Sorry Cyclone, if you were not paranoid before you probably are now!
Talk about a blown gasket!
In the 15 years I volunteered my time to law enforcement I did ALOT of car stops. NEVER did I look at a sticker # on a plate that came back current. I've NEVER known of any officer who has or even CARES TOO. The only time anybody ran sticker #s was on plates that returned non current but had a current sticker ( for obvious reasons).
People have questioned my intelligence for going out and getting thumped and shot at for no pay but this is a first.
Cyclone I'm sure they can replace your stickers- for a nominal fee of course.
Ride Safe

When I made the same mistake I carried a photocopy of my truck registration in my wallet along with my insurance cards and my bike registration. That way I could easily show the error.

Pan,
We are at war. The Patriot act is not permanent, however some of its provisions merely bring law enforcement into the 21st century. Nother topic, nother day. Peace out.

I've had problems with LEOs, and I've had problems with attorneys. I once got a ticket for running a stop sign that I stopped for. Go to the local DMV tell them what you did and get it sorted out. CYA.

"Plus, I get extra points for pacing the BRAG club I ride with to have speeding tickets issued at a later date."

So when should I expect the ticket from last weekend??? Just send it to Shazam! His bike, his plates, you can't prove who was under all that gear anyway!!

Digger...

When you did your high speed stop (in the middle of the road) to advise that you needed to, to, (how should I word this) to drain some coolant. I think I got a good look at your face. The BMW goes from 80 to zero pretty well. Then things sped up, and I thought we were through with the sudden stops in the middle of the road.

A guy I work with, his wife got a ticket for 10 over and it will cost $172.00. Let's round that down to $17.00 per MPH.

101 - 55 = 46

46 x $17.00 = $782

So... just send me $782.00 worth of beer, and wash my bike as community service and I won't assess points.

If you contest this... you might want to consider this.

You have the right to remain silent.

Anything you say can and may be used against you in a criminal proceeding.

You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advise before we ask you any questions, and to have him with you during questioning.

If you can't afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you, if you wish, before any questioning begins.

If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you still have the right to stop answering at any time. You also have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to a lawyer.

Do you understand your rights?

Are you willing to waive your rights and talk with us?

Or are you gonna just send me the damn beer and plead out?

editorial comment...

This was on a closed course, following all safety regulations, and supervised by an adult. Do not try such things on a public street or without proper training, safety gear and adult supervision.

Do not try this at home kiddies!

They use the short version of Miranda down here, starting first with "Do you have anything illegal on you? You don't mind me patting you down for "officer safety" do you?". Nothing to hide, do you?" This is simultaneous with the "going hands-on." If they decline the search the K-9 is right behind while they take down the ID info and check with the teletype. Then it goes to "you don't have to talk to me, you know, but you can help yourself out, this is your only chance." State and federal jurisdictions are REALLY different believe me, there is NO SUCH THING as a non-consensual encounter here. Riding a bicycle on a sidewalk, or sans headlamp or taillight, rolling over a traffic stop bar, even at 2AM in the morning without another vehicle in sight or any other of a myriad of pre-textual encounters are upheld in this jurisdiction. Thats the real world here, it's funny how it is only prevalent in certain neighborhoods, AKA high crime ( read that as poor) neighborhoods and certain ethnic groups. Most folks here on this website will never have to worry about DWB stops and inquiries. That's the real world on the streets here right now. How about a little federal muscle in checking those stop and arrest statistics?

What's really funny is that my federal colleague and I are at polar opposites. Federal v. State. Law Enforcement v. Criminal Defense. 31 yrs. in LE v. 20 yrs. in trade work and now, mid career 5+ yrs of criminal defense, BUT the kicker is we are both born in 1954 and drive the exact same machines Yellow XB9S with tankbags. My friend, you're not a cross country moto camping tourist also, are you? Please don't tell me you also have a Hi-Viz yellow Aerostitch suit and Nolan flip-front helmet. That would just be too much. Happy riding, Keep the Dirty side down. Peace.

Eight of those 31 years was as a local police officer in a suburb of Kansas City. So I have done both ends of LE.

Don't cross country moto, but also have a BMW R1100RA with hard bags, etc, and tent and sleeping bags if the urge hits me to do more than a local rally.

I do have a bright yellow gortex rain suit I ordered from a bicycle place. I wear a yellow Shoei on the XB and have a HJC flip front I use on the BMW and dearly want a Schuberth flip front helmet.

I would not say we were polar opposites, but there are some issues we are not in sync on, and maybe not as far apart as it may appear. But I care not to debate, just say if we spent time in the same courtroom we might have some different views or opinions, but could find professional mutual respect as it relates to the differences, I would dare to guess.

gotta go... need to take my son home.

I once read a cute little poster that said "Minds, like parachute, work best when open." I have always tried to live like that, as to not do so might adversely effect my skills at conducting fair and accurate investigations. I never wanted to come to conclusions that were not accurate when it could skew an investigation. I always make a major effort to treat others as I would want to be treated. Fairly, accurately, and without prejudice.

Remember, when you are on your XB... are those cages are out to get you! Ride safe.

If you ever get to KC before I retire, look me up... I'l buy you a cup of coffee

"Polar opposites" was not meant as a negative, just an observation. I am sure there is a lot in common. The best rain only gear I have found is for marine use as long as you can get the jacket without a hood, otherwise it quickly becomes a drag chute on your noggin. Everyone ought to try the cross country running, it opens up a whole new vista, even motel to motel is good if camping isn't someone's thing. You feel yourself moving across the map in a way not possible in a cage. I know after 20 years I have to treat every car like it is out to get me, but I also figured out I can't get mad at every one that nearly does so. Otherwise I spend my whole rides upset. I ride every day generally so I can't stress out over them not seeing me. I always give a toot and a wave at them after they cut me off, just to tell them I noticed they may have almost KILLED ME, and shake my head back and forth like a preschool teacher scolding the errant toddler. Dirty Side Down.

I was the one on the 1999 M2 a couple a years back at the Steak & Shake that was trying to talk some sense into the OCSO patrol supervisor. They were again enforcing zero-tolerance, including a guy with full leathers and full face helmet, but because the shield was up they gave him a stop and a expensive ticket, mainly so they could check for warrants, DL, registration and insurance. I tried to talk him into courtesy warnings and pointed out his zero tolerance policy was only being enforced on the sportbikes. There were plenty of illegal "loud pipes save lives" Harleys and they didn't give them a second look.

Curtyd, that was a tough time. A lot of stunting was being done on 436 and then a sportbiker rider was killed at that intersection.... A wheelie at speed into a car coming out of a side road. As much as it was fun to watch the squids drag race and do tricks in traffic, it was not good for the general population. After the selected and targetd enforcement things quietd down. Some of it was well publicized..with news crews to witnesss..some arrests and voila ! no more stunting in evening rush hour traffic for the assemled to watch. Not necessarily a bad thing.
S&S is the place to start the evening now, then up to the hooters in casselbery to ogle the babes.

Don yes ! See you there buddy.

Dougnut..Youre a cop wannabe? nuff said.
Well actually ..Most cops believe that they are the man, it become an ego thing. a dispoprotoniate number of cops are on ego trips, run profiles and are generally ass_oles. in just the few seconds that cop was in the lot..it was clear he was an ass_ole.
I ride regularly with John a big black FHP motor cop, a good guy. His buddy also a motor cop is the biggest ass_ole you will ever meet, also black. IMHO cop attitudes transcend race. If we weren’t friends he would hate me on sight...something about the uniform and gun gives little minded men a sense of power.
Recently on a business trip out of state..I rented a car, drove to my hotel reservation pulled into the hotel next to it by mistake..right into the middle of a big drug bust. I pulled out and was followed, cuffed laid in the snow and ice and even after verified I was less than 30 min off a plane and 100% legit was left in the sleet in cuffs for 30 min.... I had to demand an on scene supervisor. yes, racial profile, yes I took it all the way to a public apology in writing and discipline action against said ass_ole cop. check to be mailed to me shortly too.
Protect and Serve..remember that ? Sadly missing in too large a percentage of cops. YMMV.

I will agree that there are many people who are cops who should not be. I was simply not clear as to why you were happy to see the scene that you did. I did not realise that the officer you mentioned was out of line.
