Traction grips are still cheap. I just got a set today.

Those Torque grips have custom molded in Buell logo's, which means a custom mold for Buell. That probably leads to the high cost.

I know we were discussing those last week. We weren't quite sure if that price is accurate. Don't think we ever got an official word on it.

It is the correct price.
I have no idea what lead them to believe that they will sell at that price.

Maybe they let you twist the grip to 11 instead of 10 - Spinal Tap Baby!

Personally, I like these grips from American Sport Bike
They are really comfy, and cheap to boot!

I like the Pro-Grip grips that are <$10. Put most of the 44,000mi on my S3 on one set. Very nice.

I keep buying and trying different comnfort gells on the red bike, however, the traction grips are still more comfortable - can't figure why, but they are.

These grips remind me of Steve Martin's old stand-up routine.

"Yea, I'm making some big bucks now. I bought a $400 pair of socks. I got a gasoline-powered turtleneck sweater. 'Course, I bought some dumb stuff too....."

Or the old classic.

Kid with a lemonade stand, sign over head "Lemonade $1,000,000"

Guy: "At that price you sure won't sell much"
Kid: "At this price I don't NEED to sell much.

: )

Class is not excused so everyone can break out their McConnell textbooks and reread the chapter on "elasticity of demand".

Hmmm...Looks like the Harley Mentality has entered into Buell Accessories Pricing.

Of interest, I had to go all the way to Billet Grips before I touched the $80 price point for my Wide Glide and there are tons of both decorative and functional grips below that price point. The inverse is I found heated grips at $250 in Harley's catalog.

Guess the answer is in what the market will bear concerning function, style and price concerning accessories. I just pray that HDI doesn't apply the same strategy to replacement parts. That is one of the more attractive points of owning a Buell over much of its competition.

Incidentally, I really like the Traction Grips I bought from Dave last year and God knows I have bought almost every type of grip in the last 40+ years of riding.

Yikes...I need to surf the Buell site more often. I was clueless to all the bling bling they are selling now for the XB's.

I don't think the prices for the items Midknyte posted are out of line as long as they are metal and made in the USA. It's the cheesy plated plastic crap from China that pisses me off from a quality and longevity perspective.

Good thing I have an X1 and can't be tempted. Then the inverse is HDI got more than their share of accessory biz out of me for my Wide Glide. LOL

I'd rather go down to the local bicycle shop and buy used Schwinn grips than pay $80+.

Hmmm, regarding the grips. To get the old ones off we have to cut them off right?

The left one yes. The right one comes off after removing the screws that hold the throttle housing together.

Oh, and when you use the "liberal" amount of glue that they recomend, have a rag ready to run in between the inside of the grip and the housing on the left bar... It gets a bit messy.

How much time does it take for said glue to set up and get tacky?

Does the right side grip require gluing?

(I have a set that I have not take the time to install yet...)

Leave the left one with glue drying overnight.
A trick to get it to stick even better is put some zipties around it to hold it tight while drying. In the morning just cut off the zipties and go.
No glue need for the right side, you'll see when you get it apart.
