I am very proud to have served in any capacity, proud to have volunteered and continue to be incredibly proud of the young men and women presently serving.

This thread hits me at a particularly personal time as I am in the middle of writing, mostly as an exercise in personal catharthis a story entitled "My Town" about living and working in Post 9-11-01 New York City.

Not a day goes by that I don't count my blessings, my friends and the gifts that have been bestowed.

I served 3.5 years of active duty from Aug 88 until Feb 92. I was an M203 grenader and finally a weapons squad M60 Machine gun team leader.

I then left the active service and spent another 4 years in the WI national guard. I served as a TOW missle gunner on an ITV (Improved TOW Vehicle) and as the company operations NCO. I left the guard as a Corpral because I never went to PLDC. I used up my active duty PLDC slot by instead going to Combat Leadership Course so I could try for Ranger school. I graduated CLC but was never able to get to Ranger school. (Still pisses me off.)

I was proud to serve and if I was physically able I would have reup'd on 9/12/01 and asked to be sent to the 82nd. But that is out of the question because of Diabetes.

Am I the only one concerned with the fact that some of us have, at various times in our past, been issued automatic weapons?

Any future to a Buell Armed Recon Force.

I can see it on my resume'....."B.A.R.F. - 2004".

Worse than that, the Assault Weapon Ban is about to Expire on Sept. 13, 2004. We're all freaking doomed!

U.S.Army - 1/10/66 to 4/10/69

In their wisdom the U.S.Gum'mint decided I was best needed in Germany where I spent almost 3 years attached to a typewriter, even though my MOS was 41E20 (camera repairman). Did enjoy traveling throughout Europe. Took a European discharge and spent about 6 months traveling by Montesa and following the Formula 1 circuit.
