Thank you all for your thoughts. Really, I appreciate it. The people on this board have become, to me, a set of extended friends.

The ultrasound showed normal kidney function so we're thankful for that, but now I don't know what's going on. At least before we had a cause. Now all we know is he's sick. Isn't not knowing the worst!? He's still listed as serious.

The docs are speculating that his infection (sinus and inner ear) is doing weird things to his diabetes. They gave him sugar every hour last night and he used six pts of blood! Oh, forgot to say he's got Myodisplaysia, transfusions keep him alive. I think he's using more blood cuz he's sick. He seemed to be better today and I'm thinking if he's good next week I'll still come. Eliz thinks we should stay here, and I don't know what I'll do... Thanks for letting me talk. Let you know by Fridays cancellation deadline...

Charlie, sorry about your Dad. I could not go last year and I was bummed about it, but this year came very quickly- If it stays serious and you have to cancel there will be another time. My thoughts are with your family bro, hope all ends well.

DRATS!!!!!
Looks like I'm not the only guy with an XB in Kern county anymore! Worse yet same bike & color.
Actually I think that just means you have great tastes.
Welcome aboard.
I have family in Rosamond so you might be driving them nutts trying to figure out who you are on that XB.
Unless your working real late Friday nite I would NOT wait until Saturday morning. There will be people up late. I plan to ride up Friday after work too. You'll miss out on a great time with a bunch of great people otherwise.
I look forward to meeting you.

Charlie - having normal kidney function sounds like a good thing, good luck.

Mike13, be sure to call Montecito Lodge and secure your room there for Saturday night. also, we'll be launching from the ThunderDome here at Lake Isabella at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and taking the most twisted route up into Sequoia/Kings Canyon i can put together. as such, i think it'd be hard to try and catch us on the road somewhere if you miss the 8 o'clock launch. it'd be best if you could get up here Friday night for the BBQ and beer, or be here in time to ride out with us on Saturday morning. either way, ride safe, look forward to meeting you. drop me an e-mail (address in profile) and i'll send you directions and phone numbers.

ride to lean,
Ferris

Sandblast, you've got mail.

Lake Isabella is about 45 miles northest of Bakersfield via Highway 178 (EXCELLENT canyon road, especially coming up in the afternoon/evening with the sun behind you), then another five miles or so along the lake via Highway 155 to Wofford Heights and the fabulous ThunderDome.

see you soon,

we thought it was SO cool that the town of Posey, California has already laid out the welcome mat for us.

granted, they spelled "Oktoberfast" wrong, and this is the SECOND annual Oktoberfast ride, not fifth, but hey, it's still a great gesture on their part.

in all seriousity, this is a GREAT time of year to ride the southern Sierra - the temps are PERFECT, the roads are nearly empty, and the scenery is stunning. HOW stunning???

scroll on. : )

Dino, you'll surely recognize this general locale.

for the rest of you, this was taken this afternoon about a mile south of the Ponderosa, and we'll be riding by here on Sunday on the way back from Sequoia-Kings Canyon. the altitude is a tick over 7000 feet, the air is crisp and clear, and the livin' is easy.

y'all come.

me 'n D both lamented the fact that my camera could not record the sound of the stream running thru this idyllic alpine scene.

guess you'll just have to come listen for yourself.

FB...when you get a chance, could you send me a full resolution file of that shot looking up the stream? That's got to go into my wallpaper rotation! (and yeah, it do look a trifle familiar. Is it really just two years since the Viffer/Fizzer shot?)

Well, since FB hasn't shown his grizzled countenance here this evening to post teasers of the Oktoberfast route...here's one my lovely wife, Char, took a few days ago.

WOW!!! nice work, Char. : )

teasers? well, the Oktoberfast route this year: Is. Pretty. Nice. i only took one photo yesterday, in the interest of time, as the sun set thru the trees above Springville.

Dino, you'll appreciate that if i was near Springville when the sun was going down, the ride over the Western Divide was done in the dark.

happy to report no encounters of the deer kind (and happy to warm up again as i neared Kernville).

i believe it was Sandblast who asked earlier if we'd see any big trees on this ride. dude, you won't go away hungry. : )

recon'd the entire Oktoberfast route yesterday, all 330 miles of it (about 165 slated for Saturday, another 165 or so on tap for Sunday) - Pretty Sweet Stuff!

the temps are cooling off up in the Sierras, so bring appropriate gear. the weather forecast is good for this weekend, but they HAVE been getting the occasional mondo late afternoon thunderstorm up there - you shouldn't need it, but consider bringing rain gear if you have some.

y'all should have your reservations locked in at Montecito Lodge by now - call Christine at the number listed earlier if you don't.

ping me (e-mail in profile) if you need directions here to the ThunderDome, or have any other questions or concerns. BRING A SLEEPING BAG OR BEDROLL IF YOU CAN.

we're up for company here at the 'Dome anytime after about noon on Friday (and we'll begin forcibly evicting any stragglers about the same time-frame on Monday). ; )

looking forward to the weekend!
