BY A Crop Duster!!

Here I am riding back home from the shop and I hear this terrible racket and looked over and here comes this Air Tractor hell bent for leather at about 15'! Scared the poo right out of me. He was dusting the fields on both sides of the road and was lined up to cross the road every pass he made.

I talked to his ground spotter to find out what I just got zapped with. He saw me and called pilot and told him NOT to dump on that pass. They were dropping some stuff that only kills one type on bug he said and even if I was sprayed it wouldn't hurt me. I got home and showered anyway. Washed the bike too!

He also said that there was 20-30 between me and the plane. All I know is I could count the rivits on that sucker!

and I use to like airplanes!

We stood in the driveway at my mother's farm once watching a crop duster working a field across the road. As we were watching he made a pass heading directly toward us. He went under the power lines, came over the top of us, cleared the roof of the house by eight to ten feet and cleared an oak tree in the back yard by about three feet. Those guys are crazy!

I was watching a crop duster a couple days ago and he was "Willey Nilley" all over different fields. Hit this one and jump over and hit that one..........yep, and went under the power lines at the end rows.......no ground spotter. Must be GPS flight paths he was following. The other night at 11:00 PM,a plane was making multiple passes over town. WTF? New thing here, spraying for mosquitoes at night and is cheaper than having the truck mounted rig come thru...........

Part of the honey bee collapse problem is the spraying for mosquitoes. The bee keepers have been trying to get farmers to spray at night when the bees are in the hive. Farmers seem to think the bees are useful so they may be starting to try this with their farm spraying.

Maybe they will do the same for the mosquitoes as they are largely out at night anyway.

My grandfather was a cropduster among many other things. Back in the mid 60s he thought a helocopter might work better. He went to see about his helo licence and the FFA grounded him.Said he was to old to fly. He was 85 years old!

25 or 26 years ago we had a local crop duster named "Chance" Davis and he flew a Grumman 600 bright yellow crop duster. My two two daughters (4 and 2 at the time) and I were out in our field and they heard the crop duster coming. I said that if you wave at him maybe he will wave back. The girls started running and waving and the crop duster started doing 45 degree rolls left-right left-right left-right. The girls were excited that he saw them; but then he pulled up and did a 180 degree turn and on his second pass kicked the tail left-right in a wig wag 6 or 7 times. Then another pullup 180. For his last pass he rolled the plane 45 degrees over and held it there with the nose up and the tail down also at about 45 and he was now waving from the cockpit back at the girls.

He made our day and thrilled my daughters with their own little air show.
