A friend of mine wasnt taught the civil war in jr high or high school because it was considered offensive and too charged of a topic ....!?
Her only knowledge of it was that it was all about slavery
It was public education, so who does she get a refund from for NOT learning a critical portion of American history?

Death (the noun) is a tragedy, a million of them (together) is just a statistic.
technically, a million of them is where it starts to count. (lit: gets to the point)

For the flippin life of me, I cant find the original source text for the quote outside of the internet hyperbole, supposedly he said it at Potsdam treaty. It looks more like he was Misquoted
and at several instances. |

Bottom line: Russia lost an unimaginable number of civilians and soldiers in the war... and yeah, Stalin's detailed "planning" may have been responsible for most (starvation, disease, cold) - but how can people not know that Russia was a participant in WWII - ALSO on both sides (a German ally until being INVADED) |

To further follow up on the Stalin points, in "Long way Around" Ewan and Charlie rode the "road of bones" where millions are supposed to be buried in the roadway. The memorial at the end, cannot remember the name of the town, mag-something or other, was quite an interesting piece of artwork, and very Russian looking, identifiable as Eastern European in origin. Very cool. Many are misquoted for sure, Stalin wouldn't be the first.....nice thread jack ya'll, it took an interesting turn.... |
