An interesting thing about Dylan is that he was sort of hijacked as the "voice of his generation" by the anti-war, left-wing, hippies. Dylan himself has said that that was crap. He never considered himself a 60's era Woody Guthrie but people forced that label on him. I like Dylan and Hank Williams, Sr too. You can't listen to Williams' "I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry" and not really feel that emotion. |

Well, maybe he couldn't sing, but he was a true poet. Read the lyrics to "my Back Pages" once, or better yet, "Chimes of Freedom". |

I love Dylan (I also like Guthrie Jr.) Buck Owens is great. Pure rock & roll? Bob Seger rules. Tony Rice is the flatpickingest fool on the planet (when sober.) Jerry Douglas is the country boy's Hendrix (stole that one from Bubba.) The Flecktones will give you goosebumps their so good. Vassar Clements absolutely rules (willing to argue with the Allison Kraus fans too) the bowed instruments.

How can you have a discusion like this without even mentioning Lynyrd Skynyrd??? Tuesday's Gone... Simple Kinda Man... That Smell... Not only is it great Rock, it's just great music! The talent of all those guitars just make me want to hop on my bike and ride all day. It is a staple in my garage when working on my toys. |

>>>>Gomez's 'Liquid Skin' CD. Uh...that would have been me. Colin was flying in the next night for the Gomez concert. Today will be more fun...I'm going to, on my 2 hour commute, listen to "Flannel Friday", a new CD by Colin Canfield. I don't find Dylan as accesible as say a John Pizzagalli but there are certain groups (Blood on the Tracks) of his stuff that changed music and lives. Music moves each soul in a different direction in a different way; to each their own. Court (wearing a LIVESTOCK shirt to work today...anyone remember what that was in the history of music?) |

Why is it harder to catch up than it is to get behind? Why is nothing worth while easy? Why didn't the guy that invented work stick around and finish it?

best rocknroll show I've ever seen (out of hundreds) was Springsteen and E Street . . .. a corss between early rock and roll and a revivalist tent meeting . . . .walked outa the joint CONVINCED that rock and roll could save me! Slade? pretty good, IMO, but I still say the most underrated British musical export was Rockpile . . . . only one album, sigh |

Rockpile! Wow, it's been a while - Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe, and Billy Bremner was it? I really thought pub rock was gonna be the next big thing. Boy was I wrong. |

Uh.. Diamond Head anyone? If we're going with under rated Brit Rock... Hey! Has anyone here realized that we have yet to mention the 'mother ships' version of a great rocker? (at least to close a REALLY BIG party in a really grand manner)..Elton John? (granted he's a great song writer and piano player) But he's no Freddie Mercury .. Which of course brings up Queen, another great band from that side of the pond (Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Led Zep, God the list goes on...) ..Then we head down under.. Oh yeah, lotsa great rock and roll out there.. don't you think? Later, |
