Your not alone.

Lost my job back in October (lay off) and have been unemployed ever since. I have about 4 weeks before it hits the fan here!

Its pretty tough here in the NW for employment. Way too many IT people unemployed which is bad for me. : ( Now having to apply for jobs that pay a 3rd of what I was making and then be told that I am over qualified. GO FIGURE!

Hang in there and best of luck!

JC

Hang in there man! - I got downsized a couple of weeks ago - not to worried yet, but I know how your feeling! Yuppers - its tough out there right now, but if you use all your resources - as I have in the past and now - new employment should'nt be too far away - at least so far that has proved true! Good luck!

Thunder I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck in your hunt for new employment. Around here Invista, Inc. the company I work for is being sold by Dupont to Koch Industries. We change hands on May 1st. Right now you can hear the ax swinging you just don't know where it will fall.

I was "downsized" last January. The good news is that it gave me time to have some surgery that I've been putting off, I no longer have to work at a job that turned sour, and I can collect unemployment compensation (which helps out a lot). Don't let it get to you, you'll probably find a new job that makes the old one look lame.

In the last 3 years I have gone through 2 of these, 7 months both times. It ain't easy finding good jobs, and I haven't finished yet. My current job is not suitable. It's alot more work to find a job than to have a job. Best of luck to you.

Hey Man.. Hang Tough..
I got 'Down Sized' when they closed an office at my old job. Took me months to find another gig.. and then I had to take a pay cut and start all over with a new organization. In the last two and a half years, I've managed to work my way back up(sort of but not quite to where I was). That's one of the reasons I've got so little time to attend all the neat Buell events I'd like too.. I don't want them saying I'm never there, I want them to think of me as a valued employee that is always available to do the job (read: slave to the whims of those that don't know my job, but want to tell me how to do it.)

You'll find something, just don't be 'picky' about what you apply for. You never know where you will find a new job and who knows, you may find something you enjoy more then your old gig!

Later,

Thunderbolt,

Keep the faith man. You ought to try selling yourself back to the company as a consultant then you can charge them triple the amount of money for half the work, and you NEVER have to actually solve a problem or produce ANYTHING!

The bad news it that Milwaukee is a dieing city. The jobs have moved out and years of bad government and local apathy have doomed the greater milwaukee area. Most of the jobs have moved south and I don't think that they are coming back with the current tax and sue climate coming out of Madison.

I'm watching the situation closely where I work as well. I'm lucky, my last position got cut but I was laterally transfered and I was able to keep my job. But the another round of cuts may be coming and I'm way down on the list of seniority.

I hope that you can make the best of your opporitunities and that this works out for the better. At the very least you'll have more time for riding. (Reaching deep for the bright side)

JT

Yep, the new Milwaukee mayor had some plans that were soon realized in his first day on the job may not be as easy to make happen as he had presumed.

If you need the names of a few temp agencies in the region let me know. Pretty standard knowledge but you never know if it's known or not. I'll stop in at Hal's in the morning if you want to touch base and talk general routes up to Appleton next month and discuss the general job market and local company situations.

I've been hit twice in the last three years, and not able to find good work anywhere. Nortel in 2001, and Sprint last year. So I went back to school to finish my law degree. Hope that works...
On a high note, it does seem to be picking up here, more ppl are getting called back. Hrmmm...

All the best in your search.
