a 2005 Yamaha FJR1300, and as you may or may not know, i don't currently own a Buell.
i AM still a Buell believer, tho, and i'm quite sure my FJR was the only Japanese bike running around at Laguna with Buell stickers on it.
i made it clear to Blake from the beginning that i would be fair and honest in my assessment of the Ulysses, and when Paul and Dave signed on i made the same commitment to them.
and i make the same commitment to you, and to the rest of the BADWEB family.
if i love the bike, i will say so and explain why. if i hate the bike, i will say so and explain why. if my feelings fall somewhere in between, i will say so and explain why.
i'll be professional, tactful, courteous and factual, and above all i will be honest.
thank you to everyone who has posted props and well wishes on this thread. it's very gratifying to know that so many of you believe in this ride, and your continued enthusiasm is greatly appreciated!
i need to ink a couple more details and then i can start talking about the itinerary and timeframe for the ride.
at this point i CAN say that the Ferris Bueller Rides Again Tour will begin at Appleton Harley-Davidson/Buell in Appleton, Wisconsin, and will wrap up here at the fabulous ThunderDome in Lake Isabella, California.
the getting-from-there-to-here part is starting to come together in my mind (with invaluable assistance from Denise), and as soon as i can i'll lay out a day-by-day outline of the ride here on BADWEB.
i invite all of you to come be a part of this adventure. i'll post more details just as soon as i can.

Smoke - I remember a story in American Sport Bike where Ferris made a direct appeal to Erik for more power after his S2 was spanked hard by a kid on a 748. And even though we all loved the lines of the S2 he was one the first people to make a call on the poor fit and finish of Buell motorcycles. It may appear he's leading the choir but I know for sure he's been calling the preacher on his short comings. |

If I didn't think Jerry would be honest, I wouldn't have gotten involved.
I have the utmost confidence that he will be.
I also have a feeling that Jerry may become a Buell owner again shortly after the ride is over.
The quality of the people on Badweb is truly amazing!

everyone's calm, SD, and i should have added a smiley or two in my reply to you. going back and reading it again i can see where it might have appeared i was "tense" but i was not, just taking the opportunity to say something that needed to be said anyway, and YOU happened to provide the perfect catalyst.
your opinions are indeed welcome here, along with everyone elses. i am curious what MY opinion of the new Ulysses will be after i do a seriously-long break-in ride on it for my new friend Paul. i've ridden three (four?) XB variants to date, but none of them long enough to reach any meaningful conclusions.
i WILL say that the 12R i rode (a speed run up and down the Bostrom) was a VERY happy motorcycle, and it was with considerable reluctance that i gave it back to it's rightful owner. (thank you Don "The Godfather" Sabatino )
anyway, no stress here, this is all supposed to be fun.
and riding -- and writing about riding -- most certainly is.
