I've been looking at Helmet's. Trying to figure out which one I want to get in the future. I've found it. Anyone want to loan me $700.00 for this Schuberth S1 ? Man, that's a sweet helmet. |

I flat out LOVE my Schuberth Concept -- this one looks even kooler, but, at 7 bills, unless I can get a test unit and promise to do a write up for the board here, it ain't happenin this year ;-} Is it snell-rated? a quick looksee didn't show that data they make great products! |

Did you see the info about the safety strap.
quote:ANTI ROLL-OFF SYSTEM (AROS): If the above isn't enough, the S1 has an advanced retention system to prevent the helmet from rolling off the riders head. Other helmets on the market use a single strap to secure the helmet to the riders head. The S1 has a 4-point system. The two additional straps can't be seen while in everyday use, but deploy on impact. The two rear straps are attached to the rear of the helmet using industrial strength rivets. If the helmet shifts forward during impact, these two straps prevent the helmet from shifting (rolling) forward and off the riders head. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ADVANCEMENT.
Is your Concept Snell. I'll have to do some research. I'd still buy it if I had that kind of money. Sweet Helmet. |

Snell has no defined procedures to approve flip front helmets. The Concept or S1 can't be snell rated until snell gives them a criteria. I am happy with my Schuberth Concept, but it is not the "uber helm" that I was hoping for. Its a good helmet, and I am happy with it, but I got it while the dollar was strong and I was already in Germany and it was on sale. It ended up like $275 USD total. For that price it is a great helmet. Had I paid the $375 the local BMW dealer wants for them, I would have been pretty dissapointed. YMMV, IMHO. |

Southern -- nossir, the concpet is not snell (I don't think any flip-front lid is) . . . . at any rate, it's quiet, incredibly well made, and show what we've come to think of as typical german attention to detail -- if I had 7 to drop on a lid, I'd go for it on the strength of my experince with the Concept (Message edited by bomber on August 31, 2004) |

I don't think the S1 is a flip-front helmet?? Also, on the site, they're going on about decibel ratings, and claim that a 6 db decrease in sound level equals a 50% drop in noise?? AFAIR the db scale goes in 3 db jumps - a 3 db increase is a 100% increase. Do I remember wrong (entirely possible). Nice looking helmet, but without any testing or reviews, $700 is a bit steep for my wallet. The high end Shoei and Arai race replica paint helmets aren't that much. Henrik |

H -- right as rain, on both counts -- the S1 doesn't appear to be a flip front, and 3db IS a 100% change -- |

I saw a Buell helmet at my local billet and chrome emporium, it had a flip front too! |

I have an Arai head. I love mine, although I think it may be time to retire the five year old. I'll be getting another one for sure. |

The S-1 is Full Face, not a Flip top. This thing won the Red Dot award for design (whatever that is). Anyone know what this means; ACU Goldrace approval ECE 22 05 Approval That's listed on a German site. Either way, the helmet has some features I like and from looking at the design and reading about it on some other sites, if I had the money, I'd buy it. |

And this just in from the Not That It Really Matters Dept.: "The S1 is 8.5 dB(A) quieter than the average helmet, so almost half as quiet at 100 km/h." Half as quiet means twice as loud. Picky, picky, picky. |

Anyone seen these before? My first thought......What the hell. Hell, give me the S1 Helmet. (Message edited by southernmarine on September 01, 2004) |

Sometimes 3dB is 100% and other times 6dB is 100%. It all depends on the scale. I'm not sure what the scale is in this case. It could be sound pressure level; it could be attenuation; or it could be something completely different. My Dad has worked in the hearing industry longer than I've been alive, and I could never get him to explain to my satisfaction when it was 3dB and when it was 6dB. Now when I ask him, he just gets annoyed and refuses to answer the question. I'll have to try again and see if he provides any more clarification. |

Hey, at least it's quieter than the average helmet. Safety feature is cool, hope I would never have to use it if I were to have one. LOVE the flip down shade visor on the inside, and being able to adjust padding to fit helmet to head, allowing you to adjust for comfort. All sounds cool. Lot better than what I have and what I've been looking at. |

the self-contained shades are the BEST -- specially for folks what wear glasses . . . one less thing to carry, ya don't havta stop at dusk to chenge shields, or buy the ones that change color . . . .. . I"m really surprised more manufacturers havn't put this feature in their lids |

That really is one of the best features I've ever seen on a helmet. Hope it catches on with others. |

db changes are a logarthmic(sp?) scale. So a change from 50db to 51db is not as large as say a change from 92db to 93db on the scale. So it really depends on where in the scale the measurements fall to determine just how much of a sound change there is. |

Ok, here's the answer I got: When you're talking about voltage or current, 6 dB is double (or half). When you're talking about power, 3 dB is double or half. You can see where this difference comes from at http://arts.ucsc.edu/ems/music/tech_background/TE-06/teces_06.html I love the idea of the flip-down sun shade in the Concept and S1. I'd probably own a Concept if I didn't have so much trouble getting the thing on my head. |
