The M2 tail section from CASUNO looks pretty interesting. I wish I had an extra 78,000 yen lying around.

If you follow the link to www.casuno.com and click on the word AELLA mid page it opens a page with the Buell S3 listed if you click on Buell S3 it brings up a parts page... If you scroll down it shows a Buell S3 shock by Quantum... Does anyone know anything about this shock???? Did a search for Quantum suspension and only came up with Japanese sites, appearantly they specialize in performance suspension.... Looks like a nice unit and I would like some more info...

Speaking of Buells and Japan...look what I found while wandering around the bar district late one night. I apologize for the crappy quality, but the only phone we had was a buddy's one megapixel cell phone.
We had just come out of the Ninikuya (literally 'garlic shop', and DAMN was that good) when I caught a flash of silver out of the corner of my eye. My friends thought I was nuts.

"A Buell! Holy shit...I forgot my camera...Karl! Karl, your phone's got a camera...pictures, man, pictures!"

Brian, if you have a chance to be in Japan for a while, could you let us know if Casuno is a company accepting to make business abroad or if there are no chances to get an international order processed with them ? Their tail section for Buell M2 looks pretty nice and I'd be interested to get one. I've sent emails but without success so far... It's not so easy to get in touch with Japanese people through english language.

Try using an online translator jerome such as...
http://world.altavista.com/

That site also has a line that lets you translate foreign webpages by putting in the url.

Thanks Mike, I didn't realize that Japanese/English translation was now available on Altavista. I'll give it a try. But if the result is as funny as it is when I play with it between french and english, the folks on the Island of rising sun may wonder if I was drunk when writing the message...

It'll probably end up far, far worse than french-english. Japanese word order and literal translations work extremely poorly.

I'll look into it. I'll be in Japan for roughly another 4 months this year. I'll try a little roomaji e-mailing and see if I get any response, and if not I'll ask one of the translators to send one along for me. Give me a couple weeks.

Jerome,

FYI, that's not a tail section for 78,000 yen. It's a seat. JUST a seat. The katakana says "orijinaru shinguru shiito" (original single seat) and below that (more katakana with a couple kanji thrown in just to keep ya honest) it says "gel coat, nonslip seat, height: -4cm"

Sorry to burst your bubble...that might be why you never got anything back...they may not have had a clue what you were talking about!

Oh, and S2Pengy, I'm afraid there's precious little on the Quantum that I can make out. Was there something specific about it you wanted to know?

166,950 yen = ~$1535 US at current exchange. That does NOT include shipping to the US.

If you really want one and they do not ship to the US or the cost is too great, let me know and maybe we can work something out to get it to you cheaper.

For future reference, it's pretty easy and not too far off the mark to think of a yen as a penny. If you do that you'll be pleasantly surprised at the conversion since the actual exchange is hovering at about 109 yen to the dollar.

In general, though, everything here is 10-40% more expensive.

Thanks a lot, Bryan. Yes, that's a bit disappointing... Still, it looks like the seat has more or less the same design as the stock post-98 M2 seat. Would you have a way of determining if they sell only the plastic tail section and if a standard seat would fit to it ? After having asked them something which is not the correct stuff listed in their web page, and after having tried the altavista translation tool from english to japanese, I'm afraid to be now on the black list... :-)

Jerome, I'll look into it. Again, though, gimme a little bit of time. I work over 60 hours a week, so this is pretty low on my 'off time hours' priority list.

No doubt, Bryan. I appreciate very much your help and I would certainly not criticize if you don't find time to get such information. I could only criticize myself not to have learnt japanese at high school...

I hope you find some hours to ride a motorcycle sometime, still... The roads in Japan don't look too bad, at least those that I could drive on during a short professional visit 3 years ago (between Tokyo and Sendai).

Another cool Japanese site : http://www.motorstage.co.jp/gallery/index-buell.html

The slimmer tail section on that M2 is pretty appealing as well.

Odd that an M2 that is THAT clean would still have the motor mount with the airbox support tab still hanging out. I think that is the best looking M2 I've seen, other than the M2-->S1 conversions out there.

Gee, I really dig on the rearsets for the S3 @ Casuno, but frankly, 800 is a little steep.
I'd really like a set, but before I spend that much, I'll buy an Aprilla

Jerome,

I got a reply from Casuno - haven't translated it yet. I'll pass it along Monday or Tuesday.

Now I'm off to climb Aki Kofuji (Little Mt. Fuji)!

Didn't see any Aussies, sorry. It was a good, tiring hike, which I needed since my g/f's still in the States and I have no other extracurricular activites to wear me out!

Jerome,

Got a reply from Casuno and finished translating it. I've still got a couple more questions for them, but the basics are this:

The kit DOES include the seat and tail section. It DOES NOT include the license plate bracket or lamps (but apparently the stock lamps will fit with it, both tail and turn signal).

As near as I can tell, the tail section comes clear coated white, so you'll have to sand/paint/coat it. Also, I doubt that the tail section will fit a standard seat, which means you're probably stuck with the seat that comes with it.

Casuno does not accept credit cards. However, they have a partner in SF (I'm assuming he means San francisco - one of the things I'm confirming) that does, whom you can order it from and they will ship the parts direct from Japan to you. He didn't tell me what shipping would be, but I expect it is a fair amount. Expect the whole kit to be roughly $800 (that includes shipping, but it's a guesstimate), not including the cost to get the tail painted.

Let me know if you're still interested in this, if not I'll stop asking.

Bryan, it is so nice to have you there, filling the linguistic gap for Buell lovers. I truly appreciate your help.

If the tail section includes the new seat, then the price sounds realistic. I'm ready to give a follow-up. Please let them know and I'll then get in touch with their partner in the USA, as soon as I have the address and so on.

Will do.

Don't thank me too much - my Japanese wasn't quite up to the task so I asked one of the translators at work to give me a hand.

She just kept laughing about 'boys and toys'. I refrained from making a comment about feminine toys.

See, I do have SOME tact.

Jerome - some more info to whet your whistle. The kit fits 99-02 M2s. I imagine it could also fit an S3 since I seem to recall those frames being the same.

I will try contacting Little Tokyo Motorcycle Shop for you to see if we can ease the process any. Their website ( www.ltms ) is all in Japanese. I will try contacting them in English, and if they respond in kind pass it off to you. If they will only respond in Japanese then it makes things a little more complicated. They are based in San Fransisco, so I'd say chances are high that there is at least one person in the shop to deal with that speaks English.

Now, on to the cool stuff! They were kind enough to send me pictures of the kit this time, so here they are...

Tail Section, unpainted and installed
This is the tail section, unpainted and installed, with the seat fitted.

Undertray Mounting
This is the mounting of the undertray to the frame.

Lamp Bracket
And finally, this is the little bracket that all the lights and plate affix to.

All the plastic pieces are FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic).

Still want one?
