When I was stationed in Germany (1993-1995), we would get the Hummers to go 70+mph on the autobahns. Some would go faster than others. The military Hummers are pretty scary at those speeds with all of the play in the steering. You look down an see the needle on the speedo in the "overspeed" red area slowly coming back around to 0. Ahh....the good old days...lol. Once I ran out of gas on the autobahn in a Hummer....damn gas gauge apparently didn't work. Now I'm an boring accountant in a boring cubicle. I'm thinking about trying to get a commission as an officer if I don't get into the NYS Troopers. Ahh....the good old days...lol.

Easyflier, we're all impressed that you know the difference between an Abrams and a Bradley.

Donald,
Really cool of you to take time to post your photos. I'm amazed at how little damage the armor sustained from the RPG. I hope your Hummer is armored.

Blake...

A RPG is really not true anti armor. RPG = Rocket Propelled Grenade. I bet it would make a mess of "soft" vehicles, through the window of a house, or into a door of a bunker. That is more the correct purpose of an RPG.

So far the best video I have seen is the guy in the middle of a wide street preparing to fire a RPG or like weapon... and before he can, it looks like he took several hits from a SAW (Squad Assault Weapon, 5.56mm belt fed machinegun kinda a smaller concept of the Rambo movie M-60 7.62mm machinegun, the SAW is kinda neat in that it can also use M-16/M-4 magazines in the place of ammo belts) guessing from the tracers. He did not understand the use of cover! He won't make that mistake again!!!

wow im impressed on how much everyone knows about our equipment.

i called it a tank cuz i didnt know weather any one would know what the hell a bradly was.

now my hummv was not armored in that picture but we did have them armored recently though i dont know that thats gonna do much good considering i seen one last month that was a slant back that is compleatly armord blown to sh**.

to blake that particualr rpg is desinded to basicly f**k up whats in side the vehicle as apose to the outside it does a number kinda like a tumbler round would do to someones body, i have pitures of the inside to but i cant post those due to opsec reasons (never know who might see something there not soposed to)

and lastly to das first of all the m60 got replaced by the 240g its kinda a cross between the 60 and the m249 "saw"; also about the saw though it can take the magazines from the 16 it tends to jam up real bad doing it so though u can its not recomended

and glad every one has enjoyed the pictures

Firebolt...

There have been a lot of changes since I was in the Army 1972 to 1976. I have not learned much about the 240G... kinda remember the M-60 was superceded by newer stuff. Though the M-60 has gone from a crew served to a lighter weight version often seen in SEALS hands... assuming I have not fallen further behind and they no longer use it. I was aware the SAW did not work as planned with M-16/M-4 magazines... it was still a cool idea... too bad it did not work as well.

I try to keep up with that stuff... I am a federal agent, firearms instructor, range master... not much cross over... though the M-4 is getting popular in law enforcement.

Stay safe!!!

the pig (standard nomenclature for the M60 just following waterloo and the battle at hastings) was a bitch to hump, and a bear to fire -- that said, everyone always took really good care of the guy humpin it, as he was a very popular fellow, indeed, when we had bad days at the office

my bad its the 240b not g (typo) its basicly a bigger version of the 249 that fires the 7.62; and they dont really use them as a carried wepon that often its mostly monted or in a fixed postion but thats about all i know about it sue to the fact im in a finance unit and all we have is m16a2's, m9's, m249's, and 203's(though they never give us rounds for the 203's).

the m4 is a good lawinforcement weapon due to the fact that most of there cenerios are close quarter cenreios

one added note the m16 series (ie the m16a1, a2, a3, and m4) are going to be replaced in 2006 (i dont remeber what the new one is called) it is going to fire 5.56 rounds still but it will use a palemer casing insted of brass(due to weight) and it will be less likley to jam and wont have to be cleaned as much because it doesnt get the carbon deposits the 16's have

Also, it will fire a 10mm (I think 10mm) grenade with a semi-automatic or fully automatic mode...

If my second amendment rights were not severely hampered I would be able to buy one to have fun with... But NOOOOO! Bastards.

As I recall it's called the OICW. "Objective Individual Combat Weapon" I think. You can also mount an M203 replacement or a 12Ga under the main barrel (among other things I assume).

About the "PIG" it was always the little guys who got the M-60 to hump! I liked shooting it... but never had to hump it or the belts.

My experience with the M-16 family is a love hate relationship... and has been for 30+ years... I love the weapon system for light weight and how many variations can be made... I HATE TO CLEAN THE BI**H. Too many small places... and gases blowing directly back into the receiver is just a filthy way to to make it work. At the office we have early SP model AR-15s that are near 30 years old... and a few HBAR models. Being the weapons are check out as needed... after quals I have to clean 8 of those suckers along with my personal rifle.

I personally like and own the Stoner version. I have both the M-4 and M-5 (same as a heavy barrel AR) semiautos. Very tight guns... great triggers... but no doubt the M-5 would not work in the big sand box... as when I first got it I took it to an action rifle match, before I had shot it much. It was so tight... it would jam, and did so often until it had a few hundred rounds through it. Great for accuracy... but blowing sand would turn it into a club. My M-4 is not so tight, but it would worry me a bit in the sand box! But then not much blowing sand here in the midwest where I work!

I was aware of the M-16/M-4 being replaced with some spaceage gun with electronics. (Sarge... I got plenty of ammo but I need new batteries!!!) I think they are getting too high tech and the electronics will be a new problem to replace old problems with the current weapons system! Will the logistics be more complicated??? One ammo for the SAW... and another for the new rifle!!! I can't see interchangablilty if they are caseless or no longer brass! Stuff is getting too high tech...

I have an military aimpoint on my M-4... but it is in line with the fixed sights... so I look through the sights to see the dot. My M-5 has a low power zoom scope with a tritium triangle and fiber optics. Zoomed down it works almost like a dot sight. No batteries, works day or night, and has a quick release with popup rear sight if it goes south. A little more than low tech... but not totally dependent on batteries... both have functional fixed sights.

Sorry... rambling!!

Alas, I have humped the M240. Thank God I'm a pogue and don't have to make a life of it! Does make for a nice Rambo style picture to send home to family when outfitted with the over shoulder sling. Couldn't possibly fire it that way though! I must say Firebolt, your pics home beat mine. They won't let me play in the sand, guess they were afraid I'D TAKE OVER LOL!

The M-16 replacement the Marine Corps is looking at is much like and probably the same as M-1 mentioned. A composite upper firing 5.56 with a 12 guage lower barrel. Yea! Oh yea, and tv cameras so I can fire around a corner, forget that crap! Batteries are just gonna run out and the screen won't stand up to the beatings it will get. Most of us carrying the M-9 are voting to bring back the tommy gun. The argument made the MC Times and I'm all for it. Probably the best hole clearer ever! tunnel, bunker, or otherwise!

One more thing... I love my HBAR! Just a few more months before the sunset of the AWB! I'm glad frankenstien, I mean Feinstein finaly got shut up! Keep sending those letters to your congressmen!

Firebolt, keep on keepin on brother, thanks for the pics.

The Heclker & Koch XM8 is the heir apparent. The OCIW has been shelved. From Jane's Defence: Land Forces:
...First, it now appears that the XM29 OICW will probably be abandoned in favour of two stand-alone weapons. The first is the Heckler & Koch XM8 assault rifle, which is under consideration as a replacement for the M16 and M4 family of rifles and carbines. This rifle will be evaluated during 2004, and if tests are successful, it may enter US service as early as 2005.
... Although US Army spokespersons state that the XM29 programme has not been abandoned, the absence of the XM29 and the presence of two new and separate systems at recent trade shows indicate otherwise. If the XM8 were to be adopted by the US Army without competition from alternative designs, it would be an unprecedented event in US small-arms history.

Armytimes.com videos of the XM8

Quick change barrel, stock, and foregrip. Grenade launcher attachment can be fitted to the foregrip that fires the same 40mm round as the M203. Shotgun foregrip attachment for breaching doors. Under six pounds and costs less ($1,800) to produce than the M4. H&K has set up a production plant near Ft. Benning, GA.

You might be thinking of the G11. An experimental gun that fires caseless ammo, that uses a solid propelant (like a rocket). As stands it takes a big heavy battery to ignite the propellant. It's not ready for primetime.
