And at some point you have to ask yourself, why ........... I mean, braging rights are a good thing and all, but in real life, who really cares whos the fastest of the fast. On an empty road, with no one around, how can you tell if some guy in another county with a different bike is ever so slightly faster than you? Who cares? I guess some people do but not me. |

Who is this faster guy you speak of? He must be hunted down & beaten like a dog. |

At the end of the day the faster you are going you just make a way bigger mess when you hit something. it's all good and well to go quick but it needs to be done in appropriate places. Too many people pull stupid speeds near driveways, parked cars etc. For me speeding is best done in a sensible place in short bursts. AKA I love my license... |

And a road like the one in the video is the perfect place to do it. Lord knows im not out doing 140+ down sidestreets or thru intersections. Nice long deserted county roads that I have pre-ridden to see just whats out there before the hammer is dropped. I really think some of the critics of going fast should try it at least once. The rush is incredible. Its hard to imagine just how hard a litre bike can accelerate....& the difference between running thru the gears up to 135 on a Buell & twisting the the throttle on a litre bike at 140 & the damn thing literally leaps forward with a mad rush is intoxicating. |

Dyna- Remember I told you to watch that thing over 10,000 RPM!!! I recently got the chance (The weekend before you got yours) to ride one and the guy told me to "beat the out of it". The guy that owns it is the purest definition of a squid- I went up to Vegas to see my step Dad and go riding with him. Well this guy shows up that works with my Dad and he has a 2004 R1- HIS FIRST STREETBIKE. Dude has on a good helmet, and a tank top. Well I have a lot to learn myself but I found myself the straightest, longest flattest road I could, which just happened to be on the way to Pahrump Nevada and right past a Buell track day, and I rode that thing as fast as I could. My God there is nothing like that on earth. Screw Vipers. I cant ride as good as most of you and I KNOW I would smoke any Viper with that bike you have.. No offense to anyone. P.S. To everyone at the track day I stopped to see, yeah that was me on my M2, riding with the ogre on the SuperHawk and the Squid on the R1. Thanks for letting me use the allen wrenches. |

Hey Sandblast - good ta meet ya at Pahrump! Kinda sucked not having a bike. Both my racebikes are still NFG but I just got an offer to race a gixxer 750 this weekend at Willow Springs. I'll setup the suspension on Friday and see if I want to race it Saturday and Sunday. The XB just found an air leak in the injection system today so MIGHT get done with they dyno tuning tomorrow... we'll see... Dyna - I guess we'll see what all this inline four stuff is all about... 135HP... yummy |

Actually, the R1 would out-perform the Viper by a wider margin than the data provided indicates ... if only you could manage to keep the bike's rear wheel from passing the front wheel ... never a good thing. |

Steve, you are going to LOVE that 750 on the track. From all reports they are probably the best pure track bike produced. My God there is nothing like that on earth. Screw Vipers. LOL, I know what you speak of. |

And supposedly, although I havent been able to confirm this for myself yet, the 04 R1 pulls harder on the top end than the Busa does. Maybe, maybe not, Got a vid? Although an interesting thought does it really matter if one bike is ahead of the other by a bike length or 2 at those speeds? I can assure you I will not be the one of the riders. I do my high speed runs on one of the bridges. East bound there are 2 miles of smooth concrete across my favorite bridge before the hump. If there are no cars ahead of me I'm gone. 170 so far. I guess that means the next time across I'll have to find out. Supposedly the rev limiter in 5th is 185 so that's the target. We'll see.

does it really matter if one bike is ahead of the other by a bike length or 2 at those speeds? Not really. Either way you are still hauling . I havent tried to top mine out yet, did run her up thru 3 gears earlier today & its wild nailing 3rd gear & feeling the tire come up a bit while you are doing 130mph. Spooky stuff, but the bike is so calm & stable at those speeds. |

Yeah, it's all calm and stable until something goes wrong. Ever watch a wreck happen in a NASCAR race on a SuperSpeedway? It takes a lot of energy to go that fast; when things go wrong all hell breaks loose real quick. Ever think of what it would be like to have a tire blow out at 150? It even happens to race tires, just witness last December's tire tests at Daytona. |

but the bike is so calm & stable at those speeds eerily so. I have driven many high end cars at healthy triple digit speeds. I am amazed at how stable the bike is at those speeds. It is absolutely the most stable platform I've ridden/driven over 100 MPH. eerie.......

cars and bikes at speed, no contest ive done 180 indicated on a gixxer, and 140 in my 68 firebird, and the 'bird is barely touching the ground, but in a tuck, the bike is smooth and stable. |

Enjoy life, you wont get out of it alive. Now the wife is thinking about getting herself a Busa. Actually she has wanted one for about 3 years now. Doesnt like sportbikes but she likes that one, the Triumph Daytona 955I & the R6...weird. Personally I think she just likes saying Busa |

Indicated 143mph for me, probably more like 78.5 really. I think my bike would hit an indicated 160 but I'm not really sure I want to find out. The grand rush from, say, 80 to about 130 sure is fun though. |

I've had three friends die on motorcycles. Speed was a factor in all three deaths. Joe was going 70 down an empty narrow one way street when a taxi decided to take an illegal shortcut and pulled out in front of him. Jake was going 90 on the Interstate at 2:00 AM when a drunk swerved over two lanes and took him out. Red was running WFO down the highway with some honey he'd picked up in a bar, and was trying to impress her when he lost control of the bike and hit a guard rail. She lost her leg, and Red died. Last year, I was on my way to Milwaukee for the 20th after having seen the Peoria TT, taking mostly empty backroads. My friend pulled out to pass a car on an empty stretch of road when a pickup pulled onto the main road without stopping. My buddy just missed the truck. In July of 1978, I hit a car on Rt.200 in Montana. I was only doing 70, but when the car pulled out in front of me, there wasn't enough time to stop. When I woke up in the hospital the next morning, my balls were literally the size of grapefruit, and I had drainage tubes running out of my body. It was a month before I could walk for more than 100 yards at a time. My Honda was "calm and stable", but the laws of physics just don't give a damn. Clyde, do you wear a helmet? How about other protective gear? Why? I don't worry about every thing that could go wrong, but I do have a tendency to try and minimize the risk. I also used to work under Boston Harbor blowing up solid rock, so I do know a little about risk. I also hate burying friends, and Dyna's a friend. Besides, if he gets really messed up by that Yamaha, I'll never be able to collect that Pepsi that he owes me. |

no power steering might require a bigger wheel, and if its a quick ratio box...... |

Evaddave the spot lights are on it because the car used to be a Colorado State Trooper car. Socoken it has power assisted steering and Dyna that be about the cost of two R1 payments. The wheel really isn't big I guess it kinda looks that way in the pic but its not. |

it has power assisted steering and Dyna that be about the cost of two R1 payments. Just what the hell is that supposed to mean? If its a reference to how much cubic $$ he has tied up in the car, I really could care less. Fast cars are cool, how much money someone sticks into them makes no difference to me. Always someone with more money, a faster car or faster bike, etc. |

Dyna just kinda referring to your did he get it from a old city bus.The wheel is actually a new wheel.I thought it was a old wheel in mint condition but its not.I guess you see them in alot of BMW's and the like. Bill chop the top????I know he wouldn't and as far as cutting time, someone has asked him that and it really wouldn't do all that much for it.I'll be at Road America in August with him and get to go for a few laps with him.I've been in it on the street but not at the track yet.The car will do about 170ish down the straight at Road America before he has to shut down for turn one.The thing is insane.BTW the fuel injection, intake, air cleaner, frame,A arm's all of it he made by himself, all hand made. He's really a unique individual.Bill if you ever want something done to the Miata,he'll be more then happy to help ya out.He does all this type of work out of his home garage witch is another story. |
