You could be right, Methed. Wasn't the CR released on the Monday or Tuesday of the dealer show last year?

Overall, I like the new look of the website, the logo etc. Doesn't seem to be any new logo's on the bikes though?

I liked the Blast ad, defended it's humour... I have always been drawn to Buell's by there uncompromising, "ruthless" engineering... I like being different, I like a bike that's different...
But I don't hang off the seat all the time, I do wave to other riders of pretty much any bike, and I have made a whole heap of friends through Buell... Hmm, am I taking it too seriously now?

Oh, they got the wrong guy for the Uly photo's, he's "sitting"...
And they just put me off putting a new Buell sticker on my car.

I like fishing, I was just catching some 12 inch Crappies, incredible fishing, I don't have a way of posting up pictures up here at the lake, but Monday I will...

What a great beginning to a marketing campaign. I will be very disappointed if that is all there is, but the Blast now has a place holder which hasen't been there for a few years.

I'm thinking there will be something new.

Hehehe : ) Yeah, the "friends" bit just pushed the wrong button for me. I guess whoever wrote that never went to Homecoming or anything like that.

Almost 2.30am here, I'm going to bed. G'night non-friends!

I thought Buell said the aftermarket right-side air scoop was worthless?

The left-side scoop has been redesigned, too

OMG, all the XB's have the new scoop

They have part numbers for the right side scoop kits in the catalog already. Along with a chart on what part to buy to add it to your bike. Looks like I'll be talking to my dealer soon enough.

I still expect a bombshell with a new model Blast to be released.

With minor changes in the line (new colors and bold new graphics, plus....), I don't expect the smack in the mouth of the original ad to be met with no follow up announcement.

Hmmm, that's odd - when you go to the new buell.com and go to the owner's section and look up the 2009 owners manuals, the Blast is spec'd as a 2008 model. Have they not actually produced any since '08 or is it just a typo? If they haven't produced new ones since '08, what have they been doing in the Blast part of the factory for the last year?!?
Probably just a typo.

As the man said - my work here is done.
I guess I'll take that as my cue at bowing out - the 9 is the new entry level Buell, and the Blast is trash.

Good news...one of my club buddies with an 1125 has agreed to tow me along on the next club ride...I'm headed out to the supply house to get some big swivel casters to mount under my "coffee table" and big rope to tow it with.

Meanwhile I am practicing a menacing "no friends" scowl so I can follow the new Buell company policy.

Note: the above post is partly tongue in cheek, partly a poor attempt at dry humor, with a certain amount of pizzed off.

Obviously he was wrong about the Blast, this thread proves that, and if he can be that wrong about this, how would I trust anything else of his.

So if you go to the blast page on the new website and go to features, it is pretty funny. Tight suspension, someone owes me a keyboard.

I guess a model could just quietly be phased out, but that is what big companies do. Small companies have a little fun and show their sense of humor. Even better if you can get some press out of it.

Watching the ruthless engineering video on the blast page where Erik Buell talks about the Blast and the focus of Buell makes me think that a replacement is not forthcoming. What do I know though, just my opinion.

IF there is a new "entry level" bike in the line up to be announced, will existing Blasts fans accept it?

If it's fantastic, will it be rejected simply because of the way it was announced?

If there had been a quiet announcement of the new model and the changes announced in the line-up, would there be hue and cry of nothing special and "bold new graphics"?

Like the new ad direction or not, it's demanding attention.

I think there may be at least a few owners of GSXRs who are a little tired of the group think.

Damn...just as I was getting a really good "japanese war mask scowl" going on...
UsTorque busts me up...

FB...IF this is all a case of bad judgement shank-yankin' by Buell....AND they DO have a "fantastic" bike coming...I will still buy it if it has the attributes I demand (my new "policy" will be "Ruthless Selection")...and suffer the personal indignity of realizing I let my chain be yanked...and perhaps enjoy a chuckle over the whole deal.

Right now I feel like the guy who thought it was raining, discovered the rain was salty.

Look up the production records...there have been more Blasts built than any other model Buell.

This reminds me of the 1978 mustang 2 I got when I was 16 or 17. It was the mid 1990's and this car was beautiful and well kept. Bright orange paint and white interior.

I was all excited about this car cause it looked nice and fast to me. The test drive left alot to be desired but I knew you could make things better with more money.

The thing was though it was nothing like mid 80's mustangs and later nor was it like the 60's to early 70's mustangs no matter how much I wanted to live out that fantasy.

It did not fit the mold.

All together - in fact. It was their bread and butter, in sales, even with a low profit margin. I always thought Erik was about riding, win a few races, and that changed fast - how sad. Nothing new.

Just cause Buell has discontinued the Blast doesn't mean that it's not a good bike. Some of you guys seem really butt hurt that Buell has walked in a different direction.

Erik Buell has always appreciated "utility motorcycles".

Can you guess which bike in this "top ten" list he has said (more than once) is one of his all time favorite designs?

I would say that the production numbers are HEAVILY tempered by the demand driven by the RE programs.

The margin at full MSRP is less than $1,000 (less than $500 all said and done).

I doubt that the Blast was the "cash cow" for Buell that many thought it to be.

Don't get me wrong' I think this is going to be a great change and hope to see something to take it's place. But in the meantime the Bonneville Blast is out for "Bold New Paint" before it heads for Bub's and a few more records. Now I am thinking of keeping this thing forever and each year make the changes to run it in a new class. 75-80 RWHP @ 138 mph on gas, just think what it will do on NOS. Terry - www.jtsperformance.com

BTW this is the same bike I rode from the SF Bay Area to Laconia NH in 2002. I still have the original tank cover signed by Erik and the team on my way through E Troy.

Talk about throwing your bread and butter out with the bath water - Their are more Blasts than all the rest of the Buells together, surely this is some kind of duping campaign, still leaves a bad taste in my mouth though, and does he really think that the Faithful Blastards who got maligned would wait a year, for a replacement - I don't think so. So if this is taken seriously, Erik Buell would be kicking to the curb 1/4 of of his potential market, would any business man in his right mind do that? I will be shocked if there is not a replacement, at the same time, if there isn't, I'll really have to reconsider the next brand I purchase. I really don't like the Ruthless Engineering tone - some how the rider gets lost in that interpretation. I didn't buy Buell on its ability to win, but on the ability of having reliable, easy to maintain fun riding the twisties and back roads, and do commuting chores. To do all that on a limited budget as well. I feel I selected well. The Blast will always be a bike that lived up to its name.
