Over the weekend I installed the entire factory race kit, and a powercommander II.

Myself and a friend (who is a certified buell tech) put everything on at his home shop. We had talked about the TPS reset and he could not do it since he does not have a scanalizer. After we hooked everything up, I plugged the PCII into my laptop and bam!, we could see the Throttle Position! We set the TP at 2 (Adjusting at the butterfly valve). Does this mean the ECM also see's it at 2? or do I need to reset the ECM to think its at zero when its at 2?

The reason he set it 2% above zero is because the bike is more responsive. It somthing he has done at the dealership to improve the performance.

The powercommand is awesome. I only had 1 problem. I could not find my exact setup. I found a setup that had Race kit ECM, Header, And pipe, butttttt Stock airbox. I could not find a setup with the gutted airbox and KN filter plus all the race kit stuff.

I used that config, and when riding the bike the idle speed wouldnt drop at stop lights. It floated just under 2k rpm. So I made it a little richer around that range and Throttle Postion.

Does anyone have a good setup that used gutted airbox and the rest of the facoty race kit?

You need to have a Buell tech calibrate your new ECM for your TPS zero position. I have a hard time understanding why you need a power commander if all you are running is the factory race kit. Suggest removing it and having your TPS rezero/reset performed.

Setting the throttle position and seeing it reported via the PC-II has little to nothing to do with the TPS zeroing operation. What the rezero operation actually does is upload to the ECM the TPS output voltage associated with a fully closed (idle screw completely backed out) throttle.

Bottom line, you need to have the TPS reset procedure completed by your dealer.

You'll have a hard time finding a PCIII map for the full Buell race kit, as the race ECM is designed specifically for that mix of parts. You don't need the PCIII (nor will it do any good) unless you change cams/do serious head work/run an open pipe.

Oh yeah, what Blake said. TPS reset is crucial.

Reset the TPS and put in on a dyno for custom mapping...no more dips or spikes, much smoother!

My Duc has FI with a TPS; the supplied mapping with the PCII and TPS reset was good...much better with a dyno tuned/built map.

The air box controversy...the re-mapped/flashed ECM controversy...the PCII/III controversy---all start and end with the TPS; It has to be reset!!

The sad part is that Buell has locked up the hardware/software to get the job done.

IF your Buell tech friend can get the bike to the shop for the reset, get it to the dyno and tweak it up. You'll really enjoy the results. Your bike will run very smoothly bottom to top without any noticeable flat spots. It's worth the price.

As a caveat, you may find that your bike, with a corrected TPS and custom mapped PC, runs better with the K&N air filter in a stock box...torque?

I couldn't see a good reason to gut the factory air box, so I left it alone and just put the K&N in the factory spot. Again, reset that TPS. My bike ran better than stock the moment I got the race kit installed in my garage. But it was night and day different (better) after taking it in to reset the TPS.

My .02 -

The TPS setting in the PC was to let the PC know where zero throttle is - it has nothing to do with setting the ECM (stock or race) with a correct TPS zero.

In short -
The scanalizer resets the zero position for the ECM (Only). Once that is done, you should reset the TP on the PC to zero.

Don't forget, you can always load a "zero map" into the PC, which will effectively remove it from the bike, if you want to see the difference it makes.
