Had my new Hitachi 51" HDTV delivered about 7 hrs ago & all I can say is "holy shit". Fantastic picture & on the channels that broadcast in HD like Discovery channels HD theater its incredible.

Cant wait to watch some bike races on this puppy.

Too bad they cant make tv shows as cool as my new set tho.

Too bad that everything that it broadcast is so shitty.

We have a few of those at work that we use to monitor our HD signal. You're in for a real shock the first time you actually see what your favorite news anchor's face looks like X20 real size and in HD.

Start shuddering now!

A TV that large is a disgusting display of materialism. Cleanse your soul Dyna and take it to the local charity shop where you can dispose of your gratuitous wealth. Feed the world.

Dyna, this Sunday afternoon, you can watch the 600 supersport race from Sears Point live, as well as the two Superbike races from the same track on Speed TV (AKA the NASCAR channel). Oh, I think they're showing the Formula 1 GP race as well.

Dyna,

My wife complained when I bought my Toshiba 51 widescreen HDTV. The first movie we watched changed her mind. If your TV has the component 3 color video hookups, us them instead of s-video on your dvd and xbox hookup. It makes a big difference in quality. Now if we ever get any decent channels in HD through satelite, I'll be all set.

Hitachi 51 ...blah...try 120 inch front projection...HDTV life size! You have a nice little tv there though. I like my screens like I like my motors...big and extreme:-)

In the last year I started a home theater business(on the side). I setup projectors, build screens, and install Audio systems. You would be surprised how affordable and what you can get with your money with front projection. Front projections systems have a few drawbacks...but they have many BIG advantages...

Hope you enjoy your new TV!

The 3 color hookup is better than the S video cable? Hmm will have to try that since I have both sets of cables. I used the S because it was easier.

Yeah... component is better and as I recall optical is even better. Your still limited on the original signal you get though... Like the stupid coax cable coming from your satellite... For DVD's however, big difference.

I need one of those projectors for my computer... Do they make any that do 1280X1024 resolution?

Yeah Never Winter Nights on the 56" simply ROCKS...have my laptop hooked up to it on occasion with a 12' S-Video cable. Trying to find a DVI-DVI cable that cost less the fort knox so I can hook my deskbox up...

Right Idea M1combat...but optical is for audio signal...component is second from the top on most video applications...

From least to best quality:

Composite(one yellow rca connector)...
S-video(4 pin round connector)...
Component( red green blue rca connectors)
DVI(lots of pins about 1.5 in wide by 1/4 inch tall)

and ditto what Henrik said about the $$ for the 1280X1024

>Like the stupid coax cable coming from your satellite...

Nope, that transmits the signal just fine, the limiting factor with your sat (and digital cable) is the lossy MPEG compression they are using.

I'm staying with my 27" ProScan until I can find something better for < $1500. I just sit close, pretend it's big and turn up the SVS subwoofer.

8' wide HDTV is the way to go. The inFocus X1 (or 4800 depending on the inFocus line you go with) is a good deal for about 1000.00. I have a bright living room and the projector still works good. Some of the ones I've seen around town in restaurants suck, don't let poor setup jade your view on a projector. Yeah ok I bought my X1 from Torqd, but I had been wanting a home theater setup for awhile and figure they are finally at a good quality for the $'s. And XBox with component video and optical audio, wow. Halo with 8 - 12 people and 4 projectors! IT folks now how to game!

Yup, the XBox is what prompted me to upgrade my Denon receiver to a 3801 w/ Dolby Digital optical input years ago. Simply amazing to hear bullets whiz over your head and impact the wall behind you or hear someone sneaking up on you and be able to pinpoint where they are by the sound.
Now I need to save my pennies to upgrade my surround speaks (small Boston bookshelfs to JBL Studio series).

DVI(lots of pins about 1.5 in wide by 1/4 inch tall)

Both my set & my digital cable box have that type of hookup. Think im heading off to Radio shack in search of a cable.

Radio shack didnt have the DVI cable & in fact 2 of the guys there had never heard of it. Is it that new of a product?

Anyways I hit circuit city & best buy where they had the cable.......holy crap!!! $100 for a cable? I think im going to wait for the price to drop a bit. I dont care how good it makes the picture, I simply cant justify dropping that amount of for a single cable.

hmm why is $$ changed to the little dashes?

That would be the dollar symbols.

Thats odd, 2 $$ is ok but 3 becomes

I see three red dots, not dashes. If I were watching my TV, (an old- 27" Sanyo that I desperately want to replace) I'd hit it with the heel of my hand to fix it... But this is a laptop, and doesn't take kindly to being hit. Though it is tempting sometimes...

And the curse word for donkey is turned into three red dots too, I see.

A filter? But what's wrong with (three dollar signs)? Is it some sort of drug thing? I didn't know about 420 until about a year ago. Maybe I'm just not up on the drug scene. What a shame that is...

Something about pot. I didn't know until a year ago, when we moved into our first basecamp. There was a large clocktower there, and after we'd been on the basecamp for a couple of weeks and things started to calm down, someone climbed to the top of it and set it for 4:20. One of my roommates told me that it means something about drugs. He said there are stickers on cars sometimes that look like a interstate highway sign, but say 420 and it's some drug thing.

Having never touched anything harder than 151 rum, I have no clue about the whole drug thing. Which I am glad for...

The guy who was providing so much entertainment for a while, 420@145 has a few references to pot in his profile, too... Ask him, if you're prepared to be drawn into a long, frustrating "conversation".
