anyone see the latest issue of american iron? how has a chopper become a streetfighter? just cause it has buell parts? BAH! and then the guy says a buell can be found anywhere for about $4500, nothing like putting a value on somebody else's product! what a loser!

It's a shame to see bikes like the tube frame Buells become 'parts donors' for the chopper crowd. Hopefully, there's enough dis-simalarity with the XB series and the Sportsters that engine swaps will be too much work.

I'm not recognizing any emotional attachment from the chopper fans for their creations like I recognize among this Buell crowd for their bikes...unless of course they're parting out a tuber because it won't sell for more than $4500 complete.

i seen one of them buell choppers on ebay today and was pissed why waste a good bike like that; ur takeing a motor out of a goood handling bike and sticking it in a biek that u have to use the other side of the road to take a turn (im confussed)

We all are Firebolt. I'll certainly build an XB powered chopper, but I intend to buy the engine and all the electronics from Buell. Unless of course I can find a wrecked one. I would never take apart a perfectly good tube framed Buell though (maybe a Duck Monster though...).

I bought my 2000 S3 on ebay about a month ago with very minor crash damage (salvage title) and have it ready to license already. The guy bidding against me was "buellchopper".

Glad I could save mine from a fate worse than death!

good job whodom i would hate to hear about such athing happining

and to m1 i guess that would be ok since ur not gonna ripp it out of a perfictly good xb

and for the tube frames though i dont have one i think they are good bikes though my next project after i finish my xb (and save some more moeny) is i want to build a drag bike with a tube frame (though that is takeing away from the handleing too but at least its still a buell)and i could always switch the swing arm back if i changed my mind or sold it

In my new shop I am planning and will take choppers and cruzers and turn them into sport bikes.

I saw the chopper in AI. I personally found the EPA article much scarier. I thought the bike was OK, but nothing special. Streetfighter.... NO, I don't think so. I still think that most coppers built with 1200 engines look like 3/4 choppers though.

As far as putting a price on Tubers, if you can get it for $4500 more power to you. I thought that part of the article was acurate. Personaly, keep chopping them up, I would like to see my M2's value go up much like the fabled muscle cars of the late 60's. (we can all dream)

Wether a guy cuts up a M2 to make a chopper or I do it to restore my M2, it's still one less M2? In the past I have thought about it and there are a few pieces that I am stocking up on to keep for the future. But for the most part, everything else can be replaced. Motor parts, shock, brakes are all parts that will be around for awhile. Parts I would worry about are motor mounts, isolators, seats, and body parts. If you are that worried, I would just buy a second bike and keep it in storage for the future.

Don't take this the wrong way spidey, but your bike doesn't much resemble an M2 anymore anyway. It's not as molested as the bike in AI, but it isn't exactly a stock looking M2 either.

I agree, that's why I don't understand why people get all bent out of shape when someone builds a chopper out of a buell.

Purists.
They seem to feel anything that isnt stock isnt worth as much or that you have somehow made the bike "impure".

Its all just a pile of parts thrown together to produce a bike, cut it up & make something you like better.

Some people like ill handling billit barges I guess. What's really funny is the fact that they believe that since they start with a "Buell" motor they are getting so much more then a sportster motor.

If you read the article you will see he also took the rear rim and had it widened to accept a 280 tire. (just for the look of it) Maybe we should protest the demolition of a good Buell rim...

if you buy a bike, you have every right to do what you want with it. two wheels is two wheels. however, to call a chopper a street fighter is absurd, any honda less the fairing is ten times the streetfighter and sure maybe you can get a buell for $4500 just about anywhere but that statement in a national publication seems degrading to me IMHO.

you know i just think it is kinda sad though being as there are so few older buells any way for instance there are only 6876 s1/s1w that were sold so that would mean that they are pretty rare cuz im sure that many arent around now

For the record... I'm against it. I have an original '72 Mustang Mach-1 in VERY good shape if I do say so myself and I thank the two previous owners for not molesting it one little bit. As far as value... The reason my Mach is worth nearly 20K USD is that there are SOOOO many of them that were turned into "choppers".

What most of the builders didn't realize is that in 71 and 73 they made ~70K Mach's and in 72 they made 17K of them. Lucky me : ). I paid 6K for it about eight years ago when the market for old muscle was horrible. It isn't now, but I'm not selling.
