All -- what with the riding weather getting pretty thin round here, I'm putting together a list of things to do to the MaDeuce -- isolators, belt replacement/chain conversion, and like that

while the old dear is down for the season, is there anything I should be checking/replaceing, just cuz? things like seals for the mainshaft/clutch? pull that tiny seal and look at the 5th gear bearings, and like that?

watch for This Old Buell on a board near you!

Wheel Bearings, Primary tensioner, check for leaks,
Make sure all bolts are tight,
Do a leak down and compresion test.

Go over your wiring with a fine tooth comb and correct any wear or pinch points.

Look at the underside of the gas tank and seat for wear points.

Clean up or simplify any wiring or hose routings if you have the bike apart enough to do so.

If doing a chain conversion try to work out a way for a neutral pivot point to minimize chain slop.

If you haven't already done so consider swapping over to XB style rocker covers.

Acquire a second set of wheels with fresh skins to minimize downtime or to dedicate to track days if you plan on more than one track day.

Exercise with strength training and stretching. Work on the operator as much as the vehicle. Now that the smoke has cleared you will find new strengths which will transfer directly into more proficient riding and handling of the bike.

Consider an underseat tray, or a mud flap over the oil tank to keep road debris from accumulating up topside.

Acquire a second set of bodywork in a different color to swap out and confuse those you ride with. ; )

Have fun with whatever you do this winter. My winter begins in January, I'll be watching your progress for ideas. Keep us posted.

Mike -- wilco -- got some ideas about eliminating 50% of what I consider the biggest PITA on my bike -- paint that goes south by looking at it hard . . . .. . it links to your suggestion about underseat trays (which I've already got)

I'll be down in your neighborhood after Thanksgiving next door to Ikea. Maybe we could get together and ponder some ideas. I still haven't had the time to mod up the S2 upper tree yet, maybe I'll whittle out some foam by then and bring it by to show you what I'm thinking of.

1) Clear powder coat the PM rims (no more polishing : D)

2) New front brake rotor

3) Underseat tray

4) New wheel bearings (might as well, the rims will be off already)

5) New fuel line (mine looks to be on the verge of major dry rot)

6) Maybe powder coat rear pulley on S1W

7) Maybe billet pulley on S3T

That's about it for my bike.

Wife's bike (P.O.S. Honda)

1) Find ignition problem (thinking bad plug wire)

2) Check all wiring (goofy lighting troubles)

3) Get 4 Sale sign

4) Buy her a real bike (what was I thinking)

Bomber, or just pull the whole thing apart and do an 88" Upgrade with some Stage3 headwork from nallin ? : )

I'm at least going to do some SE 537 Cams this winter, and MAYBE an 88" upgrade if I get enough overtime to pay for it : )

Tripp,KB covers do 2 things.As they are 1 piece uppers instead of the stockers 2 piece there is one less gasket and one less place to leak.Second,they have nice breathers similar to PCV valves out the top,and you can do away with the breather bolts out of the head so there is less blowby.Much cleaner looking install all the way around.There is a list of part #'s kicking around in the knowledge vault.

Winter list (99 X1):
1. XB Rocker covers. Breather hoses into some type of catch can.
2. Gut the airbox. Hmm, this could lead to an aftermarket air intake later in the winter.
3. New valve stem seals.
4. When the the heads are off, remove all carbon and all new gaskets. Ehh, heads off? Porting? New cams? Other valves? Not yet but who knows? It's a long winter.
5. New front brake rotor.
6. Something must be done about the undertray situation, a lot of debris under the saddle/on top of the oil tank. No decision yet.

That's it for now. When the strip search is fully done maybe the list will be extended. Sure, the winter is long but when the skiing season picks up, suddenly there will not be enough time. Better do as much as possible right away, before the moguls and powder demands attention.

Hmmm...new wheels, maybe a velocity stack setup, drill out the 12 airbox, new mirrors, and the black header.

I may also put my stock ECM back in and see how he runs then. I'm rather curious considering the discussions over on the XBoard concerning the CityX ECM vs Race ECM...

Word is that the XB covers have a better breather setup. Get's rid of the umbrella valve, reduces pukage, plus it's something to do. ; )
Mainly though it just helps reduce or eliminate oil mist spew out of the rocker area.

I found something on refurbishing old lathes, I'll try to remember to bring it along in a few weeks.

Just got long range (3 month) weather report for the west. Warmer than normal and average precipt. so maybe this winter just normal maintenance and try to ride each week sometime. Even just a warmup lap of the countryside for an hour is enough to keep my senses acute through the coldies of winter. 45, dry and sunny is just right. Now wheres those long johns I wear for hunting? My bike's getting new tires today. Wish me luck riding home on new rubber in 50 degree temps. Except for a bit of cleaning & polishing, that's about it for the winter.
