YO Ferris,
I'll give you due credit it's a helluva an idea, wish I'd thought of it myself (grumble-grumble). I go the offer one better though...since I already ride my trusty ol' S3 2-3000 miles a week over every imaginable road surface known to the upper midwest (oil, gravel, sand, plain old rutted hard-pack and mud) I should be the one to garner the true-blue, dyed in the wool test-run.

Barring that however; which is highly unlikely, my suggestion would be a Homecoming run on nothing but gravel. I don't think traditional maps would help much, unless you're packing a Dolorme Gazetteer for every state you're crossing. But the factory GPS might get a good test?

Well... What's to say it COULDN'T become a grand "around the world in 80 days" adventure? It's a shot in the dark and (forgive me Jerry) somewhat trivializes Jerry's involvement but what if we DID pass the bike from person to person until it went around the world (or at least to all the major adventure/touring hot spots (think "the gap" for adventure bikes)). Each person could be chosen based upon their availability and literary prowess... It would certainly take some MASSIVE amounts of planning, but hey, we won WWII right? It can't be as bad as all THAT... I'd imagine we would need five to eight people at least for the trek across the US alone. Maybe it should only be a trip across the US and then up to AK and back to East Troy?

Just a thought... Talk about a bidding war for a bike... I'd suspect Erik would end up with it in the end : ).}

Hey M1,
What a good idea. I'll pony up cash for a leg through my neck of the woods (does it help that I'm a published author?).

I don't know : ).

The first thing that helps is securing a bike... one of which the owner is willing to allow the excursion to take place.

I would imagine that there would indeed need to be some obvious and qualifying trait that everyone would need or there would be at least a few people getting all butt hurt that THEY weren't chosen...

Me?

I'm a sucker for cheap hotels. Far be it from me to violate convention by offering cash.

Put me down for two nights of cheap hotel rooms and 6 meals at the Wendy's of your choice.

Frankly, with Ferris on the bike, I could care less where he goes. Trust me Newbies, it's gonna be an adventure.

P.S. - this offer is null and void in Oklahoma and if said Ferris tries to violate the spirit by circling the Dome and having D run Happy Meals out to the road.

: )

My advise...go. The details will handle themselves. Remember old friends...we're only here for the fun and Buell has ante'd up with a worthy toy.

Go Ferris Go....ANYWHERE!

It's not my morals that prevent me from allowing folks to conduct fund raisers via BadWeB; it is cowardice. :/

Blake:
I have a great deal of respect for you and am grateful for the time and effort that you put forth to maintain this, "board". I also agree with the rules that govern this "comunity"
Are you ok with the fact that I am interested in seeing this happen?
Please under stand the following.

Like you and every one else here I work for a living.( just not regularly )
Jerry did not ask ME for any thing. I made the offer with a caveot no bike no gift.
I do not see this as Jerry with his hat out, I took it upon my self to throw down the glove
its easy when some one else pays for it I wanted to start something (good).

I believe that I can and should perpetrate random acts of kindness, I try to practice this as well.

Some times rather than giving to prevent or repair some "morbidity" I would like to cheer on a fellow middle class guy, doing something other than the "survivour" grade TV crap.

I see this as a means to participate and to give some thing to some one as a kindness. As I read through the various areas of the board and learn of things "Buellish" Jerry pops up again and again, like so many others here. Hosting commenting, organizing, all ways with Grace and Humor

If I have offended you or any one else I am sorry

I think that it would be a terrific thing if Jerry can do it and I want to participate
I would not be able to go but I would like to read about it.

Jerry to get my pitty, you have to die or have something horrible happen. Please don't,
My respect and admiration, Yours all ready,

But if you CAN go riding and would like to tell me and several thousand others about it and the Uly - cool, the truth was Bro that I read the posts, followed the links, And My Friend I think that its the right thing to do,
So with all DUE respect to everyone the offer still stands!

GO!, FERRIS GO!

I was thinking tent, and a box or MREs

Besides, now since I am getting stationed in Maine for sure, I am gonna be on teh lookout for a used one..as there is NO WAY I can afford a new one..or I would have already put a deposit down..

Ferris,
I missed this thread before (I'm stuck with internet cafe access for a bit longer so I'm getting selective with the posts I read..), but you also have my support with this.

Please try and break it.

I'm seriously looking at one of these to replace the bikes in the garage after the Dakar. I need to get down to just one bike again, so do your best to find it's faults for me ; )

Hey, this is serious business. No time for celebrating. Time to hone your physical fitness, hit the enrgy bars, and go run five miles. Then when you are done with that you better cook that babe of yours a great dinner and be sure she is one happy lady.

Way to make it happen FB.

Thanks to Paul for his amazing benevolence. You rock Paul! I am so looking forward to reading a real honest to goodness adventure riding report by Ferris eff'n Bueller!

All we need now is a photog to tag along. : )
